Polite Muggers Apologize
Maybe they're just about to turn their lives around and this is part of the process - feeling bad about taking property that doesn't belong to them:
- It was bad enough the robbers pushed Joanna Hernandez and her friend
against a wall, pointing a knife at her and holding a gun to her
friend's head.
"I think what bothered me the most was afterward they said, ‘We’re sorry we had to put you through this,' " said Hernandez, 21. "I did not accept their apology."
Hernandez and her friend were not injured during the robbery early Monday morning in the River North neighborhood, but the robbers got away with $300 in cash, the women's cell phones and Hernandez's wallet.
Hernandez and her friend, 23, had just finished working at a Division Street bar and were headed to another club to unwind after a long shift, she said. They parked at a garage at 10 E. Grand Ave. and were walking in the 200 block of West Illinois Street when four men approached from behind around 3:10 a.m., according to the women and Police News Affairs....
And just in case anyone missed the implication here, the crime victims spell it out quite succinctly:
- “Obviously, it’s not safe for two girls to be walking by themselves,’’ acknowledged Hernandez, who was born and raised in Chicago. "It really caught us by surprise."
It shouldn't be that surprising, seeing what's been going on the last few years.

I saw this last night and knew someone would have it here. This should be required viewing for every school age child every morning, perhaps after the National anthem.
Born and raised in Chicago and you were surprised that this happened. Don't worry Barb West will write them a letter on your behalf.

Just on Fox news, Bobby Rush wants the city and county to allocate 100 million bucks to put better care for gunshot victims in underserviced areas such as Englewood. Not a dime to put more police on the street but $100M to patch the targets up quicker and get them back in the fight.

For all of those "if Trayvon was white" people including the POTUS, please check out the slaying of a white unarmed teenager in Rochester, New York, in 2009, by a black adult. Roderick Scott was found not guilty of manslaughter in the slaying of Chris Cervini in December 2009. I just saw something about this last week, I must have missed the national headlines and 24/7 coverage when it happened.
Chicago Police spokesperson responding to the Guardian Angels calling the Magnificent mile "Muggers mile": "There have only been two robberies on that beat this month". Isn't that because they classify some pos stealing your cell phone or wallet as a THEFT and not a robbery! Wake the f**k up media!

Since 2002, the New York Police Department has taken tens of thousands of weapons off the street through proactive policing strategies. The effect this has had on the murder rate is staggering. In the 11 years before Mayor Michael Bloomberg took office, there were 13,212 murders in New York City. During the 11 years of his administration, there have been 5,849. That's 7,383 lives saved—and if history is a guide, they are largely the lives of young men of color.
So far this year, murders are down 29% from the 50-year low achieved in 2012, and we've seen the fewest shootings in two decades.
To critics, none of this seems to much matter. Sidestepping the fact that these policies work, they continue to allege that massive numbers of minorities are stopped and questioned by police for no reason other than their race.
Never mind that in each of the city's 76 police precincts, the race of those stopped highly correlates to descriptions provided by victims or witnesses to crimes. Or that in a city of 8.5 million people, protected by 19,600 officers on patrol (out of a total uniformed staff of 35,000), the average number of stops we conduct is less than one per officer per week.
Racial profiling is a disingenuous charge at best and an incendiary one at worst, particularly in the wake of the tragic death of Trayvon Martin. The effect is to obscure the rock-solid legal and constitutional foundation underpinning the police department's tactics and the painstaking analysis that determines how we employ them.
In 2003, when the NYPD recognized that 96% of the individuals who were shot and 90% of those murdered were black and Hispanic, we concentrated our officers in those minority neighborhoods that had experienced spikes in crime. This program is called Operation Impact.
If a person has an "ethnic name" then why do they have to stipulate that the person was either born and raised in Chicago or is a native of Mexico, South Korea, etc...? Yet if it's a white person then they don't do that?
