How Much Will This Cost?

  • Cook County ditches the Sweetened Beverage Tax on Friday, but the newly approved budget is not getting implemented without a court fight.

Chief Cook County Judge Timothy Evans is suing to stop court layoffs. CBS 2’s Susanna Song has a look at the legal fight.

Chief Judge Evans is suing Toni Preckwinkle to keep her from laying off at least 156 court employees. There is a hearing at 11 a.m. Friday morning before a Lake County judge.
We're pretty sure the separation of power applies to local units of government - and the Executive Branch can sign or veto any budget passed by the Legislative Branch regarding staffing of the Judicial and associated branches. One branch suing another merely enriches connected lawyers.

Maybe while Evans is out in Lake County he can do a little shopping? Get a feel for how taxes differ between poorly and less poorly run counties?

Maybe while Evans is in Lake Co., he can take a few lessons on how judges actually follow state law when it comes to bonds, charges, sentencing, etc...

Question: why is lake county hearing a bullshit cook county case? At any rate, preckwinkle is a complete anarchist who, ironically, works in government. This is called irony. I hope she's successful in a weird way. I kind of want these people to reap what they sow.

I know the plan has been to close Belmont and Western court branches, but has anyone heard where those cases would be reassigned to?

The State of Minnesota recently went through something similar. Governor Mark "Foster Brooks" Dayton line item vetoed the ENTIRE Legislature Budget, both House and Senate. The MN Supreme Court said that was perfectly OK. They felt the use of legislative slush funds to make up the difference made the official defunding of the OK.

But since this is those Perfect Saints in Black Robes, they deserve full funding; and bonuses besides, to assuage the hurt of the pretend budget cuts.

Defund the courts, and let the criminal thugs go free! Isn't that what Prickwinkle and Foxxx want to accomplish? Just cut out the middle man, and let them all go free!

This is political theater. Those 156 court employees are patronage workers also known as precinct workers. That's 156 votes and family votes they don't want lost. They will be back working soon with back pay if they get laid off.

And I presume the taxPAYERS are on the hook for the legal fees being paid to Machine attorneys on each side.

"Poorly and less poorly run counties" which is which? The only difference is the amount of graft available for the taking. But don't fret the taxpayers will foot the bill so it's a loose, loose. Fire them all including the incompetent judges and Toni P.

Lay off the public defenders. They're complete assholes as they stand in court stroking defendants' balls while hating and lying about police officers.

These Men & Women in the Black Robes are not justifying there means. From what I've seen most arrested are being released on a extremely Low Bond, Electronic Home Monitoring which is another Disaster. They should have a Comp-Stat for the Judges ever month. Let's seen what the conviction and jail time rates were from month to month from previous year to current year. And have them replaced.

Have the number of people cut increase to cover the cost of the legal fees.

Why is 200 million still the number the county claims it's short? The tax must had generated some revenue in its short life span. Even my 12 year old understands the numbers, the court fight and the tax are bogus.

Cheef judge Evans has his Berrios-style family affair working the County system too, but far from layoff are their six figure salaries.
Decades of packing the County with 99% patronage waste hiring and they’re crying.
Across the board cuts, no County department should be exempt, nobody going to jail and arrests are down...why is the judiciary still running a full and increasing budget as is the States Attorneys office or were they given a pass for not harping on the PrickCanker?

A huge heap of corruption and impropriety exists.
Federal and State funding should be suspended and audit conducted.
See how long it takes before she up and flies off on her broom.

The county's budget is 5.36 BILLION. They "lost" 200 MILLION. That around 3 or 4 percent. How is Winkle demanding 10% cuts in public safety departments. Seems like she is trying to piss off the law and order voters.

Lake County judges are horrible if you're a man going through a divorce. They always side with the female and they allow attorneys to drag cases out and run legal fees up.

Why doesn't he just issue warrants for all the politicians for THEFT OF TAX MONEY, FORGERY, AND FELONY MURDER FOR ALL THE DEATHS CAUSED BY THEIR NEGLIGENCE WHILE COMMITTING FELONY THEFT OF TAXES and freeing all the aaaholes they won't charge, throw out of court, release on bond, and suspended sentences! While they are in Lake County maybe they can get a judge to issue warrants for all the aaahole judges who go along with this bullshit!

Evans hired his twin daughters as managers of court jury for over $100,000 a year. They just got 9% raises. I would sure like to know what there actual job description is, what there qualifications are and if the jobs were ever advertised? Nepotism full strength under Evans. One of the problems at Cook County government is the fact there is a lot of feather bedding going on there and a whole lot of overpaid people
