A Chicago Gun Store?

  • A Chicago man is pitching plans to open the city's only gun store and gun range.

Irving Park resident Christopher O'Connor plans to open Firearms Defense Training Center, a full service gun range and gun shop in a warehouse at 613 N. Union Ave. in an industrial corridor of River West. The building is located near the Tribune's Freedom Center printing plant, the WaterSaver Faucet Company and the Chicago River.

After decades of fighting legal challenges against Chicago's strict gun restrictions, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the city's handgun ban in 2010. In 2012, a federal appeals court struck down Illinois' concealed carry ban and the City Council passed an ordinance in 2014 overturning the ban.
But he'll still have to get it through the City Council's "Zoning Board of Appeals," and there isn't nearly enough bribe money being passed around to do that.

Here's an amusing admission from the local aldercreature though:
  • "So long as residents don't have a problem with it, I don't think it's a big deal," [Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th)] said. "Everyone I run into now has a conceal carry permit. You don't want a bunch of folks to have guns and not know what they're doing with them."
Really? Everyone? In Rahm's "gun-free" Chicago, Home of the Often Ignored "Beretta 92F Banned" Signs? Imagine that.

But again, it's bound to fail based on simple economics:
  • If approved, the 25,000-square-foot Firearms Defense Training Center would "look like an Apple Store" and provide a consultative experience to prospective gun buyers, he told DNAinfo Chicago Thursday.

Gun stores "are no longer a dank, dark, smelly spots with shelves and shelves of guns," said O'Connor, 33. "This will be an accessible store. The goal is to find the right gun for you."

The gun shop would feature armored display cases and two classrooms on site.

Under the city's rules, gun shop owners must videotape all gun sales and open their books for inspection by Chicago Police. Gun buyers are limited to buying one gun every 30 days.
Sure, and if we find gun we like, we'll simply get a quote, travel outside of Cook County, and buy it there for $100 bucks less, without worrying about videotaping or 30 day limits. We'll also pick up ammo at $0.05 per round less, thanks to Prickwrinkle's bullet tax. It's not like Chicago/Cook County needs businesses to thrive, right?

UPDATE: And the usual layers of media fact-checking fail once again:
  • To date, no gun store has opened in Chicago. The closest gun ranges are located in suburban Zion, Lombard and Riverdale. There is also a gun range in Lyons.
We can think of one under 2 miles away from Chicago, but hey, "journalism" is hard.

Zion? One doesn't need to go all the way up there - just stop at GTR Sporting Club, 3059 W. Washington, Waukegan.

It's the gun shop that the guy wants to build in Chiraq, only it's built and operational now. 22 lanes, 8 of which are tactical (target spin 'go/no-go', lights or no lights), great air quality, FFL Xfers, gun shop, ammo, clothing, food, CCL classes, and more...

There's on in Crystal Lake, something in Lincolnwood, one in West Dundee... Ottawa, IL they're more prevalent than the article leads on. But you can't have the sheeple realizing that, they might suddenly have an epiphany about how their herders are lying to them or something.... wwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhttttt? baaaaaaa...

To the poster throwing up the 009th district picture with rahm: why don't you just tell him that a previous superintendent took a suspension for supporting a politicians campaign and you don't want that to happen to you.

Or just grow a fucking set of balls and tell him the truth, that he has pandered to the people that he needs to buy votes from by throwing the entire CPD under the bus and you must politely refuse. And by the way, can he share the evidence that he has on his documented "blue code of silence" so the rest of us could start using it.

Otherwise, shut the fuck up and stop wasting space here.

The voters in this town are ridiculous. The people of his ward couldn't find someone without a conviction for an armed felony? The rest of us couldn't find a mayoral candidate with ten fingers and a soul to vote for?

Journalsm is hard indeed. I mean if you went to Northwestern University, you had to watch a live sex show as part of a class, learn how to frame innocent people and get the guilty out of prison while offering sex to the convict, explore your "white privilege" and learn to make decisions while knowing everything you do is racist, kiss the asses of all of your communist professors and parrot their words so you can pass the class, learn class guilt because your parents sent you to a rich school instead of redistributing the wealth they earned to the masses, and do drugs to make it easier to accept that you have given up your soul to communism. How good do you think your research skills are when you hit the real world for that unpaid internship position?

Speaking of gun stores. I will never shop at Shore Galleries because they are assholes. You go in there and ask a question and they talk down to you, they are condescending and arrogant. So fuck em. I always give a business a pass for bad service, rude service, etc. But after it happened multiple times I gave up on them. I did paper for a batter on a security guard (he was armed). He asked me a bunch of questions and he asked what gun store I recommend. So I told him but I also told him not to go to Shore Galleries. He then told me he had the same experience. He asked the guy at Shore's how do I know if I put too much lubrication on my gun? The clerk told him: if you can't figure that out on your own then you should think twice about carrying around a gun for a living and then he followed with let me explain it to you the way I would with my 14 year old cousin.... They are assholes over there, don't give them your business.

P.S. My partner went over there and asked the guy a question about oc spray. The clerk told him why do you need oc spray, are you afraid to fight with your own two hands? That is typical Shore Galleries mentality- insult your customers while making a buck off them.

At a time like this, it’s easy to blame guns for what happened and call for drastic measures in hopes of preventing this kind of violence from occurring again. But the reality is that no law can prevent a determined individual from taking human lives. Even if we banned guns entirely, the reality is that someone’s just going to invent, manufacture, and use a high-powered knife launcher to commit mass murder.

So did Sears Roebuck, Montgomery Wards, and the S&H Green Stamp redemption center up in Wieboldt's.

BREAKING NEWS - Its Gonna Happen:

Breaking news at this hour: "Chicago Tonight” has learned that Gov. Bruce Rauner and top Republican leaders are planning to introduce legislation aimed at an emergency financial takeover of the city of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools. This comes in light of an imminent $500 million shortfall within the Chicago Public Schools system.

The Republican leaders are set to announce the legislation tomorrow, but Paris Schutz has the exclusive information tonight.

Sources tell “Chicago Tonight” that the governor and his top two legislative leaders – Senate minority leader Christine Radogno and House minority leader Jim Durkin will file a package of legislation Wednesday that would allow for an emergency financial oversight board appointed by the state to take over the financially strapped school district. Other legislation would allow for emergency financial oversight of the credit-beleaguered city of Chicago.

Legislation would also allow for CPS and the city of Chicago to declare bankruptcy – something by law both cannot currently do.

We’re also told that the legislation would call for an elected Chicago Public Schools board once the financial situation is remediated. This comes in light of the fact that CPS has set now as a deadline to receive $500 million in relief from the state or else it will lay off thousands of employees, including teachers.

So far, no pink slips have gone out.

I asked the governor today if that left bankruptcy as the only other option to save the entire system from failing. The governor hinted at big new efforts at relief for CPS, but did not get into specifics.

“I’m very concerned about the trajectory of where we’re going for CPS,” Rauner said. “We are going to take action to protect the school children so they have good access to teachers, and effective children. We’re going to protect the children and the taxpayers too. We’re in heated negotiations right now. I won’t go into further detail.”

The governor went on to say he couldn’t guarantee CPS layoffs wouldn’t happen.

Neither the governor’s office nor Radogno and Durkin are confirming the details of this plan.

It would have to pass the Democratic-controlled General Assembly. Lawmakers are currently not scheduled to return to Springfield until next Wednesday.

Say bye bye to VRI!

Ervin pegged the cost at $700 to $1,000 per Taser and between $8.75 million and $12.5 million for the entire force. Training the roughly 80 percent of Chicago Police officers who are still not certified in how to use Tasers would raise the price tag even more.

Ervin, vice-chairman of the City Council’s Budget Committee, said that the cost could easily be absorbed by shaving the $100 million in annual police overtime used to mask a manpower shortage with no results to show for it.

“When we deem something necessary, we put the resources behind it. I’m not concerned about the cost. The lawsuits [stemming from allegations of wrongful death and excessive force] cost us a helluva lot more,” he said.

Four mutts shot this afternoon by Du Sable. So the answer according to the liberals is support politicians who want to limit our protections under the bill of rights to resolve the societal and cultural problem THEY largely caused. Unacceptable and it will not be tolerated. We have plenty of gun laws, lets start enforcing them.

If this goes through I hope he sells thousands. There will be scores up in arms about "blood in the streets." Perhaps if it's people that are doing stupid things to bring society down it will make the world a bit safer for the rest of us.

Gun ranges in Chicago?

Chicago already has two large, outdoor ranges for any weapon and caliber and are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AND - they are both free-of-charge.

You should know that.

They are called the South and West sides.

Blue Code of Silence? Whatever the he'll that is pales in comparison and seriousness compared to the "Black Code of Silence",
You know that code that is never addressed by phoney Priests, Black
Politicians, mail order Reverunds and the current embarrassment that currently occupies the White House. That Code of Silence allows murderers to go free and commit hundreds of other murders. Any comment BLM, the various Black Caucuses, Ms Prepwincle, Karen Lewis or any other of the leaders of the Black Community.......
The silence is deafening.

I would travel into the city to support this store if it actually happens even though I am a stones throw from Maxon. The city has screwed its own law abiding citizens for far too long. Plus it would be fun to watch father Pleghm's head of explode.

It is so common in discussions about "why would someone want to go here or there for this or that.." no one considers there are plenty of down town residents that aren't traveling .... the service is coming to them. I completely understand why someone may not come downtown because of higher prices and sales tax. But the reason we live a 15 minute walk to work is because we value our time differently. I may not like paying a higher price either, but I'm not going to make a trip out to the suburbs to save $100 on something.

Would not patronize it due to the high tax that would have to be paid for guns and ammo and the BS purchasing regulations. I'll just drive out to the 'burbs.

Cabela's in Hoffman estates, Mega-Sports in Plainfield are just two places which offer a wide variety of firearms. Over the border in Indiana there is Blythe's in Griffith & Valpo. Also Cabela's in Highland. Indiana is my preferred state to buy but for long guns (rifle & shotgun) only. If you're a Illinois resident and want to buy a pistol you have to do a FFL transfer to a store in IL, lot of hassle, time, & money.

Buy a firearm in Chicago? Pay the 10% Sales Tax and all the other bullshit that goes with it? When Pigs Fly....

Legislation would also allow for CPS and the city of Chicago to declare bankruptcy – something by law both cannot currently do.
==============
Since the pension mess in Chicago can't be cleaned up by Illinois due to the bizarre constitutional clause prohibiting any rational fix, it is probably best for the federal bankruptcy courts to do it. They are used to working with this kind of financial mess. They were able to handle the Detroit mess pretty cleanly.

My guess is Rahm and Madigan will stomp their feet and claim it is all those bad Republicans who are doing this, while arranging enough D votes in the legislature so it passes.

St Paul MN Sergeant is suspended and going to be fired for a Facebook post on his own account on his own time.
He suggested that motorists run over the BLM protesters if they block the roads.
They blocked a bridge between Minneapolis and St Paul today.

I guess police officers have no 1st Amendment Rights?

BREAKING NEWS - Its Gonna Happen:

"Breaking news at this hour: "Chicago Tonight” has learned that Gov. Bruce Rauner and top Republican leaders are planning to introduce legislation aimed at an emergency financial takeover of the city of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools. ."

OK.. "Mr. It's Gonna Happen" .. He is where you are lacking in your reading skills.
You missed the LAST sentence:

"It would have to pass the Democratic-controlled General Assembly. Lawmakers are currently not scheduled to return to Springfield until next Wednesday."

Now go back to reading comic books in your Reading 101 class.

If he represented himself as a "St Paul Police Officer" he does not have a case.

If he is just a private citizen he has a case.

ANYONE who states he is a copper on Facebook is a moron.

@0113
The 1st Amendment does not have anything to do with employment. Its protection from government persecution and arrest...not work environment. Also, assuming you're a cop you should know that he poses a lot of liability if someone actually does it. I don't know about being fired but he definitely is lacking the common sense a supervisor should have.

To the asshat saying that property taxes are high in the suburbs. Yeah they are but not by much and the biggest point you get more services for those taxes. Can you say " no private school tuition." Some of the schools in the west and northwest suburbs are the best in the country. Not the state, the COUNTRY. So would i pay a couple G's more a year (my taxes rival suburban taxes anyway and im sure most coppers living on the sw and nw sides are closing in on those suburban rates), to save the 15k/yr for Loyola H.S. Plus our once quiet neighborhoods are starting to be not so quiet anymore. Stop trolling for the city....

One size doesn't fit all, 1116hrs. Lots of us don't have to consider tuition at Loyola high school, or any school. A friend in Orland pays thirteen thousand in r.e. taxes. I pay a LOT less here. Each of us has different needs and priorities.

Stats in an earlier post show Chiraq residents shooting with less than a 20% kill rate, so a local practice range could raise that pathetic number and help clear the gene pool faster. Not that the denizens in question would use the range. This is hypothetical, you understand - like, "I had a dream" kind of thing.

The problem is, if the store were EVER to actually open, the owner's insurance premiums would skyrocket into the stratosphere in no time flat.
