Taxpayers Fleeing

  • The Land of Lincoln is experiencing heavy losses of people and income to other states, new IRS data reveal. Illinois lost more than 86,000 people and $4.75 billion in adjusted gross income to other states from 2015-2016.

Illinois’ problem with wealth flight isn’t just persisting, it’s getting worse. That’s the takeaway from new data released by the Internal Revenue Service on Nov. 30. In terms of both people and income, the Land of Lincoln saw a record-breaking exodus in the 2015 tax year (2015-2016).

Illinois saw a net loss of nearly 42,000 tax returns to other states on the year, representing a net loss of more than 86,100 people (measured in exemptions), according to the IRS. That’s an all-time high.
Those are actual taxpayers (as opposed to tax takers) leaving. And guess which taxpayers?
  • It’s not retired snowbirds who are driving the flight from Illinois. Analysis of IRS data for previous years shows how millennials are in fact leading the Illinois exodus. Further, the most recent IRS data show Illinois lost income and people on net to every neighboring state.
Millennials are where new taxpayers spawn from, meaning Illinois is losing future taxpayers as well as current ones, also known as a "death spiral."

My parents are from Wisconsin and Chicago. They had 3 children, the 3 of us live in Chicago or at least Cook County. We, the 3 children had 5 children, 1 is here. 1 to Florida, 1 to Texas and 2 to California? I guess they like nice weather with their crazy. Way to go Illinois! Just keep them taxpayers fleeing this place. They act like we're rich like California and have nice weather or something. When I was growing up, people didn't speak of leaving here, now, that's all you hear. We had a booming manufacturing base, lots of decent jobs and even democrats didn't tolerate CRIME by saying stop incarcerating bad people.

What makes this situation even worse is that there is an influx of non-productive people at the same time.

Now that Illinois has been designated a Sanctuary State, many of these newcomers are not even citizens. All manner of
social programs are available with little or no vetting and even less investigation to remove even the most blatant cases of
outright fraud.

So we have productive, tax paying folks fleeing in record numbers while the politicians welcome ever increasing numbers
of societal parasites who will do nothing but increase the costs of social programs and the taxes needed to support these
programs. But the newcomers will reliably vote for the continuation of their meal ticket, even those who don't have the legal
right to vote.

Illinois is definitely screwed.

Unfortunately there are a lot of fools in this job who keep thinking they’ll have a pension because the state constitution says so. With that said, IL is on the road to insolvency with $200+B in underfunded pension liabilities and $15B in unpaid bills. Chicago’s financial condition isn’t any better and any funds in the chicago pension system will run dry sooner or later, maybe 10 years. With that said, Chicago will not be able to rely on the state to solve its crisis. and the property tax hike won’t be enough to keep up with pension liabilities. So hopefully you’re all maxing out on deferred comp or investing some other way because regardless of what the state constitution says, you can’t get paid if there’s no money. Hell, you guys won’t even be able to recover your contributions to the pension. Now with taxpayers leaving, the problem is exacerbated.

Good article that came out earlier this year, may have been even been posted here:

When you have crud on top of crud not producing, general after generation, you have what Europe and Scandavavia are going through now. A drain!

It's about things learned in the past 8 years or so: white privilege and the redistribution of wealth. We are all so rich!

Fact is, there are haves and have-nots. I'm as white as Trump. I can't go and talk to him. Jessie is as black as the guy on Roosevelt. Won't talk to him. Lower class black.....unless there is a camera!

Social Security is paid to idiots who won't work, benefits to mothers with 10 different fathers. America says we had enough and the left brands you as haters, racists, etc.

On top, you can't watch the news, late-night TV is all leftist-political, etc.

Sorry for off-topic comments a bit.
Like the old movie line: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" That was 3 generations ago. How far we've sunk!

Work from home a couple of days a wweek and take the train in the rest. $350,000-400,000 buys a five bedroom home on two acres with and inground swimming pool in Indiana. ---------------------
According to the Baxter County sheriff's office, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 5000 block of Old Military Road in Mountain Home after a caller reported a shooting there shortly before 8:30 a.m.

A few minutes after deputies and an Arkansas State Police trooper arrived, a 2004 Ford pickup drove around the residence and began accelerating toward a deputy who was standing in the yard, a news release stated. TWO DEPUTIES FIRED AT THE PICKUP, which hit a ditch and went airborne, eventually hitting a sheriff's office vehicle, authorities said.

Inside the home, deputies found Chester Raymond Hornowski dead, with gunshot wounds to the hands, chest and face.

Great point, at least someone is thinking who is on the job. Thought the same thing a couple of years back, took all of the money's out and put it into my wives IRA in Fidelity. Played with the market and made out good. Don't take a change, Nationwide is connected to the city.

maybe rahm and taxwinkle can figure out how to tax fleeing former illinoisans

12/06/2017 07:22:00 AM

Some nasty shit-talk keeps popping up about "all" the retired
Policemen and Firemen who are fleeing Chicago and Illinois
and taking their pensions and "treasure" with them.

"Oh? So it was good enough for you guys to stay while
you were working but now you want to liquidate, flee
and take the money WE paid you out of the revenue
stream? Eff you turncoats for not staying and
kicking back some of what we taxpayers allowed
you to accumulate..."

Seriously...

These people have lost their m/fing minds.

There IS legislative pressure to enact punitive
counter-measures against retired "Public Servants"
who flee with their treasure.

They want to tax pensions and they want to tax
those who flee Chicago and Illinois as a punishment.

You play by the rules and devote half or more of your
adult life to these ungrateful wretches and they
shit-talk you for exercising good common sense
and leaving THEM to work out terms of surrender
with the Free Shit Army.

And these fools jaw-jacking about all the construction
cranes bobbing up & down in the Downtown area?

It's all orchestrated eye-wash courtesy of Rahm to lure in the
the cyber-money and service economy middle-managers and up...

The next implosion is going to be more ruinous
than the last one.

Mostly little guys got wrecked in the last one.

The next one?
Downtown will be like Downtown Johannesburg...
Office towers with smoke from squatters fires
wafting out of busted windows.

Meanwhile, shit at ground level is going to be ugly.

In 2015, a community policing initiative — one credited with helping curb violence in some of L.A.’s toughest housing projects — scored the Los Angeles Police Department high-level praise. A captain and a sergeant who led the program were invited to Washington, D.C., earning coveted seats near the first lady during President Obama’s State of the Union address. This year, L.A. officials applied for more than $3 million in federal funding to help bring the same program to Harvard Park, a South L.A. neighborhood scarred by violence. The request was denied. The U.S. Department of Justice hasn’t offered the LAPD an explanation of why the department didn’t receive any of the $98 million in grants recently ...

Question? Why are there 53 large high rise projects currently under construction in downtown Chicago? Why are the city streets and highways all "jammed up" with traffic. People coming and going. I am 70yrs. old. In my observation the city and state are more crowded than ever. According to this site all the tax payers are leaving. So, all these people, don't contribute, just take resources ?

Ok, grandpa liberal. This "site" isn't making the claim. Dozens of national statistics are making the claim. Obviously your scared, but wishing something isn't true won't correct the problem.

Feels good to say that my wife and I have begun the the liquidation process to leave this state. It is plain and simple, this place is bankrupt and there is nothing on the horizon that addresses future solvency. I cannot in good faith trust that our investments and hard work will be looked after by local politicians whether locally or at the state level. The sheer greed and dysfunction across the political spectrum is mind boggling. It is no longer “our” state as the politicians have cravenly sucked every last drop of blood from the “body” creating a shriveled and withered corpse.

For those stuck here, shelter in place for the coming conflagration and do not rely upon the promises of the pension.

This female det gets on the scene and starts yellling and screaming at the officers that were on the crime scene. The Sgt comes back on the scene after having to respond to another job and gives it to the female detective about her yelling at the officers. The poor female detective calls her Lt who then calls the 007th district Lt to find out why the detective got yelled at. Really??? What are we in grade school now?? -- This should be an outrage to every officer, everywhere. The department OWES this man the resources to put his life back together and be whole again. This is a typical money saving ploy by the low life scum municipal official pigs who get fat every day off the tax payer trough. They figure they can cut this man off just before he's vested so they can save a few more bucks for themselves. They will throw money hand over fist for all kinds of free programs and subsidies to buy votes from the welfare junkies, but as soon as this officer is in trouble they cut him off and basically say "thank you for your service. now go fuck off and die somewhere since you are no use to us anymore." I've been in IL over 50 yrs, born in Chicago, lived on the North side, then moved to the 'burbs when the bangers moved in... 7 generations of family in Illinois. When you get right down to it - the weather's not that bad. Good water source...

But the ever-increasing tax load (property, sales, soda, bags, restaurants), surcharges, regulations, fees, etc. all take their toll (pun intended). Crime goes up, free loaders complain more and nothing is done - freeloaders are coddled at the expense of law-abiding citizens (and the Police that protect us from them).

Stir in a healthy dose of insane liberals that are just EXHAUSTING to talk or listen to, and I've had enough. I run a business, but my clients are in Illinois. So I'm looking to work for someone else - in another State far from this place.

Selling the house, packing up the stuff, moving on out... Get the same size house for 25% less, and pay property taxes on it that are $10K less per year which means that in 10 years, I have at least another $100K in the bank for MY retirement.

It's truly a shame, the ugliness and destruction wrought by all things Democrat...

1. Yes, you may ask a question. Why, ask several, whilst you visit.

2. Ponzi comes to mind. Birds do it, bees do it, even well connected bankers do it.......with a kickback chaser......

3. You answered this one yourself.....people, coming, then going. Not staying.

4. All of which "these people"? Are they the these people you observe.....coming and going?

Are they the these people, you observe, who are crowding this city, (you are aware this city is Chicago, located within the boundaries of the County of Crooks, said county being situated at the south western tip of a rather large, and thus, Great Lake, are you not?), even though crowding seems a trifle erroneous as an assessment.

Are they the these people who experience crowding within their domicile, and, upon exiting same, gaze across vast wastelands of empty lots, where once, long, long ago, (you may remember....), there stood an abundance of solid, brick/stone residences?

Might the these people you observe be a large percentage of receivers of funds, (sans any noticeable efforts to earn/work for it), harvested via taxations, plus a smaller percentage of businesses, employing those who earn their daily bread, plus an ample percentage of sanctuary seekers, whose participation in the employee pool tends to strongly decrease wages, plus a miniscule percentage of hustlers, hucksters and hi-jinksters, (think politicians + minions + any connivers who can hook their way into the game), plus a noticible percentage of not yet aware of the realities of human nature, plus, you provide something more than your observations made whilst wearing your reading glasses.......

Yes, it's protected. But if you are in Chicago blended fixed options say goodbye to your money. This is considered our safe haven but it's really the most dangerous option for your money. You are purchasing insurance contracts with a 50/50 split between Hartford and nationwide. Read the fine print, if one of them goes bust u lose 50 percent of money, if both bust, u lose 100 percent. Research how Hartford avoided bankruptcy in 2008. It's a shame we don't have a safe haven to put our money like 99 percent of retirement plans do.

Hey SCC: Feel free to post this as a new blog entry

Last night, 2 Sheriff's Policemen were injured (one seriously) on I90 while conducting a traffic stop.

The seriously injured PO (unconscious at the scene and partially entrapped)was transported to LGH. He will be OK, was was really banged up.

So I called radio to make sure that the notified one of the CCSPD Department Chaplins Father Sullivan or Rabbi Wolfe. Radio tell me that both were let go abd that we have no Chaplins to come out.

WTF? A major Police Department without a Chaplin? Dart actually let Rabbi Wolfe go? Are you freaking kidding me?? One of the kindest and most decent men that I have ever met in 12 years OTJ. He came to our graduation, conducted funerals for some of our Jewish Patrolmen like Bruce Loeb. A decent gentile man he is. Same goes for Fr. Sullivan. I enjoyed taking mass at St. Father Thomas More before I moved out of the city.

This guy Dart has to go. What a wretched rat SOB he is. He lets people get laid off right before christmas, yet all of his double and triple dipping pols keep their jobs. He has some Russian BILLIONAIRE as a D/C of Police driving around in his Hummer with SWAT plates.

If you guys want him as your Mayor be my guest. I would take Acevedo as Sheriff over this clown! Just disgusted!

NOPE !! Got the tiniest house on the block...getting very close to $1000. per month.
The bigger houses on 37 or 50 foot lots , even if they're old places pay well over that....and the new million and a half or two million dollar places are paying 33- 35- even 37 THOUSAND a year. I have no idea what these people do to have money like that to throw away....but ,they're here ALL OVER THE NORTHSIDE. That's just in the area say maybe 800 north to 7200 north from the lake to maybe Western... big houses, condo developments, etc, have replaced older places and the tax for the new place is four or five or more times what that land was previously bringing in...AND IT"S BEEN GOING ON for 20-30 years... RE taxes in reality should have gone down with all the increased revenue but 30- 40 years of criminal politicians and generations of non- working, non- paying, gimme-gimme voters have taken the excess and demanded more. Do y'know who they get it from ?/// Maybe someone with time on their hands and a calculator could figure out just how big an area around Wrigley Field it would take to fund all pensions if the taxes went directly into those funds...and have something left for retiree healthcare, TOO.

The wandering minstrel wove his way throughout the maze of threads which, having been woven over decades by miscreant mischiefs, were as helter skelter as one would expect them to be.

Having reached a vantage point both sweeping and secure, he paused, pulled his instrument from his backpack, and pondered on the fitting tune which beckoned to be played.

A series of sad and melancholy harmonies were soon strummed and sent wafting over all within his view.

No words need be spoken or sung, for, what words could do justice to the mood induced by the vista of vexations he viewed from his vantage, though the phrase, "Oh what fools these mortals be....", did flash swiftly in his mind........

Great point, at least someone is thinking who is on the job. Thought the same thing a couple of years back, took all of the money's out and put it into my wives IRA in Fidelity. Played with the market and made out good. Don't take a change, Nationwide is connected to the city.

No...No you didn't.

OT:Congress passed a bill to allow anyone with a concealed carry from any state to cross state lines. So finally I can tell people from out of state you can carry with no problems. Thank you President Trump.

Slow down Quick Draw Magraw only passed the senate a--holes will more than likely not even take it up. Keep hoping I am.

Passing that law may not be the best thing. Look for democrats like Pelosi and Schumer to attach some anti-gun law to it. One of the bills would revoke your gun rights for minor infractions, such as unpaid parking tickets.

From someone who has received 20 year old parking tickets from city.

3:37 PM " You must have one helluva house if you're paying $1000. a month "

Wow, didn’t realize they are that high. NW side a lot cheaper than that
Most people don’t realize Chicago board of education (CPS) takes 53% of your real estate taxes. That’s were the problem is. Dwindling enrollments, half empty schools, but their tax levy gets raised every year by the max allowed. Forgot to mention students aren’t improving

The nonsense you described goes on all the time in CPD. It is a sick organization and has been quite ill for many, many years. And, most times, the ignorant fucks that believe you wronged them will never say a word to you, but will try to fuck you at every turn about some stupid shit you do not even remember. That is fucked up, but it is the code of conduct at CPD.
12/06/2017 10:19:00 PM

The reason this happens is because there are too many people who got their spots as scholarships and not because they learned the job, put the time in, got the needed experience and EARNED the job.

When daddy gets you your spot, or auntie makes a phone call to the alderman to slide you into some hidden office, they are undermining the CPD. They don't give a damn about the department's purpose or our obligation to the citizens; they care only that their fragile baby girl or well-manicured son is taken care of.

Those 'taken care of' CPD employees (I won't call them police) don't know the realities of policing and they behave badly when called upon to act in a police capacity. They are incompetent, ill-behaved and equivalent to spoiled children.

Every boss who 'brings in' a friend's kid or a relative's side-chick or an alderman's flunky is participating in undermining and demolishing this department. The whole system is decayed and corrupt.

12/06/2017 12:26:00 PM

If it were insured by FDIC it would only be insured for the maximum $250,000
12/06/2017 03:34:00 PM

A joint account, however, is insured at $500,000.

All investments involve a level of risk..you may lose some or all of your money invested. The only way to remove your money from Nationwide is to terminate your employment. Sad but true!

A joint account has nothing to do with deferred and Nationwide. You can’t have a joint deferred comp account. It’s an individual. You have a beneficiary, but not a joint account. Put thanks anyway for the information that doesn’t apply.
Deferred is a just a different version of the original IRA. which stands for INDIVIDUAL retirement account

Little fanfare was made on this, but the Governor signed the Illinois Sanctuary State law. Not much more to say.

The citizen are escaping from slavery. The government is enforcing illegal laws, rather laws that have been declared unconstitutional, criminals go free or with a warning and everyone is relocating. Its about time somebody recognized this fact, no people, no money collected and bankruptcy is next. Or write more tickets says Rahm, the tiny dancer.
