Casualty Count Rises

The two dead, five wounded has been amended by the Tribune to three dead and eight wounded for Friday/Saturday night. The best line of the night?
  • Butler and his cousin were in the 900 block of North Drake Avenue after 1 a.m. Saturday, police said. Their attacker approached on a bicycle and fled the same way. Butler lived across the street from where police found him.

[...] Police described Butler's surviving cousin as "uncooperative" and said he told responding officers "you're the police, you figure out what happened" when asked for details about the shooting.

Don't worry dumbfuck, we'll put our best people on it right away. Enjoy your shortened lifespan by the way, because we're pretty sure you've got next, one way of the other.

And the mayhem continues Saturday into Sunday night:

  • A 17-year-old boy was shot blocks from where police shot a 17-year-old boy hours earlier in the Gresham neighborhood Saturday night.

The boy was among at least four people wounded since Saturday morning in a small section of the city’s south side bordered by 67th and 79th Streets on the north and south and Ashland Avenue and the Dan Ryan expressway on the east and west.

It's about time to rename 79th Street since so many bad things happen around there. Something light and happy sounding. Maybe something like Rainbow Valley Road or Sparkly Glitter Way or Rahm's Colon.

NOT a cop here, somehow stumbled on your site awhile back. Became APPALLED by the DAILY CONSTANT CARNAGE that you men deal with.
Been busy working 2 jobs and have not been to SCC in a couple weeks.
Back again at SCC and it HITS ME RIGHT IN THE GUT >
THE SHOOTINGS, THE KILLINGS, THE MURDERS,
IT JUST NEVER STOPS, NEVER STOPS, NEVER STOPS, NEVER STOPS.
So MANY many slaughtered the human brain can't even begin to remember a tenth of it all.
This will sound corny, but I'm off to church to FORGET everything I just read here. God forgive me, my mind is just to small to absorb the mountain of violence and daily killings that Chicago has become.
I'm a bricklayer, my job is brutal in terms of DUST, HEAT, cold, HEAVY heavy work, my back literally aches - BUT it's easy compared to what you men face.
But I really really COULD NOT do on a daily basis what you cops do; it is your job to put the blankets over the bodies laying in the streets, alley's, basements, parks, - - I don't know how you men do it. May GOD be with you guys who work in the violent area's, May GOD be with your minds and hearts. I absolutely could NOT do what you all do. It would rip my heart out and I'd have to quit, and be a WallMart greeter or something.
Seriously, I FEAR GOD is giving us over to ourselves in this nation, we don't mention GOD in schools to children, and now children are killing each other.
I SERIOIUSLY fear America is headed for the abyss.

The Tribune is dutifully reporting homicides per instructions from the mayor's public relations (propaganda) office. Just like King Richy ordered the Trib to report on the number of CPS students murdered, Emanuel is having the Trib spin stories in his favor.

Check it out, the media is reporting homicides as occurring in small areas away from the Loop and north side. A few days ago it was "no homicides reported north of Division St." Today the paper read:

"The two were among 12 people shot since 11 a.m. Saturday, including four teens wounded in a small section of the city’s South Side bordered by 67th and 79th Streets on the north and south and Ashland Avenue and the Dan Ryan expressway on the east and west."

Emanuel is like a frightened rat right now. His fantasies of running for president are over and right now he is just trying to hang on to his career as an elected politician. He will order news that negatively affects him to be spun every which way. Read between the lines.

well rahm has created a monster, the teachers are not folding like he wanted. if he had handled this in a civilized manner it could have been settled. he thinks he can throw his weight around like he did in dc. and his next move will be to defame the teachers.

I was a small child in Park Forest about 53 years ago. My brother was born in a hospital in Harvey. Is Park Forest safe now? Is Harvey safe?

Thirty years ago I was travelling south on I57 and heard on my CB radio (does that date me?) that there was a two hour holdup at I80. I checked my map and realized that there was only one exit between me an I80 -- highway 50. I looked up and saw it and got off. I saw a gas station and pulled in. The attendant was helpful, but looked at me like I was a crazy man. I filled up and left. Some months later, my friends looked at me like I was superman and asked how I had survived. I just said it was 20 degrees below zero and no one was out and about who didn't need to be. I lived in Minnesota at the time so it wasn't a big deal to me.

Was it that hazardous at the time at I57 and Illinois 50? (The maps seem to have changed since then, but it is the interchange on I57 just north of the I57/I80 interchange.)

Is Harvey safe?

Is Park Forest safe? Someday I might want to visit there. My parents are gone, but I have the address.

I don't plan on visiting anyone I know in Chicago, or giving you any tourist dollars. My wife wanted to go back there, but the stories I hear on this site and the other news sites have persuaded me that it is not a good idea to go to Chicago.

Perhaps borrowing from my past you could use "the street with no joy" That was the name often used for Highway One in South Vietnam.

10:21PM, you serious?

Harvey might as well be Somalia(seriously, Iraq has better infrastructure), Park Forest isn't much better.

They're sorta safe during the day time, but that's because the zombies are sleeping.
