Who Gets the Two?

Killed in Chicago, dumped in the burbs:
  • Robert Danno and Jose Fernardo Martinez-Hernandez barely looked at each other as a prosecutor described how Danno allegedly strangled his wife and his 79-year-old mother-in-law in their Southwest Side home, then drove the bodies to a suburban forest preserve and set them on fire.

Martinez-Hernandez fought back tears as Judge Kerry Kennedy ordered the two men held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and concealing a homicide in the killing Saturday of Mary Ann Urban-Danno and her mother, Theresa Urban. Standing just a few feet away, Danno, dressed in a baggy blue T-shirt, was impassive.

Detectives said Danno and Martinez-Hernandez lived together in the basement of a house in the 5600 block of South Neenah Avenue on the Southwest Side, a home they shared with Urban-Danno and her mother, who had dementia. On Saturday, Urban-Danno went to the basement and argued with her husband, who wrestled her to the floor with Martinez-Hernandez, authorities said.
With this level of detail, we're assuming the got videotaped confessions and it's pretty much a slam dunk at this point. But as has his investigators on it and there probably wasn't a Chicago RD number pulled except in relation to processing the scene with the County, who gets the two killings?

We hear the wheels turning in Rahm's head.

On body dump(s), if it can be conclusively proven that the actual murder(s) occurred in a different jurisdiction, the latter venue should be charged with the homicide(s). Otherwise, the murder(s) will be charged to the dump site location. The location of lividity on the corpse(s) could also prove interesting, if not conclusive.

Chicago PD (008) +2

A hypothetical on Roosevelt Road: The shooter fires from the 011 sidewalk, fatally striking the vic across the street on the 010 sidewalk where he collapses. Which district/detective area gets the murder?

McStreet Light Assassin hit the EASY button, and instituted a new column heading of NOT CONFIRMED. The number 2 in the new column has no impact on the total number of confirmed murders for 2013. See? Easy.

They are still trying not to classify as murder the woman and kid unfortunately killed in the fire on the southside a couple of days ago. Even though OFI and B&A both labeled the fire as "suspicious", since arson was not directly declared yet they stay as death investigations, when everyone knows these are homicides.

Word on the street is that if you kill someone and drag them over the border into another city, Rahmbolina will pick up 50% of your attorney's fees, Mc Stupe will kick in 25%, and 25% will be left up to the public defender.

New billboards going up:

Kill 'em here, we don't care! Just don't leave 'em here so we have to count 'em!

SCC - Since the act took place within the Chicago city limits, we're counting it towards Chicago's homicide count. This brings Sept up to 32 homicides and 335 on the year. YTD is now higher than 2011 or 2009. Whoops.

This was brought up about a month ago on SCC that McCarthy was going to try to fudge the homicide numbers. Looks like he found a way to do it. I've been a detective for almost 12 years and I have never seen such a blatant attempt to fudge homicides. There used to be strict rules about reporting these and like it or not the bosses did stick by the rules. Apparently not so anymore.

SCC, you know the rule has always been wherever the body lies gets the X.

That's why the old wagon men use to push the floater across the river. also there was no money in morgue runs and who wants to get wet for free?

The men admitted to strangling the women in their home in Chicago. It all depends on if the the strangling killed them then its Chicagos murders, if the fire killed them then its not.
