002 Lobby

Forwarded to us - how is this even allowed?

Hey FOP? Safety Grievance? How many lice or scabbies are breeding right now in this pile? Airborne diseases being coughed out on unsuspecting coppers? Contact sicknesses, too.

Is the 002 District a place of business or what? Who the fuck allows something like this to occur?

Just so you know this is all courtesy of the new third watch Lt. He has told the desk crew and others in the building that he is mentoring young lammon reccord... yes, the BLM activist. He said he is taking reccord under his wing and allowing him to come in to feed the homeless in the 2nd district. With the praise of the Lt lammon now comes in that station like he owned it and treats the desk crew accordingly.. and yes, the Lt was merit and undeserving. Given a merit pick because he fulfilled a certain criteria that has nothing to do with work ethic, know how or experience.. of course crystal kaaannggg smiff has no issues with this at all. Two of the biggest racists out there in my opinion.

Finally! The truth comes out. I happen to work in that toilet of a district (they don't call it the deuce for nothing) and this an everyday occurrence...even in the summer. The weak, incompetent commander allows it. It's like a hooverville in there. I don't know what's worse, the smell of fermented toejam coming from the bums or the low-grade incense that those atom splitting geniuses at the desk insist on burning that allegedly masks the smell, but instead creates a unique and offensive funk reminiscent of your average arrestee's body odor. I'm done!

If I had a crime to report, I would be afraid to walk in there.

Thanks for showing another visual of Chicago and why no one should go do any business there.

What you should do is send this picture to @WorldBusinessChicago -they are always talking up how great Chicago is. Evidently, they don't get out of their posh downtown office to see reality.

That's why we have shelters but they don't want to go to the shelter because then they'd have to take their medication, take showers, attend religious services and follow the shelter's curfew rule. Why follow a curfew rule when you can run in and out of 002nd district all night? Old filthy blankets, suitcases, shopping carts, bags of miscellaneous garbage and a smell out of this world. Lighting candles behind the desk won't kill diseases. Police station are warming centers not hotels /shelters. Make them go with DHS so they can get the services they need instead of making them longterm residences. They have lice and many of them are not on their medication. P.S if you ever pulling up in front of 002 to use the cash station be sure to lock your car doors, but they runs in and out and stand out front too.

Pardon me, I call bullshit on the copper of "26 years" above who ends his post let them be. I am a troll reader and if you think that picture is okay then you have not learned much in 26 years, no disrespect intended if you are truthful.

Who checked them and their "belongings" for weapons? Who checked them for warrants? How do keep them leaving and coming back with a weapon or posing as poor homeless people who later join an assault of the station? That appears to be a police station and not a homeless shelter. It was not designed to be a homeless shelter. There are many shelters all over the city and many UNDER capacity every night. That is where homeless should be.

If there was discipline and integrity in the command structure, you would not have this kind of insanity happening. But you do not have either of the aforementioned required qualities of good leadership which is why you are in the fix you are. You do not even have strong leadership at the lodge and the fact that this situation exists is further evidence of failure. This is a very good example of the lack of leadership that defines what it is to be a Chicago Police Officer in 2017. I am glad I grew up when I did, when Vietnam era cops were coming on and we knew those cops meant business when they told us to grab the wall or get off the street. As a grown man I am not sure what is going on now.

I guess the Lt. on the 3rd is banking on Lamon Reccord winning the Alderman seat of the 7th ward. Lamon is a high school drop out from CVS high school. He dropped out before the age of 16. Lamon Reccord doesn't want mentoring. He thinks he knows more than the police or any adult. That's not mentoring, that's more like catering. Karen Lewis, Prekwrinkle and Father Pfleger had the nerve to allow this HS dropout protest with them during school hours, inside of city and state buildings. Reccord has sat in police board meetings, yelling at brass members while the principal of CVS is recording the automated voice message on his guardian's answering service. "YOUR CHILD DID NOT ATTEND SCHOOL TODAY." Lewis the president of CPS union allowed dropout Reccord to work for her instead of encouraging him to get his high school diploma. Reccord is still young enough to obtain a legit HS diploma.

So if we allow this at a police station, can the bums just set up shop at any public building - say CITY HALL, a firehouse, a library...AN ALDERMANS OFFICE... why his is allowed at a police station is beyond me. It used to be they waited in the lobby for a ride from Human Services and were driven to a shelter (up to a certain time) - now they have just created a tent city in 002. I feel bad for the janitor who has to clean this shot up - especially the public bathroom in the lobby.

Why are these people not taken to homeless shelters or has Rhonda closed many of the homeless shelters as he has closed 10 other mental health facilities so now we have all of the crazies are out roaming the streets. This is not good for the homeless people or good for the police or anyone else that enters their pathetic facility some of these people have disease they need to be taken care of properly not housed inside of a police facility. The commander and white shirt management staff are sickening they all should be reprimanded and properly train but then again with the command staff we have now they are laughable every last one of them when Eddie came in he had a chance and big chance to make positive changes in the Chicago Police Department but all he did was shuffle the deck of the same old people that did nothing I have no clue how to be in charge over there for is the take from you a big chunk of the pension.

What is going on with the gold braid parity bill question? They head of the Chicago Police Pension board and the board of directors are to be looking into illuminating the gold braid pension just like the Chicago fire department pension fund has done years ago looks like the fire department is definitely the heroes in the pension department and our patient board are the zeros allowing our underfunded pension that by the way is severely underfunded do you have the cloud it clouded people take pensions their own deserved just just look at the shenanigans even rhymes detail his valet units every last one of them are patrolman pensions ranging from sergeants all the way up to commanders.

Hello Dean are you looking into this are you still hiding in closets very quietly come out into the sunshine it's us take a visit to this district get out of that office take a ride come and see the police facilities and see what the officers actually do maybe even do some right along's with actual street working coppers maybe you'll learn a thing about what being a police really means.

Instead of pissing and moaning about it, why doesn't some copper invest several minutes notifying a shelter with enough beds, ask them to come out and pick them up? Then meet them in the lobby and inform the tent city residents that there will be an arrest made if they do not choose to go to the shelter, or leave the station. I cant imagine any watch Commander/DSS not on board with this. Imagine the legit contact cards that could be submitted here...

Believe it or not, homeless people are people too. I imagine that they feel safer the station. They just need to be encouraged to "get along somewhere else"...In the winter in Chicago there are Faith ministries with buses/vans that go out to the homeless and minister to their needs. This is an underused resource IMHO.

I get that the station should not be used for permanent refuge. No more than a few hours, and you have to go somewhere. Even if it needs to be cleaned out every shift.

I am now retired, but as a desk officer I used to call "Department of Human services" to come get them. I don't know if that resource is still available. All it would take is a few minutes to care about a solution to the problem rather than simply complaining about it.

Have we fallen so far that we have forgotten who and what we are?

Chickenpox, Influenza, Measles, Smallpox, Cryptococcosis, and Tuberculosis are all 'air born transmitted diseases.' Tuberculosis is transmitted by air in coughing, sneezing, talking, or spitting. A tuberculosis infected person can easily infect an additional 10-20 people in the same year with the same strain. TB-causing bacteria is passed from person to person through the air when someone with the disease coughs or sneezes. People who are nearby may get infected after breathing in bacteria. The bacteria can attack any part of the body, but they usually stick to the lungs. People who are infected by 'latent' TB ( by breathing in infected air born particles)do not have immediate symptoms, however the bacteria remain alive in the body and can become active later. They have what are called latent infections. If at some point in their lives their immune system is weakened, the once-dormant bacteria may begin to grow again and cause 'active' tuberculosis. TB bacteria become active if the body's immune system can't stop them from growing. They then multiply and make people sick. A small number of people get sick soon after they are infected, but most reactivate after years of latent infection.
The point of the above research information listed here in brief summary, is to inform our people and to protect yourself from 'air born diseases.' Perhaps a 'documented unsafe working condition' (OSHA complaint or FOP filed grievance) IF nothing else, can document (photos, written complaint) the present conditions. As far as an immediate remedy to the situation/conditions, I'm a realist and I'm aware of how the city works (or doesn't work)on behalf of our members. My whole point is to be careful, try and document conditions and take any precautions to protect you and your family.
Good Luck, stay safe and God Bless all our bothers and sisters, "on da' job."

3/14/2017 03:18:00 AM

There are other things coming into play here. One, I am sure the direction is coming from city hall and the alderman's office to allow people to sleep in the stations when the weather is bad. Two, the city does not provide enough shelters for homeless and not enough vans from city service to pick these people up in a timely fashion. Again, the city is doing this on the cheap.Go to a suburban police station and you will not find this. I volunteer at a homeless shelter during the month. There are many places available in the south suburbs alone. Every night of the week these are open from 1 October to 1 May and they provide shelter from 7 PM to 7AM , seven days a week along with a hot supper, a hot breakfast and a bag lunch. Some also have showers available. You will find men and women and children in these shelters. They are called BEDS/PADS. This is where the suburban cops bring the homeless. They do not allow these unfortunate people to sleep in their stations ( for one the stations have no room and are built like currency exchanges)d a nd they do not allow them to sleep on the streets. It is about time the city steps up and does something about this and not push the problem onto the police who are not equipped to handle this, although they certainly do try.

As someone who has had the (dis)pleasure of working in 002 occasionally over the years when assigned to an outside unit, it has always had the least professional desk crew in the city.
The attitudes, the work ethic, and the overall energy in that place is atrocious.
If anyone in a position to help is reading this- try stopping in on 3rd or 1st watch especially to see for yourself. The culture itself in that building is rotten.

If you were homeless I'm sure you would appreciate it. Try living outside on the streets on a cold chicago night. I became a copper 26 years ago. Before I became the police I had lost my job, apartment and my car. I lived outside for 3 weeks. It was the hardest time of my life. I was able to get a job at a furniture store loading trucks and got back on my feet again eventually before my life was saved and I got this job. I'm ever greatful for this job and I laugh when I hear you people complain about it. I was literally a homeless bum for thee weeks and it was in the winter. Let these people be, it's not easy no matter what the situation is and could happen to anyone.

3/14/2017 12:16:00 AM

A police facility should be secured not open to anyone. How can the desk crew ensure security when people live in the lobby? They are not equipped to care for the homeless? A homeless shelter knows how to care for the homeless and those with mental or medical issues. I can only imagine the smells and risk of disease. This would only happen in Chicago. BTW FOP is too busy to even consider this issue.

Finally, don't confuse caring, humanity etc. for homeless people with caring for one's own self.
The point is that there should be a place for these homeless, i.e. City Services and NOT laying in the lobby of police stations.
There's quite a difference between caring and caution.
And the truth is the city doesn't really care (other than lip service)so we need to exercise caution, especially when it comes to TB which is extremely contagious in warmer, confined and continued exposure conditions.
We don't need any lectures on caring for the homeless. We know and appreciate the fact that 'by the Grace of God, go I' but that's NO excuse for us to be exposed to this needless danger because the 'City That Works--DON'T!'
As stated, document these conditions and protect yourselves.

In response to this comment: everyday day when homeless come into our district we direct them to call 311 and wait for human services/catholic charities. Most homeless call then refuse to go to the shelter. Some have been banned from those shelters because they act like ass hats or don't follow the rules. I feel sorry for homeless people too. However there are services available There is no reason a police station on a daily basis should be inundated with homeless sleeping in a lobby. During a snow emergency or heat emergency MAYBE. But even in those situations there is a city service to help them which most refuse A police station is not equipped for this

If the city really gave a shit about these people, they would get CTA buses and park one out in front to use as a warming place. Would keep them out of the station, and still provide a warm shelter, and although tight, it may be safer.

I agree with the cop who was formerly homeless that these people need a reprieve from the brutal weather. But I completely disagree that a police department lobby is the place for them. It's not safe for our officers, it isn't healthy for them to be exposed to whatever diseases these poor people have contracted, and there are --and should be-- other locations available as shelters and warming centers. Just not the lobby of the police department.

I don't need to try living outside on a cold Chicago night, because I'm not mentally ill, drug-addicted, alcohol-addicted, lazy, and unemployable. These people aren't "down on their luck" or just going through a rough patch. These are people who, for the most part, have made a conscious choice to live on the streets. They have chosen not to get jobs and become productive members of society. They have decided to spend their lives accepting handouts, committing crimes, begging and stealing, etc. because it's easier than working to get back on their feet and off the streets. They have no motivation and no reason to better themselves. They don't want to go to a shelter. They don't want jobs. They don't want to change their situation. It couldn't "happen to anyone." It happens to those who choose to let it happen and do nothing about it. You chose to find a job and eventually a career. They have chosen to stay on the streets. This country needs mental health treatment centers, including places where the dangerous and criminally insane are kept locked up instead of roaming the streets. It doesn't need homeless people sleeping on the floor of police stations. Most homeless people carry some sort of weapon. Most have some substance abuse problem. Most have communicable diseases. Most have no love for the police. This is a serious and ridiculous safety issue that should be addressed. Police stations are not homeless shelters. They are not equipped to feed and house the homeless. If you feel so bad for these poor souls, invite them into your home, help them get back on their feet, find them jobs, and solve this problem. 26 years as a police officer and you somehow don't understand this city's homeless problem? I'm guessing the majority of your career was spent in an office.

This is ridiculous, all the potential problems with disease and treating people like animals laying all over the floors! Who closed all the mental health facilities? Rahm and his crew of course bet many are in need of mental health care, why can't they just stay at city hall 5th floor big office, then over to the county side 5th floor lots of room, they at police headquarters 5th floor (Wait a minute all the trouble and corruption the 5th floor cause of all this!

On another note been working on a study to answer these questions:
1) How many Chicago police officers have been sickened by cancer and or died due to the results of police stations that had cancer causing substances from asbestos in the walls and in the floor tiles? Unclean air ex-changers in the HVAC (heating, ventilation,Air conditioning systems).

2) How many are being sickened by the excessive mold problems?

3) Why are so many children born with various maladies?autism on the rise?

4) So many people are now reacting negatively to gluten what is in our wheat now that was not added before? Ever look at the size of chicken breasts, the quick development of children rapid maturity?

5) Why so many lactose intolerant what is added to our dairy?

6) Medical marijuana is also being studied the results in pain management and reversal of some cancerous tumors is astounding, and the patients are not experiencing all the negative affects of opiates, we may be on the brink of something positive,as police officers we know that the stress levels due to the political structure, the bosses, and the thugs on street are causing many health issues. We talked to a veteran operating room nurse and she said doctors told her "there is no money in curing a disease!"
Studies like this:
http://www.medicalmarijuanainc.com/tumors-medical-marijuana-research-overview/

Research has shown that cannabis can help inhibit the growth of, and even kill the cells of, cancerous tumors. One of the major cannabinoids found in cannabis, cannabidiol (CBD), has shown to inhibit the progression of cancers located in the breast, lung, prostate and colon in several animal trials3,7,8,15. CBD has also shown to cause a dramatic drop in both mitochondrial oxidative metabolism and the viability of the cells that make up brain tumors (glioma), thereby having an antiproliferative effect. The administering of CBD to mice has shown to significantly inhibit the growth of subcutaneously implanted human glioma cells6. One study found that administering a combination of CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), another major cannabinoid found in cannabis, four hours before radiation treatment increased the radiosensitivity of cancer cells, which caused an increase in cell autophagy and apoptosis10.

Every officer that is working when these individuals are there should submit an exposure report. In the box for what you were exposed to write "airborne pathogens". Do this A.S.A.P.!! Rest assured, you work there you were exposed. As a Lt if it were my place of business they would get placed in a shelter designed for overnight "guests" or they would leave. F.O.P. and PBPA needs to immediately lodge a grievance that the members are working in an unsafe environment, with full and complete knowledge of the department administration. It's not just unsafe when they are there; how is the area cleaned? I highly doubt that it is cleaned to safely remove all of the bodily fluids, and critters, that these individuals leave behind. Remember, we are authorized to carry tools to protect us (guns, tasers, spray, etc.) and one of those tools is the grievance process. Utilize all of the tools in the box; STAY SAFE!

If anything this shows that even the homeless people feel safer by the police. Which makes all the rhetoric that people are afraid of them and don't trust them incorrect. I pray for our city and first responders everyday as the answers to the problems our city faces seem very hopeless but just like I believe there are more good people in the city then bad, and there are way more good police than bad, I believe we can make our city safe and proud again. I heard there are more homeless than beds available at shelters. Nobody wants to see people sleeping in the cold.

A couple of CFD firemen, holding a 3" high pressure hose, connected to a American LaFrance pump truck could have this matter cleaned up in 10 minutes. Never happen though, the revrunds, Fr. Flakey, Jesse, Toni, BLM, community activists, AA alderthieves all will cry racism. So, let them live with this shit. It don't bother me because I don't. But I do very much sympathize with the officers who have to come in contact with this trash and smell it. As a newly departed citizen of Chicago (now relocated to Flagstaff,AZ) I thank you for your years of protection, dedication and perseverance in continuing to serve in a shithole created by liberal Democratic politicians. May those of you near retirement, enjoy your twilight years because you earned it.

I agree with the copper who was homeless for three weeks and has 26 years on. This is one of the greatest jobs in the world for the right person. The benefits of this career FAR outweigh the bad side. I laugh to myself whenever I see people complaining about it.

I could see this on a very temporary basis - say if there was a natural disaster, some kind of terrorist attack, or super duper cold sub-zero temps, EVERY shelter and warming center was full up AND if we didn't coddle and welcome illegals with this Sanctuary City bullshit. But every person wanting to snuggle up in the lobby would have to be frisked - and that's an issue in itself eh?

But as soon as all that disaster crap passed - GET THE FUCK OUT. Then I'd have the guys in flame throwers come by to sterilize everything.

On an ongoing basis? This is completely fucked up.

Officer Rick Francis EOW 02 Jul 2008 was killed by a homeless person who had spent the night in the 019 disctrict lobby. She walked across the street, got on a bus, and then everything went sideways. The homeless belong in SHELTERS not Police Stations!

We don't allow that anymore in the 7th district. You either go with human services or you get out. On 2 occasions we had one guy live in our bushes for about 3 months. Then a lady lived on our bench for about 6 months You gotta put and end to that. It's not safe.

Oh the humanity. What ever happened to living under the expressway & viaducts?

These are obama's Forgotten Brothers Keepers.
These people have been turned away from one shelter to the next for many reasons.
Most if not all probably have no ill will against the police (anymore).
But:
CPD cannot be the social service agency to look after them.
Millions of dollars go out to these non-profits and they get the right to refuse aiding the homeless.
Rahm should be ashamed to have turned his back on these destitute American citizens.
But he isn't, he's pledged more tax money to illegals and law breakers.
Arrestees are getting free legal counsel now, compliments of Chief Judge Tim Evins & the Cook Co Public Defenders Office.
How about some social service and simple housing for the homeless?
Let's see if the FakeNews outlets pick up on this blatant RahmEmanuel Failure.
Criminals, illegal immigrant refugees and homeless are piling up as fast as the murder victims and Rahm has done nothing but complain that the CPD needs reforming.
When Rahm turns his back on the less fortunate, CPD steps up and goes beyond what any of the other City agencies would ever do.
Thankless job, but that's what we signed up for.
