Everything worked out fine!

Thank goodness for small favors.

And don't pay any attention to that dead body they found off the Safe Passage route. He was killed sometime the night before, so no worries

The simple fact of these "Safe Passages" is a monumental embarrassment to Chicago!

Royko would have field day with this.

Can we get 1 single fucking reporter to stick a damn microphone in a politicians face, and ask how they allowed this city to get so bad, how they allowed this to be okay?

I guess we really do live in Shitcago.

Really people, gang banging kids are dictating to adult political decisions?

So who is figuring out the cost per day on this fiasco?

Besides the 600+ city workers they put on this, they also hired a lot of people.

So how much is it costing - all this wasted city manpower along with all these new-hires who basically only have to stand around?

HEY - I got an idea. Why not put all the families who get LINK Card and other benefits on the job - since they don't have a job, and then we can get some use out of them for all the money we send them a month. You get LINK Card and other benefits? Report in the morning from 6AM - 9AM EVERY day.

WOW - that is so brilliant why didn't Rahm think of that?

No Mike Royko's -- the reporters today are more like little star-struck groupies and cheerleaders wanting to rub elbows with the political elite.

So let me get this straight; I'm the racist pig when I arrest Pooky for crimes I witness as a Police Officer but the city is exempt from similar behavior? Racism is being shoved down our throats and our only response is "thanks Rahm?"

My neighborhood got no special treatment. There is no signage informing us of a "Safe Passage Zone" anywhere to be found: by the way, that would also imply that there is a crime problem and these signs help junior navigate thru the jungle, safely. I tried to get my 'gift card' when picking up my kids' report cards and the teachers looked at me like I was crazy. I was told no such program exists but the news told me differently: $50 Target cards were being handed out to help get parents involved in their kids' lives. Sidewalks being redone, assets being wasted/abused, handouts after handouts, free this, free that and I'm the racists? Man, are we I for a beating.

The very fact that we even have all of these signs throughout our city is an embarrassment. I mean just what does it mean? Does the mayor and city think that these gang bangers and thugs will respect that sign? We have laws against no dope dealing and no guns by felons within 1000 feet of a school. Yet that is a dismal failure too.

This entire thing is both so hillarious and so sad on so many levels.

1. If you have to plaster the city with so many Safe Passage signs, if that isn't a defacto admission that we need to hire more police officers, I don't know what is.

2. We give the catered-to-constituency Section 8, link cards, food stamps, free cell phones, free health care and on and on. Now they want us to walk their kids to school too? FUCK THAT. Tell them to quit partying all day and nite, get their lazy fucking asses out of bed, and take care of their own damn children.

3. We're going to pay civilians $10 an hour to be on the Safe Passage routes. FUCK THAT. Hey, you want a welfare check, why don't you show up and do that shit FOR FREE. After all, y'all supports yo community, don't ya? Sheeeeit.

4. We're going to pull firemen out of the firehouse to do a job they were neither trained nor equipped to do? FUCK THAT. Yet another defacto admission we need to hire more police. Hey Rahm, I hope your fucking house burns, asshole.

The good news is that the shitheads can always be counted on to fuck shit up, or in this case, come to the rescue. You see, it is only a matter of time...inevitable...before some shitbird fucks some shit up, right on a Safe Passage route, and the media will have a field day with it. (Bill O'Reilly, Fox News, are you listening?) And then it will happen again. And Again.

The entire thing will become the millstone around the neck of Rham's political career, and that little socialist prick will be toast.

Department of Revenue ticketing in Garfield Ridge Schools

While our police spouses are in the hood guarding other peoples kids, the department of revenue is ticketing all cars for any and all violations in Garfield Ridge school drop off zones. Yes, I get it-if you don't want the ticket then don't violate the rules but the WHOLE block in some school zones is a permit only parking area. The revenue guy while parked "illegally" ticketed a parent in a no parking zone. We work hard to have what little we have only to be punished for taking our own kids to school. Maybe we should have a safe passage too with staffing so that we don't have to drive either. Before I get slammed that the parent was parked illegally-read above-I get it. A beat car should maybe come ticket the revenue car parked on an angle blocking the traffic in the drop off lane. I wonder how many tickets are issued in Englewood during drop off times? Or at churches on Sundays?

Thank you for all that you do especially for those who do nothing for you.

Stay safe!

What's going to happen when the media attention dies down and kids figure out how to get around this nonsense? If you know CPS and the types of people they hired for this Safe Passage crap, you'll know the aloofness will start to trickle in sooner rather than later.

The cameras should have been inside buildings where there lines of kids and their parents were waiting to take care of school related buiness by skeleton crews of clerks because of budget cuts. Hallways were jammed up from overcrowded schools. Angry displaced teachers and substitutes were covering vacant teaching positions. Air conditioning wasn't working properly and classrooms were saunas. And, a new automated subsitutute teacher calling system which was given to school clerks to master in 1/2 weeks time, this in addition to all the increased workload they have to do because of the budget cuts.

How long are we going to let this welfare state continue??? We would not have the pension crisis or any other financial problems in the states if we demanded that people work if they want a roof over their heads and food in their belly. This class warfare is being designed by the one per centers and it time to revolt. Why is their problems, caused by their lazy dogass self, my problem????? Fuck them, the more you give them the more dependent they become. Why are we enabling a class of people to do nothing and party all day????? It's like we are creating a real life video game for killing, fuckery, rape and any other assorted crime you can think of while getting high. I'm done with this experiment and everyone else should also be done. Problem is that most people's lives are so consumed with work, school and family that they don't have the time to really see how bad their getting fu**ed. Time to see what's really happening or you will be cleaning their house before you know it. They are 13.50 % of the population of the United States and receive 58 % of the welfare distributed in this country, are responsible for 69% of the crime. The current way of dealing with able-bodied lazy fucks has not worked and made the problem only worse. Time to end all forms of welfare, send away anyone who is not a citizen or here on a legal visa and give these people who were elected to represent the people their walking papers and give this country back to it's citizens. We need to get some Vietnamese to help us get these kids to school. They got people and supplies down the Ho Chi Minh trail during 20 years of war while being bombed from the air and bombarded by cannon fire and attacked almost daily by the US military. Still, mostly they got their shit through.

Two separate shootings in Portage Park on Sunday. When will city hall wake up and realize that when violence starts making its way into taxpaying areas, people will not put up with it and leave. This will result in increasing budget deficits as Chicago marches closer and closer to becoming another Detroit. While the mayor continues pouring police resources and money into the ghetto, the priest begins his eulogy for the once great City of Chicago.

The section 8 directly across from the new 12 and a fire department has an indoor swimming pool, brand new skateboarding park, playgrounds and sprinklers on every block, some of the top schools in the state including a university and they still have one of the most ruthless gangs in the city and kill each other on a weekly basis. How low-class can it get?

8/27/2013 12:25:00 AM

How true. How sad. The Black community shows how far it has fallen from the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's. Then troops were needed to protect kids from white mobs. Now police are needed to protect little black kids from big black kids. And the community and its "leaders" aren't the least bit publicly outraged.

To the guy posting about the ppo wearing his hat backwards:
Why don't you tell him how to wear it properly instead of bitching about it on here?

& on that note it was funny to see the house mice out there with their leather looking brand spankin new like they were PPOs

The guy with his hat on backwards had it that way so he could look through the periscope of one of those Safe Passage Tanks like the U-Boat Commanders.

What also really looks goofy is all those guys, and some gals with white undershirts hanging out of the sleeves of their blue uniform shirts.

$10 an hour times 1200 safe passage parents. four hours a day times 5 days a week. Do the math and you will be amazed at the cost to the tax payer. Over 8 million a year. All for the kids. what a joke..

To 9:22am I agree and when I am on a beat car I always write illegal cars by churches and schools if people are breaking the law I write them just like revenue does in my neighborhood in 016

**************

Good, I am glad some still have the guts/time to write these violations. Revenue was out there again today and it was a mess with all the parents scrambling to get out of the spaces but then blocked the traffic lane. There is no official drop off zone so it's basically now made it so we have to let our kids out to walk alone so we don't get a ticket-ridiculous. I could see if we were going to stay there after 8 but a ticket for basically "standing" in a spot is too much.

Thank you for all that you do to keep the city safe.

For all the "old timers" who think that a parade dress code is useful for street policing, get over yourselves. I like my cargo pants - because I can keep a back-up gun accessible in the inside zipper pocket. And the other pockets are practical for all the other crap we have to carry. Also, I like my Velcro star - because there's no needle or sharp metal for a scumbag to grab when I wrestle with him. I have never worn a baseball hat because I don't see the practicality, and I agree they look stupid. But instead of being so salty/crusty and bitching about something as petty as dress, try doing something. Like running after someone in you patent black shoes. And be sure to wear your 5 point hat too. Those were always so practical.

Our department morale is falling to hell and all the "veterans" can do is break balls about how a young cop dresses. You should have told him to straighten his hat and left it at that. For what it's worth I look more professional AND work more effectively in my cargos. And I keep myself in a kind of shape that commands respect. All the fat old timers in their patents and dress pants and walking shoes, with their huge guts and vests that look like baby bibs, are an embarrassment. Couldn't pass the joke POWER test standards for their age group if they had to. So get over yourselves and help the young guys out. It's a new era of policework. Get used to it. And save all the big-talk, you're not some badass with magical powers just because you've been on for 20. I hope no young buck in the hood teaches you that, if you're not one of the fortunate who can hide out at the airports.

So now street gangs have been given sovereignty over large swaths of the city. Since when are gangbangers sovereign entities? Were treaties signed with these tribes, have reservations been ceded, and self rule been granted to whole regions of Chicago? Is this city so weak that it allows a bunch of lawless criminals to dictate who may cross their frontiers? Who owns the city, the gangs or the citizens? This city is doomed and that doom is racing at you at supersonic speed.I weep for you.

You said it. We look like shit. Look at the Sgt's and Lt's. they also look like shit. The other day I saw an officer wearing an Old Style baseball cap with his uniform. His Sgt was right next to him and didn't say shit. He was on duty and in the public view. Just plain sloppy.

Here's how you fix the problem. No more outer vest cover. No more cargo pants and baseball cap, stupid winter beanie hat or that stupid turtle neck. Wear your tie with a long sleeve shirt. We don't need two different sweaters. And don't wear your ribbons unless your in your dress uniform. You look like a tool with your stupid crime reduction ribbons and Obama ribbon. Ribbons for everyone. What a fucking joke!!! No gym shoes or shorts unless your on the bike team or marine unit.

ETs, SWAT, TARA, K9, Bomb and Arson should wear the same uniform as the rest of the police dept. Theres like 10 different uniforms. SWAT guys look like Blackhawk catalogs. Now this might be a shocker. Actually shine your shoes, wear a name tag with your star attached to your uniform or jacket and not clipped to your belt or around your neck while in uniform you sloppy, out of shape, losers.

Actually spend a clothing allowance check on buying a new shirt or pants, you cheap mo fos. Wear that CPD Leather jacket with pride. Look like the Real Police instead of security guards. Wear your belt keepers. What do you expect the Sgt's don't enforce shit and they are the biggest offenders.

Retired old time here. I agree about the uniform. You guys look like shit. How the hell you going to chase anyone with that vest loaded down with all those magazines? Baseball caps and cargo pants make you look unprofessional. You don't even wear your leather jackets anymore. Every time I see you on the news I cringe. I can't believe your bosses and Inspectors let you go out on the streets like that. I came on in 1967. We wore one uniform with pride. By the way your new stars look like something out of a Cracker Jack box. People always thought I was an X Marine when they saw me in uniform. I took that as a compliment. But your hair looks real good with that Vaseline in it. Many good cops died wearing that uniform. You guys look like SHIT!

Actually we do have Safe Passage on the North side. At my kids school we have hundreds of parents walking their children to school. Families with two parents. The parents that work, drive their kids to school. Other parents, that work later, man the curbs and usher the kids out of the cars and see them safely onto school grounds.

Maybe if those other schools saw how well this works, they might try it.

I somewhat agree with you but over the years i can think of atleast 8 coppers that have lost a star during a foot chase never to be found again in my district. Those stars are floating around somewhere. The patches aren't bad and reduce this.FYI i have both uniforms in summer i wear the patches in the winter i wear the leather and star with the 80/20's.I've seen several old timers wearing the new fleece sweaters with patches so its not just a hair gel thing.

There is a little more to the job than the uniform. Unfortunately there are still many, if not too many po's that wear the uniform proudly and well, but most are at headquarters, the commanders office, district front offices,CAPS and special units not doing a bit of police work.
I'll take the hardworking guys on the street that may lack great uniforms, but wear gym shoes , cargo pants, sweaters, etc because they are functional on the street.
And don't get carried away about the 34 years and think this is the opinion of a hairgel, I too am retired and had a few more years on the job than you

I'm tired of "old timers" getting on here and bitching about hair gels. Take all your infinite knowledge and do something with it. Just because you have 15+ years doesn't mean anything except you have 15, 20, 25, ECT...years on. I'm happy for you, but it's just a number.
