Is the Machine Wounded?

  • A set of polls released Friday showed Democratic primary challenger Fritz Kaegi with a sizable lead in his bid to unseat Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios — but the embattled incumbent’s campaign says Berrios is not sweating over the numbers.

Two of the polls — one commissioned by a progressive group backing Kaegi, the other by an independent pollster — gave the challenger double-digit percentage-point leads in a potential head-to-head matchup with Berrios among likely Democratic voters in the March 20 primary.
  • Already facing a tougher-than-expected re-election bid, Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios had a bad week.

The biggest blow came when an independent report found that Berrios has failed in determining the value of homes for property tax purposes, punishing poor homeowners while providing tax breaks to wealthy ones. The study backed up findings from the Chicago Tribune’s investigation “The Tax Divide,” which exposed widespread errors and inequities in residential assessments under Berrios from 2011 through 2015.
The Tribune really needs to tie Berrios to the Burke and Madigan law firms that constantly get property tax "breaks" for the big and connected that cost the city hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of dollars and costs every other extra in order to make up the difference. After all, who notices that you pay an extra $0.19 cents on your property tax bill when Vienna gets a half-a-million dollar break?

But all those breaks add up over time, and Berrios is steering the ship.

I'd rather pay the freight than vote for the extremely progressive millionaire Kaegi. I do not want any part of starting his political career. I'll take the devil I know rather than enhance the liberal curse hanging over us. Nix Fritz!

Its high time everyone pulls together and WORKS to vote them all out. We are being robbed in taxes. Felons running wild. It has to stop. Time for action.

Wake up.
Best thing to do is vote out Berrios. If the next guy doesn't step up - just vote him out in the next election.

When are you going to learn? Just vote the incumbent out - why do you keep voting in the same people and expect different results?

Do something radical for a change!

Joe "Blind Eye" Berrios, the Reverse Robbing Hood,
the legal system awaits you with open arms.
Joe, through his contacts in Weights & Measures,
recently did dry runs to see how much gold he could
smuggle. It's a complex calculation involving surface
tension to avoid a G.I. tract rupture and rectal muscle
strengthening and control to maximize "back pack" load.
As truckers can attest, tie down is critical.

No matter how far Berrios is behind in the polls, the only poll that matters are the votes "counted" on election day

It’s not “the Machine” that’s falling apart, it’s just Berrios. Watch for his supporters to start jumping ship. His problem is that he became so arrogant that he thought he could get away with anything.

Berrios has nothing to worry about, voter fraud is a time honored Chicago tradition.

It's about time, dump the hacks, Madigan, Cullerton and Burke all eating at the public trough while dining at the Ritz making tax decisions.

what really needs to be done is to change the state's eavesdropping laws so private citizens can wear hidden recorders. I can only imagine what would be heard when these pols talk. If Burke or Madigan wants some advantage in property tax relief they surely are talking to someone.

The machine will just steal the election. No different than the usual elections. Why should he sweat it?

Bigger news is that the city-issued identification card, despite its lack of confirmation of either address or legal residency-status will be used as "voter ID" for voter registration, a quick get-around towards registering non-citizens as Chicago voter-eligible constituents nonetheless. So there'll be a significant influx of otherwise-undocumented hispanic and asian "voters" eligible to skew vote in whatever direction Democratic Machine wants. Big win for Berrios.

Is that the Berrios the FOP PAC is endorsing?
May as well endorse (vote) for PrickWanker and Rahm.

Vote them all out.

Even (especially) the Cook County judges. Knuckly head Evans first.

Tho there may be a few to keep (Chiampas), the rest need to go.

Prickwrinkle needs to go.

Dart needs to go

Foxx needs to go.

Speaking of Crook County Judges, did anyone notice that Judge Jessica Arong-O’Brien was found guilty of mortgage fraud? Touted as a rising judicial star in the Cook County courtrooms, the democrat party was quick to point out she was the first female Filipino judge in Cook County. She pocketed a cool $325, 000.00 with rule 14 type misstatements of financial facts and disclosures. Only 325K in fraudulent endeavors made her a junior democrat-partnered apprentice in training. One wonders if she had completed annual ethics training on e-learning for government employees.

Her resume includes working for the Illinois Department of Revenue as an Assistant Attorney General, Chief Counsel to the Illinois Lottery which was designed to fund the inner city schools and a Cook County judge. She also served as the President of the Women’s Bar Association, served on the Board of Governors for the Illinois State Bar Association and even served on John Marshall’s Board of Directors.

A rising star now fallen star. Ouch! Add titles as bank fraudster, convicted felon, silver shovel nominee, mortgage scammer and mail fraudster to her diverse background of government service. Her partner in crime had already plead guilty to mortgage fraud in a federal courtroom and was cooperating with the judge's prosecution..

Another independent poll as of about two weeks ago has Garry McCarthy within 4 points of Rahm. Vallas barely registers on it. I would bet that a new poll today would put McCarthy ahead. Rahm has a recent poll, showing him at 30% popularity. He is done.

Watched Fritz Kaegl and Berrios on Channel 7 Sunday morning. My vote for Fritz Kaegl. Berrios stated they have been trying to fix the system since 2014. It is 2018 still not fixed. Takes over 4 years and still not fixed. WTF!

Yes ... just go vote for Kaegi now ... he’s the right guy to get things working the way they should!
