Where's the "Safe Passage?"

  • A student was injured in a shooting near a Northwest Side high school Wednesday afternoon and the shooter is reportedly in custody, according to Chicago Police

The shooting happened about 2:25 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Kimball, said Chicago Police [...] [D]epartment spokesman. It was near Roosevelt High School at 3436 W. Wilson.
Where is that poor child's Safe Passage route? Isn't anyone thinking of the children???

And where is this guy's Safe Passage?
  • Darnell D. Hamilton has big plans for college, but getting to and from high school every day has been difficult, his family says.

Since he was a freshman, gangs have been threatening him as he takes two CTA lines from his Logan Square home to Urban Prep Charter Academy on the West Side, according to his mother, LaDonna Petty. "They wait for him when he gets off the train," she said.

Finally, Hamilton, 17, got a gun from a friend and brought it to school Tuesday, according to Chicago police and his family. Someone saw the weapon and reported it to the principal, who called police.
He had to create his own Safe Passage because Rahm is neglecting him, you know, not thinking of the children again. After all, Rahm pretty much promised every single child a free ride and escort to school.

rahm and garry are in denial. the gangs run the city. the gangs decide if you can sit on your own porch or walk in the park. the gangs decide if you get to have an iphone, ipad, laptop, wallet or keys.

the jails are full and the crooks know it. the city, county, and state are busted and the crooks know it.

rahm blows 55 million on maggie daley parks and the governor blows hundreds of thousands of dollars on remodeling to keep up appearances, to keep up with the jones's.

what da ya think...think they can push off the pension reform until after election so that the voters that are impacted have two, four, six years to forgetaboutit so they will get re-elected again.

You mean he chose to keep and bear arms to protect himself in a city that socialists let run rampant with crime? Didn't he understand that the intellectual elite should run his life for him? How dare he think and act for himself when there is a government official to do it for him!

Rahm and his safe passage bullshit.
He's throwing ridiculous amounts of city resources into only select (ie ghetto) neighborhoods. He's basically saying to Hell with the non ghetto neighborhoods they can fend for theirselves.

I guess when you have so many cops down on "safe passage" routes which cover around 1% of the city, that makes the rest of the 99% of the city an "UNsafe passage".... Who's covering that?.... NOBODY!!!!

Uh...See 4th Paragraph --> '....Authorities went to the junior's locker and found a 9 mm handgun...'

Btw, I also graduated at 17 (Kelly HS '66) -- 2 mo's shy of 18 -- but many or most of my classmates were 18, so was my wife when she graduated (Kelly HS '68) and decades later, our 2 girls (DG North HS).

Ergo, Darnell was right on track, age to class year.

Who's going to protect the CPS students from their own teachers???

Lane's PE /Teacher/Head of the PE Dept. Edward Nobiling had what he called "Karate Chop Friday" and gave each kid a karate chop in his class(es).

(FYI: According to the Better Government Association's Public Employees Salary Database, Nobiling earned $76,484.17 and the Family Taxpayers Organization says he earned $83,338 in 2012.)

Nobiling 'chopped' a female student in one of his classes and she called her brother after the incident. Her brother came to Lane and confronted Nobiling. A security guard got in the middle of the confrontation and defused the problem. However, the female student and her brother filed charges against Nobiling. I'm not sure if the charges were filed with CPS or the CPD.

This is the same Edward Nobiling who's living outside Chicago (in Antioch, IL) in clear violation of the CPS Residency Policy. Nobiling isn't 'grandfathered-in' as he was hired after November 20, 1996. And, since, Nobiling was hired as a Chicago resident and not a non-Chicago resident in a 'special need basis subject area', he doesn't qualify for a 2-yr. residency waiver to allow him to reside outside Chicago.

please don't think this kid is a victim. Mama is only using this as an excuse for why her "baby" got caught. Look at his sheet and you'll see that he's not a victim here. He said he forgot he had it in his pocket. That's on the same path of the "these aren't my pants" line.

Notice how they describe the kid at Roosevelt H.S. as "injured", when in fact he was SHOT! Injured can be tripping over the curb, being shot is a whole different kind of injury.

Hey, brain dead. The police force you speak of is thousands of officers short because of those socialist politicians that have you brain washed. They can't keep up with the calls for service, nor can they effectively police any longer because of idiotic socialist engineered policies.

Now get yourself ready to vote for Rahm again. He has done such a splendid job with this city thus far. Asshat.

To the genius who "graduated HS at 17", it was bad writing. Maybe it should have read "(Ever) since he was a freshman..."
If you took the time to click on the link to the Tribune article, you would have found that he is now a junior. Not in your class, but not a freshman.
Just sayin'.

He needs a good lawyer to plea
the necessity defense.

God knows Chicago has the homicides by gang members (not guns) to support this strategy.

His mistake is trying to survive in Rahm and McGoofs city of thugs and violence.

Beat 1070, Sgt R.F., came over Zone 10 yesterday and exclaimed he had "six for violation of safe passage". Another one of his pearls of wisdom. What ordinance was violated? What is the charge? Shortly thereafter, Bt 1070 then scolded and then admonished on the air a 010th District officer who was opening up traffic after a fire in the 011th District. The officer was reminded only supervisory personnel can open up the street and his conterpart, Bt 1130 afternoons, was going to assess the situation at hand. Both 1070 and 1130 have the common practice of demeaning officers and dispatchers on a regular basis. Maybe they should be concerned if those whom they command actually respect and trust their abilities in a supervisory capacity. Bt 1070, the department has codes like 19-paul for a disposition of assignments not a drawn out narrative tying up the airwaves with your less than impressive muti-syllable wording and fairy tales.

Just bad reading... SINCE he was a freshman. This means this kid has been fighting continuous pressure to join the gang for at least 3years. This is that kid that we all talk about on here and say they don't exist. Kid didn't join a gang, went to school, and just got tired of being fucked with. Dont know details or kids background. But from the posted article, that s what I read.

Perhaps you should have stayed in school a tad bit longer. The mother is quoted as saynig "since he was a freshman" then goes on to say "finally he got a gun from a friend" (passage of time).

to the principal, who called police.

What about the security problems at last week's Simeon/Lane Tech Football game at Lane Stadium. I was told close to 1000 people were kept out of the game after someone (CPS Security?) closed or locked the gate to the stadium and weren't allowing more fans into or out of the stadium, including not allowing the Lane's Homecoming Queen to enter until someone allowed the 'overflow' crowd to sit in the visitor stands on the west side of Lane Stadium. Here's a link to Lane's PTSO website, which has letters from Lane's Principal and a Mr. Trotter from CPS:

http://www.lanetechptso.org/Pages/default.aspx

Every high school I know has most of their staff (especially administrators) working in crowd control/security roles in the stands, gate, parking lot, other areas outside the stadium, etc. at homecoming football games. Lane has 5 APs to go along with their principal, 200+ teachers, and whole bunch of staffers working in leadership positions. Why is the handling of the overcrowded stands and the security problems for Lane's homecoming game being blamed soley on CPS Security? I mean, GEEZ! Lane Stadium is right next to Lane, not like all other CPS high schools in comparison to Hanson, Gately, Rockne, Eckersall, etc.

It seems Lane's leadership dropped the ball here, especially when the gates were LOCKED to the stadium and 1000 stood outside while game was going on. Why did it take so long for someone to send part of Lane's crowd to the west stands, where a sprinkling of Simeon fans were sitting?

It's a good thing nobody got hurt. Or did anyone get hurt? Does anyone have any info. on this?

That sucks smh. Going to Foreman HS from 2008-2012 were some very rough years for my self and I often stashed a knife along my route to and from school until about 2011 until we moved to the North Austin neighborhood and I began taking the Cicero bus to and from school with friends. The crazy part is there were LOTS of police that surrounded the school everyday and the immediate area. Luckily I graduated with out ever having to use a weapon. Lots of big fights that regularly made the news... and made students easy targets after school during my time there.

I've heard Foreman aswell as the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood has calmed down, I do vaguely remember hearing gun shots almost every night a few years ago.

Im a teacher and there is no way in hell I would work as crowd control for anyone other than my student s after 3pm ish. Not because I'm lazy or greedy, but because if something happens, what am I supposed to do. I have no legal authority and the city and cps wont back me up. Hell they don't even back up their security staff when they break up fights. Ill keep my job and supposed pension thank you very much. Good idea, but no.
