Hiring Debacle?

Can anyone over at the Academy confirm this one?  It sounds like a doozy:
  • HR yesterday Wednesday the 26 after 1600 made calls to inform candidates that they had made it on for a class tomorrow Friday the 28th show time 0645. So these people exited and ready quit jobs on a days notice and for the ones that live outside the city probably spent the day trying to establish residency. But of course today after 1700 the night before they begin work, they have been called again and told sorry class starts next week Friday the 5th!
So....what happened to giving your previous employer 2 weeks notice?  That courtesy has fallen by the wayside?

And one day to establish residency?

And since the City seems to have canceled the class, all these people are without a paycheck for the next week?  We aren't ones to brag about the state of our financial affairs, but missing a week of pay would put a serious cramp in certain financial transactions.

And why is the Academy starting a class on a Friday?

Anyone wanting to be the police in Chicago should have their head examined. The job has changed so much over the years, to include the streets and the people in charge. People use to say they wanted to be the real police and be a CPD Officer, well the suburbs make more money and have a better pension plan. Good luck to whover ends up at CPD.

This has nothing to do with the Academy. Staff there was ready and waiting.

This is another Ladner screw job.

Academy front office notified at 1800 hrs of cancellation.
No reason given.
When you walk in the door you must be a city resident, how many had to change residency at a moments notice to fulfill that requirement and how much did it cost them?
How many quyit their previous employ and are now without a job to pay their bills?

Sure one day notice of course, of course. It follows the same MO. Need I remind you?

Like we're going to install speed trap camera's in School zones..oh wait...what's that..the vendors are unable to identify whether an actual child is in the zone with a camera.

Awww damn, well the mayor tried vless his heart and the vendors failed and just couldn't deliver. It's not his fault.

And..

We are going to install gig-a-bit internet service in all the city parks and it will be FREE and create a zillion jobs...except the only problem is that there is no such thing to provide gigabit speed via a wireless medium.

Daaaw, can't blame the mayor. He tries. He was going to do it. However the stupid vendors just couldn't build the equipment.

All these multimillion plans blasted on the front page like they represent a huge accomplishment for the city. Only problem is they are half baked plans that so far are not possible.

So what a surprise with CPD new hires. Can't find a way to become a resident in one day? Well, sad day for you Hoss. The mayor tried and he was just unable to find qualified people to bring on as new CDP recruits.

Just look at all those things the mayor wanted to do and the stupid people around him just couldn't do them. It's not his fault... /sarcasm

Oh..and this just in Rahm vows not to raise any more taxes, fines, and fees.. Woo-hoo eh!!

That's how most people will read and interpret the press release omitting the last part that says: "..FOR THE REST OF 2012.."

This should come as no surprise as you do not want to anger the democratic voters prior to election. Big deal a moratorium on taxes, fines, and fees for three months. Bid Deal it's not like it's for the rest of his term. I recall G.W. Bush making the statement "READ MY LIPS. NO NEW TAXES" during his campaign too. What happened after? Well we didn't create new taxes per-say we raised the hell out of all the old ones. HA-HAH sad day for you!

See how they're doing it in Greece now?

Greek police send crime victims to neo-Nazi 'protectors'

Far-right Golden Dawn party filling vacuum for those neglected by state after MPs elected to fight 'immigrant scum'

Helena Smith in Athens

The Guardian, Friday 28 September 2012 14.32 EDT

Greece's far-right Golden Dawn party is increasingly assuming the role of law enforcement officers on the streets of the bankrupt country, with mounting evidence that Athenians are being openly directed by police to seek help from the neo-Nazi group, analysts, activists and lawyers say.

In return, a growing number of Greek crime victims have come to see the party, whose symbol bears an uncanny resemblance to the swastika, as a "protector".

One victim of crime, an eloquent US-trained civil servant, told the Guardian of her family's shock at being referred to the party when her mother recently called the police following an incident involving Albanian immigrants in their downtown apartment block.

"They immediately said if it's an issue with immigrants go to Golden Dawn," said the 38-year-old, who fearing for her job and safety, spoke only on condition of anonymity. "We don't condone Golden Dawn but there is an acute social problem that has come with the breakdown of feeling of security among lower and middle class people in the urban centre," she said. "If the police and official mechanism can't deliver and there is no recourse to justice, then you have to turn to other maverick solutions."

Other Greeks with similar experiences said the far-rightists, catapulted into parliament on a ticket of tackling "immigrant scum" were simply doing the job of a defunct state that had left a growing number feeling overwhelmed by a "sense of powerlessness". "Nature hates vacuums and Golden Dawn is just filling a vacuum that no other party is addressing," one woman lamented. "It gives 'little people' a sense that they can survive, that they are safe in their own homes."

Far from being tamed, parliamentary legitimacy appears only to have emboldened the extremists. In recent weeks racially-motivated attacks have proliferated. Immigrants have spoken of their fear of roaming the streets at night following a spate of attacks by black-clad men on motorbikes. Street vendors from Africa and Asia have also been targeted.

"For a lot of people in poorer neighbourhoods we are liberators," crowed Yiannis Lagos, one of 18 MPs from the stridently patriot "popular nationalist movement"..

The class that started late August began on a Friday, as well. They, also, were given 2 days notice. It's hilarious that during the testing process they ask you repeatedly about prior jobs and if you gave adequate notification upon leaving those jobs. Seriously??

The problem rest with Tracy Ladner. She and she alone cancelled the class. Here's why.....Rahm promised the public 500 recruits by the end of December. So far NO recruits have been hired during the month of September. 31 August was the last class. The academy was expecting 125 per month. So far there are 127 recruits in-house. So do the math...373 recruits are needed to fill Rahm's promis to all. NOT going to happen.
Lastly, not all recruitsa got the last message that they were ax'ed from starting the academy. A few showed up for their dream career only to be turned away. As a matter of fact, one guy who is 39 years of age was to start. His birthday is this week. Guess what..he will NOT be hired now because he will be 40. This guy will be getting fucked big time.
Sorry, one more thing. The reason for the Friday start was to say to Moses that the city hired recruits in September.
This director of H/R needs to go. Everything she does turns to shit. What a goof.

It wouldn't be so bad if they gave you x-amount of time to move in. Instead, you have to live in the city on day 1 of the academy? Many people can't grab a place in a days notice, nor do we have the financial capability to. They need to extend the residency like EVERY other town and city and give you lee-way on when to move in. This day 1 BS is crap. It'd be nice to have a career going and get a nice handful of paychecks before running out to grab an over-expensive apartment in the city that wants first month/last month rent immediate as well as a security deposit usually. In this economy? LOL

And if there was a test for innovation and everyone passed it you would no longer be measuring innovation or creativity because everyone is doing it and therefore it's an oxymoron.

Now they are unemployed, without a paycheck waiting for HR to get their act together and send a class of new recdruits to the academy. How can Tracy Ladner not know there were problems with the class and wait until Thursday afternoon to make the decision?
Then a lone recruit shows up to the academy Friday morning at 0645 hrs for the new class. A former marine in his suit, who just broke a contract with the marines on Tuesday for his new job with the CPD. I heard the recruit did not show a reaction and left. He should have been paid for the day. The exempts know about Tracy ladner but she seems untouchable. At least give her a competent XO to correct all of her mistakes. This is an embarassment.

27 years ago I got something called a letter in the mail. Sounds really radical now. Anyway, this letter arrived two weeks before I was told that my appointment to the Chicago Police Department was approved and to report to 1300 W Jackson on a Monday morning at 0745 hours in conservative business attire... I was also told to bring certain things and to arrive on time.

Of course, certain people came late and didn't even bring a pen. They are bosses now. One guy took the law exam three times and couldn't pass it. Dumb as shit. Equivalent to mid high school type law.

On the last day in the academy, a few hours before some would report to their districts for duty, he tool the law exam one final time, in private, in the office of the sergeant in charge of the law department and lo and behold, he passed.

His father was a commander. And that was the most valuable lesson learned in that training class. Last time I checked, 94 out of 200 of that class were still on active duty. I will make that 93 in a few weeks when I go.

But can you imagine that? Getting a letter and two weeks notice. Like a decent human being might expect. No Tracy Ladner around then. Director of Personnel was always a sworn officer.

"OT- Does anyone know of or heard of the Public Pension Amendment that is in Springfield ? It pertains to our public workers pensions and the Illinois Constitution that protects it."

IMPORTANT
------------------------------------
Illinois Constitutional Amendment 49 sponsored by Madigan

On the November 6 ballot will be CA 49, a proposal to the Illinois Constitution. This proposal basically changes the Constitution so that the protections our earned pension benefits now have under the Constitution can be changed. We need to get the word out to vote NO on this proposal on November 6.

The full text of CA 49 can be found here (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=&SessionId=84&GA=97&DocTypeId=HJRCA&DocNum=49&GAID=11&LegID=67098&SpecSess=&Session=) — of particular interest is paragraph D.

An interesting article concerning CA 49 can be found here (http://couriernews.suntimes.com/opinions/letters/14953585-474/pensions-amendment-hides-true-impact.html).

The Illinois Community College Faculty Association's (ICCFA) position statement is here (http://64.107.108.142:81/iccfa/docs/CA49.doc) (Microsoft Word Document) and makes it very clear what this amendment is trying to change.

With just a little effort and sacrifice you can get a degree and get hired by the FEDS or some of those Police Departments in the northwest suburbs. You can make more money, do less, put up with less bullshit, have a secure pension, don't have to live in this toilet of a city, have better schools for your kids, live in better neighborhoods, work with better and more modern equipment, deal with less political bullshit.....etc.... get the picture I would have wrote more but I don't think they have the space here

If I was an applicant waiting to be called, and I saw how fuckin' disorganized a company was in the initial hiring and just couldn't seem to get their shit together, I would have some serious doubts abot if I REALLY wanted to work for such a fucked up organization.

Wow they all just got their first taste of how much the department can care less about the lowley P.O.'s. I must say the F-U sure came very early, but it will probably just prepare them for the fucking they will get the rest of their carrers by the brass. Get used to it guys, it's the norm around here.

This F- ng Madigan and crew need to be voted out of office.
They are one way and only out for what financially benefits themselves!

Just a thought...waiting till Friday the fifth of October makes all of them carry their own health insurance for another month. had they started last Friday they would have been covered the first day of the first full month of hire...

Speaking of hiring debacles... I saw this gem in the online Tribune today. Comrade rahm stated,
“From cradle to career … we are committed to helping our students succeed every step of the way,”
This is regarding rahm's plan to make CPS graduates 20% of the final applicants for city jobs.
Never mind the best applicant for the job.

Socialism at its best.

I saw that too and thought about it for a while. Since the best applicant for the job rarely gets hired by the City anyway, this is just Rahm being more "transparent." Plus, since probably 30% of City employees are CPS grads already, this isn't that relevant. Good PR

Retired 10 years ago and have a son with an MBA and successfully employed. He always wanted to be a police officer and took the Power test and other pre-employment tests a couple of weeks ago.
When the time came for him to follow up with the psych testing he decided to take a pass. At first I was a little surprised and disappointed as he has a couple of cousins who are the police and would have been the third generation in the family. But then I sat and thought about it and wondered why would I advise anybody, especially a male white in their mid twenties to come and work here.
Talk about having a deck stacked against you. Unless you happened to be anointed from on high the chances for advancement are nil. The working conditions are horrible, management is incompetent, etc.........

Isn't the "CA" in CA49 "Constitutional Amendment"?

Wouldn't putting CA49 on the ballot in November allow the people of the state to vote on it?

Tell all your friends & family to VOTE NO ON CA49!

If they are having trouble getting enough people to pass all phases of the hiring process...why are they adhering to the ridiculous and arbitrary min age of 25 rule? We never needed it before and it is keeping the young go-getters from coming on the job in their prime "chase" years. By the time these recruits finally get hired and pass their probation, they are in their 30's and not willing to do half of what they might have been capable of. Serve your country at 18, drink at 21, but NO policing in Chicago until 25? Useless and arbitrary...

R u kidding me? These idiots need to be taken to court and really screwed. I along with many got disqualified from the 1991 test unfairly. There was suppose to be a lawsuit but never materialized. Lost 4 year because of that. Now the idiots just keep going along. Whoevers in charge needs to go now

9/29/2012 09:18:00 AM

I would like some answers to this as well, twenty years later. Was supposed to start October '91 but was then disqualified, I guess - I had to go back for a reinterview but was never told why, and was hired then two years later. Some mentioned a lawsuit was filed but I never heard more. Heard it happened to a dozens of M/2 applicants.
