Shooting

Cops fired to save a woman, possibly being stabbed curing a domestic:
  • Chicago police officers shot and injured a man who was attacking a woman early Saturday on the South Side, according to police officials.

The shooting happened around 5:40 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Ada Street in the Gresham neighborhood, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony [Google-me].

[Google-me] said officers shot the man after they were called to a home for a domestic disturbance and arrived to find the man attacking the woman.

The man and woman were rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, but they have been stabilized.
Good job Officers.

This was an unnecessary shooting and the vast majority of cops understand that. Now there's a small percentage who will try to justify it, but most of us know better than that.

I don't blame Dan Herbert for doing everything he can to get his client off because that's what defense lawyers are supposed to do.

The department does a horrid job at providing mental health care for an agency where virtually everyone has seen or directly experienced some horrible stuff.

Rahmbo and a good hunk of the then exempt members and current exempt members directly or indirectly participated in the coverup. How did that work out? Let's see near riots on Michigan Avenue, Cops being punched/shoved and directed NOT to make arrests, homicide number jumped by hundreds and Rahm's popularity rating is lower than death valley.

We have Brooklyn Garry who actively participated in the coverup and is still butthurt he got fired talking about running for mayor and he may be the one candidate Rahm can outpoll in the black community. This is a shitshow of epic proportion and it comes down to an avoidable shooting and a coverup. Bad shootings can be reduced, but not eliminated and covering them up inevitably leads to worse things happening.

If Rahm reads the comments here thanks MOFO. Instead of just releasing the tape and taking the short term criticism you had to play sneaky rat and hundreds are dead because of it and cops are demoralized.

This sounds more like the Chicago I know. Not some fantastic Tourist "hotspot".

Have been away from reading SCC for awhile and saw on TV News that Chicago's tourism numbers are fantastic. I could not believe what I was hearing.

Just came here and read the earlier thread, "Define Tourist" and after reading it and its comments, felt a lot better as to reality and the truth. Just another "hyped" number and some of the comments are dead on.

Counting people who fly in and out of O'Hare and Midway passing through are NOT tourists. And, as another comment pointed out, if all these people did come here AND spent money, Chicago would not be in the financial crisis it is in.

Keep up the good work.

The offender had a knife. What happens if taser was used and he fell on his own knife and the knife then went through the offenders victim like a shish kabob?? Tasering is only used in times that you can’t tase or if offender is armed with a knife and wasn’t standing at a 90 -180 degree angle that is deemed necessary by directions listed on back of a COPA protractor. Isnt this listed on the special order to the special order of the department directive? I believe its verbatim as listed.

As we use to say in a land far away from the Second City, you are either a hero or a zero. Why didn't these cops try to deescalate this situation by backing a way, using a calm voice and let time work on this fellow.

The Mrs. may have been stabbed in the process, but that's the price you may have to pay to live a city ruled by mobs.

Shoot to save your own life or the life of another officer. Other than that pretend you are a London Bobby without a gun. Call for SWAT (or whatever you people call them) and stand back.

To my knowledge no one can be sued for not firing., but everyone who does fire does get sued.

Maybe they don’t want you to use a taser anymore. Look at the limitations they put on you. Especially the one that says there is a possibility that the offender could fall and hit his head. That is every time

1/21/2018 11:08:00 AM

"Maybe a taser would have been a better choice"

Can't use taser anymore.
100% of the time offender falls down.
When they fall down they hit their head on something
sidewalk, street, post, firepug, car fender, table, floor, etc.
When they hit their head they claim injury/disability.
You have to foresee all the dangers before you zap.
Now it's all on you, you didn't follow the order.
Suspension, fired, lawsuit damages, maybe prison.

I don't know the facts of this case to offer alternate solutions,
but I will not use the thug zapper anymore.

The way Rahmfather, Special Ed and that cop hating agency COPA are at it, when I read "Cop fired to save woman being stabbed" I originally thought the cop was fired! That's how bad it's gotten. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets 30 days pending anyway. There seems to be no justification to fire your weapon at all these days.

In order to not have a non sustained beef, suspension or firing, a taser can only be used when the offender is unarmed and standing on a 6 foot deep bed of marshmallows to cushion his fall.

COPA got the idea from SMORES.

I too worked area 4 Task Force about the same time period, and I unlike your dad, have discouraged my sons and daughters from becoming Chicago Police Officers. Policing is no where near what the job was, and putting my kids in harms way from not only the bad, but the liberals that have taken over the government, media, States Attorney's Office, would be irresponsible on many levels. I look at the coopers on this sight telling it like it is. It's not whining, their warning all of us what is really happening. Just my take, but tell someone to STFU is telling.

Officer - First, thank you for your service. From a a member of the public, concerned about all of the good officers, their families and their futures, thank you very much.
Next - I'll disagree with you a bit about the STFU comment. There's plenty to be concerned about. There's much amiss with the department, its management and also about officer safety. People do need to speak up.
However - if your intent was to poke a stick at the minority contingent who post here, whose M.O. is 'Cops should be immune from criticism, because they're cops...and F.U. to everybody else...", well I support you in that. Cretins are no friends of cops anywhere. Ever. No matter if they wear the uniform or not.
So, I expect you'll get plenty of FUs. Mainly from cretins.
Hope that it's not too discouraging.
Best to you and your family.
