Want to See Rahm's Head Explode?

  • North Carolina lawmakers have approved a bill greatly expanding where concealed handguns are legally allowed.

The Republican-backed bill approved by both the House and Senate on Tuesday allows concealed-carry permit holders to take firearms into bars and restaurants and other places where alcohol is served as long as the owner doesn’t expressly forbid it.

The measure will also allow concealed-carry permit holders to store weapons in locked cars on the campus of any public school or university. Guns will also now be allowed on greenways, playgrounds and other public recreation areas.

North Carolina actually treats it's citizens as adults. Illinois not so much.

The heads of the 'elite' libtard moonbats started exploding as soon as this was passed. 'Naturally' they had to share their lofty opinion on news websites from coast-to-coast about the people in North Carolina, i.e.:: Stupid Hillbillies, Trailer Trash, Meth Addicts, Toothless Inbreds, etc, etc, etc.

The reader comments at the New York Times was especially enlightening. I'm glad they're so tolerant of others. Well, at least when it comes to deviant perverted politicians with Hooker & Cyberstalking Foot Fetishes, anyway. /s

Funny that you should write this today. We are leaving the east coast of NC today after spending the last few days looking at a few retirement properties. This place is f**cking beautiful. Clean, great weather, low crime, friendly people and gas prices about a buck less a gallon than the dysfunctional city we'll be returning to. Yep, about ready to kiss Illinois, Cook county and Chicago goodbye and leave the politicos to wallow in the shithole they created.

Move there if you like but keep you tax and VOTING here.

Rahm said keeping a box under the stairs of a home he rented meant he was a citizen of Chicago. Then paying your taxes and voting from your kids or other relatives Chicago address keeps you in the fight for your pension and other rights here.

I always wondered if anyone asked the question, "Mr. Emanuel, while working in Washington D.C. did you, on a timely basis file your Illinois Income Tax Returns.?"

I don't like the guy but that would have settled the Rahm residency question.

Vote and make the politicans FEAR US!

How about the NRA or similar group put Rahm's head with his normal snearing expression on billboards. Not with a 2nd Amendment slogan but simple with, "You people are too stupid to own guns."

Does North Carolina tax income from pensions?

7/27/2013 01:12:00 AM

Yes, at varying rates, Tennessee has no state income tax.

NORTH CAROLINA

BOTTOM LINE: MIXED TAX PICTURE
North Carolina is a favorite destination for retirees. Social Security benefits are exempt from state income taxes. There are also tax breaks for public pensions and qualified private pensions. Real estate is assessed at 100% of appraised value. Homeowners 65 and older may qualify for a homestead exemption of up to $25,000 or 50% of the permanent residence’s appraised value, whichever is greater.

STATE SALES TAX
4.75%. Prescription drugs and medical equipment are exempt. Food is subject to a 2% county tax. Counties may add an additional 2% to 3% tax.

INCOME-TAX RANGE
Low: 6% (on up to $12,750 of taxable income for single filers and $21,250 for married couples filing jointly)
High: 7.75% (on taxable income over $60,000 for single filers, and over $100,000 for married couples filing jointly)

SOCIAL SECURITY
Benefits are not taxed.

EXEMPTIONS FOR OTHER RETIREMENT INCOME
North Carolina offers a break of at least $4,000 in exclusions for pensions from federal, state and local governments (depending on dates and length of service). It also offers an exemption of up to $2,000 for qualified private pensions, including IRAs. Out-of-state government pensions also qualify for the $4,000 exemption.

PROPERTY TAXES
Property is assessed based on 100% of appraised value. Taxes are collected by cities and counties.

Tax breaks for seniors: The state has a property-tax deferment program. Under this program, taxes for each year are limited to a percentage of the qualifying owner's income. The qualifying owner must be at least 65 years old or be totally and permanently disabled. For an owner whose income for the previous tax year does not exceed the income-eligibility limit for the current year, which is $27,100 for 2012, this program excludes the first $25,000 or 50% of assessed value (whichever is greater) from taxation. The state’s Circuit Breaker Tax Deferment Program limits property taxes to 4% of an owner’s income for those 65 years and older who make less than $27,100 a year. For those making between $27,100 and $40,650, property taxes are limited to 5% of their income.

Social Security, Railroad Retire¬ment and VA benefits are not subject to North Carolina state income tax. You can exclude from your taxable income up to $4,000 in federal, state and local government pensions, and up to $2,000 for qualified private pensions, including IRAs. The total amount you can exclude cannot be more than $4,000. North Carolina state retirees or military personnel with at least 5 years of creditable service as of August 12, 1989 are permanently exempt from tax on their retirement pay.

Regarding North Carolina tax. I am a retired CPD living in South Carolina, we can walk to N.C. Lower taxes, NC has high taxes due to bad school system like Chicago. Beautiful here, lower taxes and reciprocal gun laws. Many people moving here from Charlotte due to above. Excellent schools if you have kids. If you want any more info give me a way to contact you.

I believe we in Illinois set the record for most Governors in jail at the same time. Chicago the most Aldermen in jail!

Before you guys get too starry eyed over NC.

Remember that we are the land of castration clubs, "liquor cycles" (motor scooters you can operate without a license, insurance or plates at any age on any street, or highway) and "on the street" NASCAR driving. I have NEVER seen so many one car accidents, 20mph over the limit is tolerated.

We are only a brain cell or two away from a 3rd world country.

True. Depends on what city/county in NC you are in. The cost of living in some can approach Chicago.

Senior citizen break for property taxes? Again depends on city/county. Here I think you can only have about $17K in income AND I think they may look at your total assets too.

No liquor stores, you can only buy hard liquor from the county (and some counties are dry). And they charge a bunch.

I could go on and on.

Doctors going to the hospital cannot ccw. Imagine going in on an emergency to a hospital in the middle of the night and the law forbids a gun in the parking lot controlled by the hospital. If the hospital is in a crappy neighborhood screw it.

Raleigh (state capital) is working on the tax code this session. Can't remember any bill numbers but searching for "proposed NC taxes" in your favorite search engine turns up some articles stating the tax rate being lowered.

And we are actively waiting on the Governor to sign HB 937 which is the expansion of the concealed carry laws. Sign Pat Sign!

Oh contraire...

When I started working for the CPD Richard the First was the Mayor and had a firm hand on everything. But, no union for the police, no time and a half overtime and when you went on furlough all the time due over 40 hours on the books disappeared.

Jane Byrne was a Godsend. Things were rocky at first but she loved the CPD. As the widow of a Marine pilot she knew the loss of a man in uniform. She took good care of us and if it wasn't for Frank Muscare and Richard the Second we wouldn’t be in the mess we are now.

I've heard she has some health problems now. We should all wish her well.

As a recent transplant to NC, I can second the sentiment for others that the picture ain't as rosey as it appears, particularly if you're still working in public safety or have kids kids in school. The state legislature just changed hands to the Repuplicans and the amount of score settling at the expense of the populace is pretty staggering. The gun thing has nothing to do with the state treating citizens as adults, it's just pure ideological warfare (Democrats don't like it? Great, pass it). As for the pension funds, they are better funded but much more meager (I have to do 30 to get 55%...and my top out pay is waaaay lower than it would be up north....and anyone hired after 2010 in my county gets zero medical at retirement).

Definately Nevada over Arizona. Big difference in Nevada they dont tax pensions, bordering states so weather is basically the same, property is cheaper in Nevada

Lived and worked in Chicago my whole life. Retired 7 years ago.
Bought a home in Nevada last year. Couldn't be happier. No state income tax. Just reeived my property tax bill. $2800. My guess is the equivalent in Crook County would be $8,000. Hot, hot, hot in June-Sept but outstanding Oct-May. Golfed every month. Home prices are on the upswing but I guess that's everywhere.

Also lived in Florida. No state income tax, good weather (summer excluded), and fairly low prop taxes. But insurance is ridiculous and its basically like living in a full time retirement home. Living there and vacationing there are completely different animals.

I have carried my gun into bars since 1983. I'm not sure what trouble was being 'asked for'. I have a drink or two and never once felt the need to shoot my gun at a mirror, a barstool, or another patron.

Then again, I'm not one of those people who thinks you solve a verbal argument by waving a gun.
