Drugs Inc: Windy City High

If you have a little less than an hour and you missed the National Geographic special about the drug trade in Chicago, check this out:

They reference "Chi-raq" in the first 5 minutes and use the phrase "Murder Capital," too. Rahm has to be thrilled.

Said reality on how Chicago is going the direction of Detroit. Drugs was the finial down fall of Detroit.

A major city three times of Chicago just didn't fall because of the auto dealers.

Crime is the highest reason why people move out of Chicago. If you do not fell safe for you and your family you just move. That's what's happening to the good people.

Taxpayer here. Caught this show by accident. Very good but did not surprise me with it's content. Any citizen with an ounce of brains knows what is going on in some parts of the city. What gets me is the mayor's constant bullshit that everything is ok. MR. MAYOR! IT'S NOT OK ANYWHERE IN THE CITY. And we know it. Every neighborhood is now experiencing more crime and gang activity. We need more police, better judges and harder laws. Let our police be the police and back them up. Also give them the tools they need to do the job. Something has to give here with the crime in this city because we're sick of it.

Probably one of the most compelling arguments for the LEGALIZATION of drugs I have seen in a while.

Here's my simple 3 strikes and you're out analysis:

The drug "problem" has 2 components, the drug TRADE and drug USERS.

1. Legalize drugs and the drug TRADE disappears. Overnite. Dude & company would have better luck trying to hustle 8 track players on the street corner. Problem sovled.

2. Drug USERS would probably go into some type of super-nova, and half of them would be dead in the first 12 months. A terrible human cost but the fact of the matter is that people have been using all kinds of drugs for literally the last 5000 years, and nothing you can do will ever change that. It's a reality. Accept it.

3. If the unintended consequences of my recommendation are so severe that it outweights the benefits, WE CAN ALWAYS GO BACK TO ILLEGALIZATION.

After 4 decades and billions of dollars, one thing is indisputable: what we are doing now is clearly NOT WORKING. Drugs are the hydra-headed monster, and you will never kill it.

Thoughtfully articulated differences of opinion are appreciated. Ad hominem attacks on lawyers......ehhhh, not so much :)

Nice to see all our tax dollars at work; CFD chauffeurs these hypes around all day and night straight to the ER where thousands of dollars are spent to keep these fools alive. I'd bet my salary everyone of them had a link card, ssi stub, or both in their wallet/pocket. Our elite narcotics team did a raid on that house and found nothing but a gang member on parole, then let everyone go?? WTF- where the hell did that intel come from? Nice how they ended the segment redeeming the team with that ecstasy bust- bet there will be a lot of angry club owners in boystown. The lake county sheriffs did a little better - at least they got a nice ball of coke out of their raid. Judges there wont be as soft as the ones in Cook Co. Pretty good glimpse of how the players work. These guys will never give up the thug life- they glorify that ghetto bs and it's much easier to sling dope and make a ton of money than to actually get an education and earn a legitimate living. They should have gone a little further to show where exactly all that drug money profit goes - momma's pocket and reverend's pocket. Funny how the dumb goof with the dreads mentions something about a job at the very end of the program- LOL as if any legitimate business will ever set up shop in a shithole neighborhood that will loot and steal the minute the bulls win another championship- keep frying those 2 brain cells you got left willy!! He probably already on ssi getting disability checks cuz he can't work- he gots asthma. What a joke!

Seeing these drug addicts destroy their own lives is outright pathetic. You want to know what else is pathetic? Police officers sons and daughters addicted to drugs. Some us need to pay attention to what is happening to our own children. I know our job is stressful and it can be too much. But for the love of God pay attention to what your kids are doing, where they are at, etc... One slip in a young person's life and their life is over. Life is too precious.

The funniest part of this video is the when they showed the undercover federal agent....what a joke...between the DEA, ICE, ATF, FBI...they don't do shit. Don't know why the FED was all masked, none of the FEDS do any undercover work, I just wanted to laugh my ass off.... The US Attorney doesn't take any cases unless it's five or more kilos of Cocaine, Heroin and tied up in a neat package with a bow on top...they pick and chose which cases to prosecute and brag about their conviction rate...Our politicians want to give all the illegals amnesty, yet most Illegals are involved in the drug trade from Mexico, either in the distribution or the money laundering aspect...what a fucking joke...the best thing we could do is legalize all street drugs so we can control what is on the street and so we can control who is selling it and deal with treatment with the money generated....Drug enforcement is not working amigos...don't believe me??? Just look at the numbers....drugs are easier, cheaper and more potent...and how long have we been chasing our tails with this drug war???

Yeah, that would stop people from overdosing or becoming addicted right? Do you have any children? Legal or not, would you want them using heroin, crack, crystal meth, etc.? (After reading what you wrote I hope to God you haven't reproduced). Do you really think if drugs were legal that would stop people from committing crime to obtain them/money to obtain them? I have an idea for you- when posting on any site change your signature to: Not a LEO, just a dumb fuck lawyer.

Chicago..........

Highest number of gang members in the country.

Highest consumption of drugs in the country.

Highest heroin use in the US

Highest number of guns recovered by police per Mc C.

This is just a recipe for disaster, we need to act quick and now. The good people are fleeing the city. Good people are pry and victims. The only way to stop this is arrests, prosecutions and jail time. Also the federal government with deportation if it applies to criminals. The areas I once lived and grow up in looks like a war zone. Good people long gone. Our leaders caused this and we don't hold them accountable, Vote! Vote them out!

Crime down, but calls for service up! Vote these people out. That's the only chance we have and the only way to change this!

Good Luck to all living in Chicago.......

In Re: Probably one of the most compelling arguments for the LEGALIZATION of drugs I have seen in a while.

To those who posted a reply to my post, here is my response.

Go google "drug inc national geographic"

Click on the first link.

When you get there, scroll down to "Full Episodes Online" and watch the video on heroin. Its about 45 minutes long, and just as well done as the video that was the original subject of this post.

About 3/4 of the way into the Heroin video, they have a segment shot in Switzerland about the Swiss' response to what was once was a bad heroin problem.

Their solution: free clinics where addicts can get free heroin under a government doctors supervision.

The result: crime dropped by 60%.

Cigarettes are (still) legal, yet there's a trade in black-market cigarettes. The Switzerland example is a red herring. For one thing, their heroin trade was far less than anything in the U.S. Does anyone really expect the current crop of large-scale dealers to just roll over if some substances are legalized? And look at the situation with prescription opiates. Dealers are moving into those as well, and they're "legal." Ask a pharmacist who's just been robbed how that legal drug's working out for him. And I have yet to see anyone constructively discuss how you deal with a "contact high" when you're around a bunch of people smoking legal pot.

Well put...you are so right brother. The real reason crime is up is because at every turn the people in these crime ridden communities do not back the Police and thus the Police will not stick their necks out...
