Read Rahm's Lips - You're Screwed

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he’s decided to hold the line on taxes, fines and fees in his 2013 budget and count on rebounding revenues, continued cost-cutting and dunning deadbeats to erase a revised $298 million shortfall.

“Through the reforms and cuts and efficiencies, we’ll be able to have a budget that’s balanced without any taxes, fines or fees that we control. The only tax that will be dealt with is the employee head tax—and that will be eliminated,” Emanuel said.
Evidently, Rahm has found a magical source of revenue that doesn't necessitate sticking his hands in taxpayers' pockets.  We're going to call this new source "cutting the crap out of everything."  We're going to bet on no police hiring, closing firehouses, shuttering schools, gutting Streets & San and an entire shitload of cameras coming on-line in short order.

We don't see aldercreatures being cut, aldercreature expense accounts being depleted, or aldercreature staff being laid off.  Imagine that.

Bring jobs to Chicago and people will pay into the system and the city will have money to pay its bills. No amount of cutting will fix this city's deficit, money has to start coming in and jobs and businesses that know they will not get robbed or extorted out of its profits is the best cure. For years I have been trying to bring to light the extortion that the hoodlums and thugs have been doing on the west side and finally it' s come to light ( thugs demanding payoffs to build store on Madison).

"shuttering schools, gutting Streets & San "

I'm all for those 2. Those outrageous teacher pay increases and benefits should be offset by expense reduction both by closing under performing schools (plenty to choose from) and significantly the admin staff.

Streets and san should be cut completely and outsourced to private companies.

I also like your proposal of cutting aldercreature expenses. In fact we have way too many. We could cut the number by at least half.

It seems that the red light camera formerly at Irving and Western has gone away. That one has been flashing constantly since installation. I wonder why they would take that one down. I would stop people for running the red light there and they would give me the excuse that they saw the flash go off so they kept on going and I shouldn't write them because they are sure they will get another one in the mail. So be it.

Why people aren't clamering for a forencic audit of this city's budget is beyond me. Where's th BGA? Oh that's right this is Chicago.

apparently on friday it was decided that each district will get two stagecoaches and four horses--- these will be the new wagons--- this is one of ferguson's recommended cost cutting measures to save on the expense of fuel and vehicle cost and maintenance--- all wagon men will go to the academy for a week of horse training and will then return to the district to implement the new program....

This dos not mean that agencies that he controls though appointments like the Chicago PArk District and Chicago Public Schools will hold the line on noe new taxes.

Both these agencies will raises there taxes and Emanuel can say that it was their boards who decided on the tax raise and it is not out of his city budget

On Friday the sandwich shop chain Jimmy Johns announced that it will be pulling it's corporate HQ out of Illinois. Why? Because of the corporate taxes AND because of the lack of transparency on how those taxes are being spent.

That it all..over and out.

Don't you just love how this game is played on taxes and transparency?

See,

What we do is give the corporations massive tax breaks and then, out of the goodness of the corporations heart, the corporations "donate" a portion of that money back to prominent politicians to use as they please.

Oh $55 mil. for a park?

That's not taxes. I don't have to account for who's getting contracts to do THAT work. That is not tax money. It's a donation and so on and so on.

Watch on how all these upcoming corporate partnerships with the city skirt the transparency and accountability promises of city finances and projects.

I'll tell you what boys and girls. If the corporations have $55 mil. laying around they should be hiring people and creating jobs with it OR paying higher taxes so that the money can be accounted for and distributed or used for things that benefit all of Chicago and not just a select few clouted high rollers in the downtown Green Zone.

We close mental health clinics and we close schools so that they can build a $55 mil dollar park. BULLSHIT!

You may feel like ...well I don't have any kids or my kids are going to a private school and so I don't give a rats azz.

That's not very forward thinking my friends. There will come a day when the powers that be at CPD will be done with you and like it or not those kids that are in the first grade today will be running the show or providing the services for us all. So doesn't it make sense for wanting them to be the brightest they can be earning as much money as they can to grow the economy and money in our savings and pension plans.

-------------------------------

Sure go ahead and audit away. Audit all the tax money you want.

The politicians have created a separate pool of money from what is know as corporate donations that were offset in many cases by corporate tax breaks.

That pool of money is donations money for the circle of clout and you can't audit that can you? It's not taxes! Go audit the taxes over there don't look over here we're gonna build a park hahhahaha.. as they laugh and stuff the pockets of their friends, close our schools and cut our police and fire protection.

i would hope this is just a reminder to all the readers/taxpayers. rahm is best described as a weasel. he pisses our money away constantly only to benefit his agenda. rahm needs to cut the real "fat" off the steak and that should start with the aldermen. if rahm really meant what he said about "chicago's safety" being a priority then he would either hire more police or even provide some respectable resources for the police. instead he makes cuts and everyone knows he will be looking for more heads at the chopping block if he can find them.

...and then there's this.

How can we continue the myth of: "as the economy continues to improve", that jobs are being created and things must be getting better cuz look at the Bureau of Labor Stats, the unemployment reports as proof.

I mean we need this for people to feel good for the elections, right?

Well.. heh-heh..no problema check it out.

Obama administration tells contractors again: Don’t issue layoff notices

"The Obama administration issued new guidance intended for defense contractors Friday afternoon, reiterating the administration’s position that the companies should not be issuing layoff notices over sequestration.

The Labor Department issued guidance in July saying it would be “inappropriate” for contractors to issue notices of potential layoffs tied to sequestration cuts. But a few contractors, most notably Lockheed Martin, said they still were considering whether to issue the notices — which would be sent out just days before the November election.

But the Friday guidance from the Office of Management and Budget raised the stakes in the dispute, telling contractors that they would be compensated for legal costs if layoffs occur due to contract cancellations under sequestration — but only if the contractors follow the Labor guidance."

More at the above link.

--------------------

Ain't nothing like manufacturing a crisis so that we can save you in the final minutes of that crisis eh?

You know what this means kids?

The sequestration cuts they speak of are the automatic budget and austerity cuts to things like defense that are in place to take effect right after the elections. Congress created this time-bomb to force themselves to come to terms with the budget. If they don't address the budget then BOOM.

Obama wants the companies to ignore what it known as the WARN labor laws and now Washington says that they will pay for the consequences of ignoring the laws should any actual layoffs have to be done in violation of the WARN act.

If other words it's on the taxpayers backs! The story continues...

=====================

"The guidance said that if plant closings or mass layoffs occur under sequestration, then “employee compensation costs for [Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification] WARN act liability as determined by a court” would be paid for covered by the contracting federal agency."

“The Obama Administration is cynically trying to skirt the WARN Act to keep the American people in the dark about this looming national security and fiscal crisis,” Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said in a statement. “The president should insist that companies act in accordance with the clearly stated law and move forward with the layoff notices.”

The fight over WARN Act notices began in June when Lockheed Martin CEO Bob Stevens said his company might send the notices to all 123,000 of its employees.

----------------------------------

Heh, cover up the defense contractor layoffs and then correct me if I'm wrong but there's also a massive USPS postal worker cuts program in progress.

We can't have these people showing up in the unemployment stats just before elections.

Austerity cuts and high unemployment. If you need a clue of what's headed our way just search on Youtube and see what's going on right now in Greece and in Spain. That's all.

Why not tax the bike ridders? They ride as if they own the streets, so why not have them pay for it's use. I suggest $40.00 per bike for all of those over 18 YOA. Issue a metal plate (License Plate type) which has to fasten to the seat. More and more of the driving lanes are being taken away or narrowed for the assholes, who pay nothing. They cut in & out of traffic, cause accidents & then ride off without a care in the world. Also have them also carry insurance & be liable for their action. Rahm would then have a new Tax Revenue!

Do you really think that the mayor will raise taxes to fully fund police and fire pensions in 2015? I don't he will either refuse or the law will be reversed in Springfield. Rahm will let the pensions go bankrupt as he considers them stand alone funds. The fund will only pay out what it takes in which will mean substantial cuts for all retirees. Actuaries around the country predict that most pension funds will collapse no matter who wins the next election. They are unsustainable and it is too late to fix them. There is no support by the general public to raise taxes to keep the funds afloat. Sorry times are coming for a lot of people around the country. Illinois funds will be the first to go.

Not to mention SWAT was promised D-3 pay seven years ago and take home cars. I'm sick of this city and its bosses cutting corners especially since SWAT is here to protect the Blue Shirts. We may wear green but we are blue shirts. I have to respond from one end of the city in my personal car with all my gear including a baby seat. Yes I'm a whiner but you know what it's for good reason. We train hard so we could be ready for you guys. Our leadership, the Sgt's and Lt including the Chief could care less if something happens and you need us. They all gave take home cars but the rest of us suffer. They gave us take home cars a year ago only to take half of them back and there not even being used. Do your job Lt MM and Deputy Tina!!!! We all get screwed except the white shirts. Funny how they all have take home cars on SWAT but never show up.

Swat guy. I don't believe anyone has a gun to your head to stay in your current position. Don't get me wrong you guys do a great job, but what makes you think the city will cave in to your demands if you keep doing it under the current working arrangements? You all need to band together, tell them to stck the job in their collective asses, and then maybe they will take you seriously. Then again some mush head will probably volunteer to take your vacant spot. We better get united boys and girls or rahm has got us by the short hairs.
