Bridgeport Shooting

  • A Chicago police officer shot a man armed with a large meat cleaver Tuesday morning, while responding to a domestic disturbance in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

Shortly before noon, Deering District officers responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance involving a man armed with a knife at a home near 28th and Throop, Deputy Chief Kevin Ryan said.

When police arrived, the woman who had called 911 helped the officers get inside the home, and told them where she thought the man was. When the officers went to the second floor, they found a man armed with a cleaver in one of the bedrooms, and he appeared to be cutting himself, Ryan said.

The officers told the man several times to drop the knife, and when he didn’t, the officers used Tasers in an effort to prevent him from harming himself any further, according to Ryan. The Tasers appeared to have minimal effect, and when the man came out of the room, one of the officers shot him in the leg.
We can't remember - is a meat cleaver a "deadly weapon" under the COPA Use of Force?

In any event, the officers went home safe, which is all that matters in the end. Good job.

Meh... the poleece should not had went to the call... or if they had arrived a few minutes later the man would not been conscious from bleeding out. This call was not even serious cause he has mental problems and can't find a job.

I believe that is what COPA is going to say. In the mean time strip the cops to their bare asses...

Yet again another failed taser deployment. These new tasers have less than a 50% success rate of incapacitating a bad guy , they’re complete garbage compared to the original X26. A lot has to do with the cartridges. Just know if you choose to deploy one you have less than a 50% chance it will actually work properly

Ha! None of this scenario matters to the bosses, COPA and the rest except did you turn your body cam on in a timely fashion? Did you tell everyone they were being recorded? We're you carrying a taser? Did you de-escalate? and on and on...

From all indications a perfectly justified use of force.

May be it has something to do with drug influence, not taser failure.
I got hit by one of those during the training and it hurt like hell, the longest 5 second of my life. Have you ever tried it?

So all the people yelling that when jvd shot the thug high on drugs laquan, if the taser was there and it had zero affect on the thug and thug still had the knife (a deadly weapon) he could of killed a police officer! Or if he would of "just walked away" the thug would of killed some innocent in that area! This just proves the tasers we have are obviously junk, or is it that a high on drugs pos would not be affected by the mild shock? hmm interesting study, we all know our equipment is not maintained, from vehicles that constantly break down, to buildings that are cancer clusters,to newer buildings that are built so shoddy that they literally start to fall down as the hvac equipment rapidly fails?

Maybe (I gunna run 4 mayor) lightfoot is right! Why waste 95 million on a place that will be falling down, the peoples/folks don't want it, lets try building something up to code, and how about that huge empty parcel 44th and Cicero where the leclaire projects used to be? that would be perfect, easy access to expressways, airports and the revitalization is needed and people there respect the police unlike the areas lori lightfoot adamantly describes that dont like police! Don't be concerned the aldermen can still get the payoffs from the construction companies the "Chicago way" back door cash filled manila envelopes, if you build it here the people and businesses will come!

To the guy bashing the Taser. I was an instructor for 11 years. I used mine successfully many times over those years and had good results most of the time. Why? Because I used it properly and had good hits, leading to good incapacitation. The Taser isn't perfect but I got tired of listening to guys I trained whining about it not working. Then later learning they either missed with a probe or took a shot at a guy running from 20 feet away. Not having been on the scene of the event in the post neither of us can say why the Taser failed but don't try to blanket-blame it.

Elgin police chief addresses protesters after fatal shooting of woman

https://www.google.com/amp/wgntv.com/2018/03/13/elgin-police-chief-addresses-protesters-after-fatal-shooting-of-woman/amp/

Let’s see what a real leader says
Excerpts :

The police chief addressed the protesters.

“The idea that some people have that I will never be able to change is that if you come at me with a knife, that I need to wrestle it away from you or I need to let you stab me in the chest because I wear a bullet proof vest. That’s not how the real world works. You come at a police officer with a knife, you’re probably getting shot," the chief said.

Now that’s a real leader Eddie you and laughable command staff take a lesson, think about this if you would of manned up with the McDonald lie the city would of saved millions your mayor would not be caught in bullshit the coppers would be respectful of you now look at yourself and your so called staff! Maniacs of Sanctuary are out of control as Rahm sleeps.
Hope this fares well for the members.

The COPRAH rewrote not only the GO but also the ILCS interpretations.
Switchblade, dagger, stiletto, dirk possession and use are a stretch nowadays.
Heck, they don’t even think firearms are probable cause for DF.
It also highly depends on whom possesses such weapons and what resulted during the police interaction.
Just axe Elgin - a feral Cook County jurisdiction.

The COPRAh Guide Book:

Various forms of household cutlery on the face, are non-violent implements, including the Handy Housewife Helper® (Can it core a apple?).
These task oriented tools are intended by design, to be used by and inside the household of the possessor.

If this cleaver was intended to cut, chop or dice and the object of contact with the blade was that of muscular tissue, then it’s s’all good for the cleaverteer to freely whack and defend his domain.
The scope of The COPRAh is wide and arcane.

Case Closed, take your 30 & Pending.

3/14 1152am Your "real leader" logic is flawed. The chief of Elgin is saying what he is politically allowed to say. Considering Elgin is smaller population wise then some of the busy districts you are comparing apples to oranges. If the chief of Elgin was the superintendent here he'd be keeping those thoughts in his journal, on the blog or to his family and friends. It has nothing to do with cowardice. It's called paying your bills. And if they're asking for more than you can handle out of the job it would be behoove you to consider other options than taking it. You'll see his "real leadership" as you define it when his opinion is at odds with the mayor and board, not when what he says doesn't upset them.

He took the honest route and averted many problems for the coppers under his command and the town, plus the taxpayers are happy no pandering, and no payouts! Could you imagine what it would be like working for a man such as this, knowing he has your back and will stand up? the crime rate would drop, the coppers would be proud to work in that town unlike what happens here! Unless in chiraq we get a complete house cleaning from city hall, to 5th floor on Michigan ave, we will stay in fetal mode and protect each other! Blue lights on for Blue shirts otherwise we will obey the traffic laws and write the paper!! Oh and advise warrant!

If the offender was determined or the PO missed the leg, it would be a different story we would be reading. Do not let these thug hugging liberals make you second guess yourselves at such a critical time. Remember, I can kill you with a knife before you can get your gun out of your holster at 21 feet. Use distance, time, and obstructions to keep separated but ultimately if they are running at you, your best chance for survival is getting as many rounds on target until the threat is over. How many of you practice drawing from the holster and firing live rounds at a target moving at you? How many of you practice with your firearm at all? The department certainly will not give you the training that this department desperately needs, they will just blame you when things go wrong. They will happily bury you before they spend money to train you.

And, thusly, the commonly feared reality is succinctly stated.

Paul Newman in "Hombre":

"We all die, it's just a question of when."

Saw this when 14, always remembered what it meant.

Led to many questions, the most valuable one, of many, was:

Okay.....so what will I choose to do until that when is now?

Ponder.
