Final Weekend Tally

  • The mother of a 7-year-old boy who was shot by stray gunfire says he is "traumatized" and now frightened to leave his West Side home.

Tyvion Jackson was carrying his cousin's bicycle into his West Garfield Park neighborhood home when he was shot under his left arm and his shoulder, said his mother Tasha McDuffie. The boy had just returned from a picnic with his family around 9 p.m. Sunday. He was released from Mount Sinai Hospital this morning.

"He's doing fairly well. He's just traumatized and he's afraid to come outside," a visibly frustrated McDuffie said today on her front porch.

Tyvion is the 10th child age 7 or under to be shot in Chicago in less than two months, according to a Tribune analysis. His shooting capped off another violent weekend with more than 30 people shot, 6 fatally.
Hey Mama? He should be frightened. Terrified even.

How's it go again?

If a Boo-Baby gets shot in the ghetto and no reverends are around to protest it, does anybody care?

Still waiting for the calls for the UN to investigate as human rights issues. Still waiting for the calls to the DOJ to investigate. Still waiting for Jackson, Sharpton and Flaky to take to the streets.....Never mind, these kids were shot by members of their own race. Nothing to see here.

It's a good thing we have a commander ,captain, and other high ranking police working civilian jobs at OEMC.

Maybe the traffic aides can carry guns so the real police don't have to work.

As Harry Caray would say, "Let's sing this one again!"

So tired of hearing the same old song coming out of Chicago.

Every time they shoot one of their own, they should have to listen to this song blaring into their neighborhood.

Just have to close the rest of the gun shops in Cook County. Bells, Illinois Gunworks, Brett&Johnson, are gone. Time to close the last few.

Monday saw no improvement from the weekend. 12 more shot.

I thought Garry had charts and graphs and social maps that identified retaliatory targets.

Why isn't the media or anyone screaming about who is doing all the shooting. The black population in the US accounts for approximately 12% of the population and yet they account for 65% if the violent crime in the country. Do you see a problem here? Its only getting worse. Now you see why guns and ammo sales are through the roof.

When a child under the age of 10 gets shot past 8pm, why are the parents blamed? This child for instance was shot right before 9pm, GOING IN THE HOUSE. Its not like the kid was ripping and running the streets, he was riding his bike on a nice summer night. Come on now guy, people like you sound like the boystown police commander blaming the victims of robberies instead of the robber. Now that the boy is terrified to go outside if he gets shot from a bullet piercing his window you'll blame it on "this generation being coach potatoes"

This is for the officer that I had the discussion about English Mastiffs that was worded so badly on my end. ( again I'm so very sorry) My brother gave me one of his old scanners ( couple of yrs old) set me up with Chicago's Frequences, explained a few things to me ( I'm a fast learner) and I've been listening ever since. I FULLY understand why you might see the world a wee different than other people do. Good God, I hope your wife is good to you. If not, I'll get divorced and marry you! How in the world can you expect to go home with a smile after your shift ends? You owe no one any explanation about why you or any officer thinks they way you do.

I understand the young man that shot this 7 yr old was 15yrs old, has an ankle braclet on ( already)
and his momma thinks he really isn't a bad boy! Excuse me for asking, but can you tell me what she might think a bad boy is?
