Chicago Comptroller Indicted in Ohio

We have no particular training in journalism, mostly because we didn't feel like taking that route as a career. But we do have a career of more than a few years being taught to see things that others miss, questioning strange coincidences and sensing bullshit.

So when we pointed out a few things on 03 July that smelled funny surrounding Rahm's Comptroller, and TrueNewsUSA highlighted his shady associations with terrorism, and especially his background in Ohio, we had no idea that this was on the way:
  • When Amer Ahmad abruptly resigned as city comptroller about three weeks ago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel heaped praise on his hand-picked aide for helping him "reform government" in Chicago.

On Thursday, Ahmad was indicted in Ohio on federal corruption charges in what prosecutors described as a more than $500,000 kickback scheme involving state investment business while he served as deputy treasurer and chief financial officer there.

Emanuel spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton declined to answer specific questions about Ahmad, but she issued a statement saying the administration did not know about the investigation until the indictment was announced.
So the media, Rahm's media, failed to notice anything funny, odd or out-of-place about this guy's background, any one of a number of red flags that should have at least rated a question of Chicago's (and Rahm's) desire to hire him for the sensitive job of Comptroller.

Anyone else think that's kind of sad?

Funny how he abruptly left Chicago right around the time the states bond ratings was cut three notches for Illinois.

What's one of the stories read? "it's not sure presently if Rahm will appoint an outside auditor or do an investigation in house" -- or something like that. Because Rahm is on VACATION!!

Unbelievable but then again he hired McCarthy with you a horrible background. McCarthy was arrested in New Jersey after that traffic stop with his daughter. But lets hire him here in Chicago as the Superintendent of police and make him the highest paid city employee. More than the mayor himself

Business as usual, another politically appointed person under indictment, whats new there? Of course the media won't report it in Chicago because then they will be snubbed by Rahm's adinistration. Oh Dick Mell wants his daughter appointed to his spot he is vacating, no problem. Then Rahm goes on to say that its not about nepotism, but appointing quality people to the position, RIGHT! All he and the rest of the administration are flooding the media with is about how the city pension system is underfunded. Funny how Pam Zeckman is doing an expose on ISP troopers and their pensions when it just so happens they are locked in contract negotiations. Politiians suck and The media is a joke!

First and foremost as city comptroller he is appointed to our pension board. Someone should make sure this jagoff is immediately removed from the pension board. Typical democrat cronyism if you do what I want I will give you a job doesn't matter that you are a crook. Rahm is conducting a fire sale here and selling this city down the river. We will be Detroit sooner than later. It's all part of their plan to steal from the middle class and distribute the proceeds to the poorest and richest. I believe that many of the people reading this blog are sworn officers. I appreciate the work you all do.

I am not - I am a CPA. So, for once, there is a topic I can comment on. Everyone should understand that there are hundreds of CPAs in Chicago who could do a better job than this guy.

The office is Comptroller! Necessary but boring accounting stuff like processing financial transactions, creating and enforcing internal accounting controls, safeguarding assets, preparing meaningful and relevant financial reports, etc. What this guy did at Wasserstein was Mergers & Acquisitions investment banking. In other words, sell deals to whoever (out of the same pool of 100 jagoffs) is stupid enough to pay the most. That isn't accounting - it is bs'ing, golfing, going to dinner and strip joints.

So, exactly why would a City like Chicago need an M&A guy?

Oh by the way, at 38 he probably isn't personally wealthy enough to live on the salary he gets. Six figure bonuses are tough things to let go of. How do you think is making up that loss of cash?

The city will be slowly taking more homes and businesses so eventually they can privatize the airport at taxpayers expense.

Well, that a stupid statement.
Of course your footing the bill for Midway expansion = the city still owns that airport!

That building at 63rd and Central was a shithole to many who rented out of there.

The city has had a plan for Midway expansion for decades, so any complaints about it should have been addressed by the neighbors years ago.

Anyone remember what the City did to the Skyway right before they signed the lease deal leasing the Skyway out? They spent hundreds of millions of bucks rebuilding it from the ground up. That was stipulated in the lease contract.

My guess is the same thing will go down with Midway. City expands and fixes everything all up in preparation to leasing it out. We get the tab for the rebuild, the new leaseholder gets a property that needs no expensive repairs and at the other end, the City gets back a pile of shit when the lease expires.

Sounds like a City of Chicago deal. Not only do we get fucked, we pay big time for the privilege of being fucked.

Thank you sir, may I have another.

We don't need Pension Reform, we need Political Reform. Throw out every politician in Illinois. No exceptions. Now, more than ever, we need a forensic audit of Chicago's books.

8/16/2013 07:08:00 AM

32nd ward Alderman Waguespack called for a forensic audit about six years ago. Daley and most everyone else ignored him.

Rahm came in a tried to dump Ed Burke from the Finance Committee and was told in a back room why he can't do that.

Nothing in the way of genuine reform will ever happen here. Not unless al Queda blows up City Hall completely on a wednesday during a council meeting with all hands on deck..

Jaquelyn Heard was Mayor Daley's spin doctor, spokewomen, and Press Secretary. her husband Henry Basett should also I believe be on the radar . Think the Federal Goverment should look into any conflict of interest obtaining property when an official is in a high ranking government job. During the Hired Truck Scandal, illegally obtained cash was revealed for acquiring property in Federal court records. If Joseph Ferguson looks into Henry Basett CTA appointed job and investigate it he shpild do something about it. Also I hope Ferguson's office Should have a black list of people not working for gov when indeed have been fired or resign for wrong doing and then they show up back in goverment payroll.

This is what the Sun-Times found out of the board Lori Lightfoot will be joining.

A Chicago Sun-Times review of the board’s decisions found police Supt. Garry McCarthy loses most of the cases in which he seeks to fire an officer.

Administration placed its IG, Paul Brachfeld, on paid
administrative leave in 2012 in response to allegations of
wrongdoing against him.\20\ The leave lasted for two years,
creating lengthy uncertainty within the OIG and coming at a
high cost to taxpayers: the agency paid $300,000 for the IG's
salary while he remained unable to work and another several
hundred thousand dollars on legal fees.\21\ The Committee
believes the delay was exacerbated by inadequate coordination
among investigative bodies and slow work by CIGIE's Integrity
Committee.

Your looking at this Joseph Maxwell Ferguson!

Inspectors General have also been criticized for being, rather than guardians of whistleblowers, instead, ineffective, inactive, or at worst, instruments by which whistleblowers are persecuted. One example is from the Securities and Exchange Commission OIG. In a 2011 article by Matt Taibbi, SEC whistleblowers said that complaining to the SEC OIG was "well-known to be a career-killer."[2] Another example is from whistleblower Jesselyn Radack's book Canary in the Coalmine, in which she describes her experience complaining to the Department of Justice OIG; instead of helping her, the IG office helped the DOJ get her fired and restricted from practicing as a lawyer.[3] Another example is from the Thomas Andrews Drake case, in which several complainants to the Department of Defense OIG over NSA's Trailblazer Project were later raided by the FBI and some threatened with criminal prosecution.[4]

The ethos of entitlement dies hard.

Never criticize a watchdog for biting a burglar, even if it does eat a lot of food. It’s always a good thing, and sends a message.

Thank you, SCC for your outlet.

Gov. Bruce Rauner on Thursday, July 16th issued an executive order — a direct response to the unraveling of an Illinois Department of Transportation patronage hiring scandal — which his office says will get rid of a layer of government bureaucracy for non-political hires.

I would like to call that the "crony bill" all you cronies are donenito!!
Good luck getting a job in Chicago.
