Cops Injured in Crash

A lot of this going around - aging fleet problems again?
  • Three Chicago Police officers were hospitalized Sunday night after they were involved in a crash on the Far South Side.

The crash occurred in the 10000 block of South State just before 8:30 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

All three were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in good condition, fire media said.

Just a bit rattled. Quick recovery to all involved.

Driver error??? Properly maintained vehicles will last a long time and many give years of safe service. It's good the officers were not seriously injured.

Remember the end game, get home safely to your families each and every night. Get well to all Officers involved in both incidents.

Maybe both geniuses who posted above should find out the details before opening their mouths. Their sgt was involved in shots fired by the police. Maybe we can get a lesson from all the monday morning quarterbacks. Un-fucking believable.

Why isn't FOP addressing the issue of our aging and dilapidated vehicles and equipment?

Why isn't FOP addressing the issue of an aging fleet? Why isn't FOP addressing any of our issues?

Hit the fucking brakes hard and the siren sounds...

And that's the least beat to shit one we could find.

Remember when bosses used to lose their minds about the "Ghetto Police" driving rust eaten, crash damaged squads with entire body panels stripped of paint down to bare metal downtown?

"I ought to write you guys up for failing to properly maintain Department equipment! Take this car and get it washed and put some hubcaps on it!"

The rust and dirt was holding the m/fer together!

Just a little info that I hope helps some others. I was on for 19 years. I came on the job at 22, worked a fast district and gave it all I had. I allowed injuries to accumulate and never thought twice about them. They were just a nuisance that kept me from working side jobs. I slowed down once I was married and had two children, but occasionally still found ways to get injured on duty. Fast forward to my early 40's. I am in a Unit, out on a surveillance when I'm hit from behind by a texting douchebag with fly by night insurance. My injuries require a spinal fusion. It fails and I run out of medical time waiting for the City to approve the second spinal fusion. I am forced to go in front of the Pension Board looking for Duty Disability. The Pension Board ignores my other THIRTY SIX (36) IOD's, including 9 other car crashes. They find my injuries are the result of a "previous condition". Not even allowed to argue that if there were a previous condition, it likely came from one of those other 36 injuries!!!!

I feel fortunate to at least have been granted 50% duty disability as I await the results of an MRI to see if I need fusion #3 to ease the pain and try and get healthy again. Fortunate, but furious that there are people getting 75% for carpal fucking tunnel while my life has been ruined.

Moral of this long, drawn out story: take care of yourself! Don't be young and dumb like I was. This job is great fun until it's not, and, no secret, the City could not care less about you.

Please stay safe! Every injury matters later in life! All of mine were documented and I still got fucked in the end.
