Let's Ban Everything....Just Because...

Monday, the nation suffered a tragedy at a Naval Yard in Maryland when a gunman killed a dozen people. Before the bodies had even assumed room temperature, in fact, before all the bodies had even been recovered from the scene, the anti-gun crowd was in full swing trying to steer the narrative, demanding AR-15's be banned, gun controls be unilaterally implemented across the board, and demanding the NRA say something to justify yet another mass shooting.

In fact, CNN, which has spent so much time carry water for Obama that they are renaming themselves the Gunga Din Network, couldn't even remember the last time such an act had occurred on a military base:
  • CAROL COSTELLO: I used to work in Washington, live in Washington. This seems so unusual to me that a gunman could create this kind of havoc at a U.S. military facility.

    BRIAN TODD: Yes.

COSTELLO: Have you ever heard of it happening before, Brian?

TODD: I'm sorry, Carol. I missed that question. Could you repeat it please?

COSTELLO: I was just saying that this is so unusual, because this is such a heavily-secured military facility. I've worked in Washington for many years, I've never heard of such a thing happening.
Well, we suppose when you've been pretending that the Fort Hood Massacre in 2009 was just an incident of "workplace violence" and not a terrorist attack, anything can be new and different to you.

Then it really started to get surreal.

NBC and CBS started reporting a named suspect was being sought, after getting caught up in the same hype as during the Boston manhunt, which once again, turned out to be completely wrong. Then CNN started going on about an "AR-15 shotgun" being used along with two pistols, and then finally, a bit of truth over 24 hours later:
  • The only AR-15 style weapon used was the one police killed the gunman with;
Used in the massacre? A Remington 870 shotgun, the exact shotgun deployed by thousands of police departments and armies worldwide (and advocated for by VP "Shoot thru the door" Biden), and two pistols that he stole from his first victims. So we need to ban rifles?  How does that work again?

Something must have failed somewhere, right? It's not like this guy had a criminal record, right?

Oh yeah, he did. Two separate shooting incidents that might have clued someone in to his mental instability. 2004 in Fort Worth Texas and 2010 in Seattle - what we would call Reckless Discharge or Aggravated Assaults. Neither incident was prosecuted.

And the mental instability charge we make? He was "hearing voices" for the past few years, had self-admitted anger issues, paranoia, sleep disorders and had a Navy record that ought to have raised a few red flags over his owning a gun.

In fact, Virgina background checks kept him from even getting the AR-15 he wanted.

But here comes Feinstein and the Bloomberg groups and the parents of murdered children to Washington to point out to everyone that.....what.....just about everything worked as intended except the part about keeping guns from the mentally ill, something the NRA has advocated for years, but gun groups want attached to a barge full of other nonsensical rules that serve only to disarm the law abiding?

Opportunists, one and all, making their stand on the still cooling bodies of the victims.

This is how Washington creates a diversion from their failures.

This guy had a top secrete clearance right? How about a background for that!. Yeah, I know, I know.

Nevertheless here is a man with a top secrete clearance and access to the US Navy internal computer network. What if instead of shooting up the place he decided to hack the computers instead? Could you imagine what kind of damage this mentally unstable guy could of created in the gulf. He could of set off ww-iii

Naw...quick...let's get the media on the gun control bandwagon instead...quick before anyone begins to think about the consequences of this political regime's failures.

SCC, you have to stop thinking so selfishly and start thinking of our children and their futures. A total ban is in order. We must start today to work on getting a total ban of nanny state liberals. Once we achieve that objective, we need to overhaul the education system to develop personal responsibility, not dependency. Self control, and a feeling that duty is something to aspire to, not run from. Thankfully, nanny-stators are a doomed lot because they are not the smartest people in the room.

'Heavily secured facility'? News reported that location does NOT search (or at least it didn't up til now) people or vehicles.

Not that you can really stop an insane person from harming others, regardless of what weapon he chooses to use. He just would have chosen a different location to do it.

According to the Washington Times, as linked by Drudge, there is no state law preventing him from purchasing an AR. He just didn't buy one. Perhaps he couldn't afford it or he liked shotguns. Either way, condolences to the family of the slain.

Your guess would be wrong. There are man, many liberal gun owners. They just don't want YOU to own a gun. Look at Alderman Mell. The funny thing is, they don't see or they don't care about the hypocrisy of that.

With liberals, it's all about controlling your actions. They, the elite, are exempt. They know what is best for all of us. They are the smartest person in the room always. Sound familiar?

He had a SECRET clearance, not a TOP SECRET. And a SECRET means not a whole lot. Back in the day when I was involved in such things, units would call asking for briefings for different locations. They would then be asked "at what clearance level would you like the briefing to be?"

If the answer was SECRET they were referred to the local newspapers.

Off Topic, but I wish to thank the three civilians and the one PO that I dealt with on Tuesday down at the Human Resources (Personnel) Section.

I had a rather personal issue to deal with, and they were great, seemed to care, polite and it took about 1/2 the time I thought it would take.

Posters on this blog seem to revel in chiding the 35th Street people, civilians and cops. Don't use a cookie cutter approach, there are good and bad apples everywhere.

To those who like to rip the desk people in the districts---Work the desk steady for a week and see if you still feel that way.

The desk works the hardest, they can't just not deal with the people that come in and keep coming in. A desk like 025, 011, 007 or any other shit district is always rocking.

I'd much rather work the street than deal with the paperwork that the SS is supposed to do, nuts, piss bums, phone calls from relatives in lockup, etc.

Years ago background checks were done by FBI agents. However the Post 9/11 shortage has created a sub-contract business where civilians in some cases with no law enforcement experience are doing these critical background checks. Recently I was a reference to someone pursuing a Top Secret Clearance and was interviewed by one of these people, and their questions were not impressive. These are the people who dropped the ball. Prior arrests for clearly violent acts regardless of dispositions should have excluded Alexis from his Clearance.

When he was killed all he had was a pistol which he took from the guard he killed. The shotgun was dumped on the first floor office area when he ran out of shells. Going in we knew there was just one gun man from info gathered from workers running out of the building. The media went bananas with this and created their own facts just to get the ratings up. ...and so the plot thickens.

via bbc...

Washington DC's Capitol Police have ordered a review into a BBC report that an armed police team was ordered not to respond to Monday's mass shooting.

A tactical response team from the force was told by a supervisor to leave the scene instead of aiding municipal officers, police sources told the BBC.

The Capitol Police sources suggest they could have saved lives had they been allowed to go in.

***

[...]...About 8:15 local time (12:15 GMT), Alexis entered Building 197 at the installation and launched his attack.

Armed with a shotgun and a pistol he took from a guard he had shot, he sprayed bullets down a hallway and fired from a balcony down on to workers in an atrium. He also fired on police officers who stormed the building, and was later killed in the shootout.

Multiple sources in the Capitol Police department, which guards the US Capitol complex, have told the BBC that its highly trained and heavily armed four-man Containment and Emergency Response Team (Cert) was near the Navy Yard when the initial report of an active shooter came in at about 8:20 local time.

The officers, wearing full tactical gear and armed with HK-416 assault weapons, arrived outside Building 197 a few minutes later, an official with knowledge of the incident told the BBC.

According to a Capitol Police source, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Washington DC's main municipal force, told the Capitol Cert officers they were the only police on the site equipped with long guns, and requested their help stopping the gunman.

When the Capitol Police team radioed their superiors, they were told by a watch commander to leave the scene, the BBC was told....

A "secret" security clearance isn't anything special and is granted at the front door of your mos/job. That title just lets you in the door.

With all the dumping of personnel costs to the national guard (clinton), then later, to private businesses (contractors), it lessens what little scrutiny there is to get a secret clearance.

We get what we vote for. What will be funny is if the "new" new, scrutiny of non military personnel doing work on us bases....what exactly shall we do with all those illegals again? Again?

So so much much new new so often, repeatedly so, that it's boringly obnoxious.

Anyone know if the bears will finally get over the lovie legacy?

Regarding the FOP meeting yesterday, I am curious why no one brought up the attorney's role in the Retro fiasco as well as the arbitration loser for acting Desk Sgts. Not to diminish the board's role in this cluster, but why didn't anyone ask why Paul Geiger, our in-house attorney, has not been fired?
The answer is Dougherty won't let them. Can we do a no confidence vote on him next meeting?

9/18/2013 08:35:00 AM

I agree, Paul Geiger must go. Shields brothers would never do it cause of blind loyalty. Geiger is a self-serving tool who makes over $200,000 a year and couldn't write a letter to the city? He's the biggest problem at the union. He's already cost us money from his sexual harassment lawsuits and absolutely hates cops but loves our money. Rule Zero Must Go!!!!

Dunno, "slightly a jagoff". Maybe you should ask the guy from whom you purchase your suppositories.

The next FOP board meeting is 08 Oct 2013 at 0900 hrs.
Contact each and every board member (emails are listed on the fop website). Demand that FOP Attorney Paul Geiger be terminated for his failure to give notice to negotiate our contract with the city. He is an at will employee. Enough of the bullshit. Make this board accountable!

OT:

"Cop Killer" Latin King graffiti sprayed on the liquor store wall at 6414 W. Higgins this morning.

It was removed by noon.

Lots of gangbanger Section 8s in apartments on Higgins from Jeff Park to Harlem.

Arm your friends and relatives.

you gotta really love the Monday morning quarterbacks who have never been to a meeting and don't even know where the FOP is. I know you think blogging is the same as a FOP meeting kind of like the old mass for shut ins where you could watch mass on TV.

No, slightly ignorant, it doesn't look like she did.

From Wiki:
"...joined the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia in 1990 as a foot patrolman. In 1994 she was promoted to Sergeant, and, two years later, a Lieutenant, before becoming a patrol supervisor. In 1999, she became a Captain and, later that year, was promoted to Inspector and placed in charge of the Department's Major Narcotics Branch/Gang Crime Unit. In August 2000, she was promoted to Commander-in-Charge of the Fourth District of the city. In April 2006, she became the Commander at the Office of Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism, Office of the Chief of Police in MPDC, overseeing, among other things, the bomb squad and the emergency response team.[2]

She has both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in management from Johns Hopkins University and holds a Master of Arts in national security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; her thesis was Preventing Terror Attacks in the Homeland: A New Mission for State and Local Police."
(All this, after a rough start as an unwed mother with a GED.)

9/18/2013 07:12:00 PM

I have secret clearance. No it doesn't take rocket science to get one. Yes, I know people with years of service in the military that have deployed overseas and they have not been able to get a secret clearance.

He was allowed all this leeway-- getting his discharge changed, getting hired by a contractor, gun behaviors ignored etc BECAUSE OF HIS SKIN COLOR.
If not for his skin color he would never have been there in the first place.

9/18/2013 09:35:00 AM

I guess the same guy that hired GED possessing, lying on his resume,no college attending Edward Snowden(white) must have hired him too.

9/18/2013 05:04:00 PM

Nope. They just hired him because of his skin color too...they thought he was black. His name is close to Eric Snow from the NBA.

Carlos Cortez, clueless and classless, as always, kept taking the mike at the FOP meeting, to pat himself on the back for his service as a Department Chaplain. Exactly, how many Mormon coppers are there? He ran that scam for over ten years. Does' nt your arm get tired from all the self back patting? Disability Dean Angeli, went from the FOP board, to Duty Disability, to a full time job st Calumet College. If you don't like Shields, don't vote for him, but keep these two opportunists away from our union. They are rumored to be in cahoots with the disgraced former board member Harold Brown, to make as much trouble as they can for Shields. Brown is the King of the Snakes, and should not be anywhere near the FOP.

There was a guy in Office after Clinton who could have very easily reversed the Cinton action, and didn’t. I don’t hear HIM being blamed for his INACTION. (Benghazi)

Before the Clinton anti-gun order there were few guns carried by average soldiers, sailors, and airmen except those on drill or in exercises. Weapons are kept at the armory. They definitely weren’t in non-mission office buildings except for when there was some kind of ceremony or exercise; and then probably not loaded or loaded with blanks. This shooting was in an aquisition building where there are few active duty personnel, most are civilians, Mitre PHD's, and contracting officers; generally not the type you want carrying sidearms (untrained) and usually not the firearm type of personality (scared or just not interested in guns). So, my point here is that even with personal carry few would actually carry, and a handful of sailors with pistols against a shooter with a rifle; the shooter still would have killed a good number of people.

The fact of the matter is Marine Corps bases were gun-free DECADES before Bill Clinton, from the early 70's on, that we've personally experienced. ALL weapons were in the armoris, up to and including (per regulation) those personal weapons of folks RESIDING IN BASE HOUSING. NOT the barracks. BASE HOUSING.

If you wanted to hunt, etc., you had to hit the armory up when it was open, go kill something and then hot foot it back there ~ often with an explanation to the MP at the gate, if he snagged you coming in ~ before they shut up again.

Clinton makes a snappy retort, but it was that way long before he grabbed a pen for effect.

My uncle served in the Army from ’74 to ’78, and personally owned guns were NOT allowed on post except with the CO's written permission, and had to be stored in the company arms room, except when being taken to or from the range, or off post. No way was anybody EVER allowed to carry a loaded weapon.

Just some facts to get your morning right.

Gun free zones ........The bill, Clinton introduced to keep service members in the military on post to keep them from having their firearms on them should be revoked. Less would have died if this were the case.

9/18/2013 10:27:00 AM
This is completely incorrect. The Gun Free Zone Safety Act was signed into law by President Bush in 1990. One part was declared unconstitutional and that part stricken in 1996, It was re-passed by a GOP controlled house and was reigned by Clinton in 1996. Bans on weapons at military bases came in a directive from the undersecretary of defense Donald Atwood for Bush Sr in 1992. Get your facts right...

This is an eloquent statement of fact. Its so sad that the system was an epic fail once again. I'm really glad my name wasn't on any of this shooter's medical records. This story has already started to die a thousand deaths because the police officers were the only ones with the AR-15s. The media today is such an abomination. It does not speak well of us or for us. Having worked on military installations, on which shooting occurred, I am just astounded that the people who are trained to use weapons are not required to carry them to work. How may shootings have we had in police precinct buildings in the last 10 years?

this is so simple. i am a bit shocked that the solution is not obvious to you second city cops. there should have been a SAFE PASSAGE ZONE through the navy yard! active shooter, no problem. simply step within the SP Zone and you will not be shot. there are signs posted that indicate your safe position, and no mentally ill person will be able to reconcile the logic and therefore move on.
