...and Another Shooting

  • Chicago police shot and wounded a man who, according to a police union official, advanced an officer while wielding a tire iron late Sunday night in the South Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side.

No officers were injured in the shooting that occurred just before 11:30 p.m. in am alley in the 200 block of North Lockwood Avenue, according to Chicago police and the Independent Police Review Authority.

Officers assigned to violence reduction in the area stopped to question four men in an alley near Fulton Street and Lockwood Avenue when two of the men ran away, said Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police, which represents the department's rank-and-file officers.

As the officers chased after the fleeing men, one of the cops hopped a fence to search a nearby alley when he was accosted, according to Camden.

"All of a sudden the bad guy jumps out of the bushes with a tire iron in his hand," Camden said.

"Needless to say, he got shot," Camden said.
All officers are OK.

I think that President Camden should get off the HIRE MORE OFFICERS bandwagon. This is where any new dollars would go. I would rather be paid more. We cannot strike to save our step raises. WE CAN WORK OVERTIME to earn more money, but is that what I want to do NO! I want more money for the work I do.

It is pandering to the retirees to get more people paying into the system. I think HIRE MORE OFFICERS is a NOT a solution to any of the CPD problems.

We need more money in the paychecks, on the step raises, because no one (less than 10% maybe) is getting promoted on this job. Out of grade pay, D2, D2A, and D3 are going the way down a narrowing path.

Hire new police does not help me, President Camden what other negotiation items are on the table?

Good job officers, I am glad you are ok. Cant wait to see the lawsuit, I was just protecting myself, I didn't know he was a cop, thought the guy was trying to rob me, I would never hurt an officer. Why did he shot me?

OT- but hilarious. My buddies work in 020 and were ordered to get contact cards by the end of their shift. They were told if they did not get any they were to drop a TO-FROM if they did not. At the end of their tour the Sgt was upset and said drop paper.

Now I don't remember what was written on the to from but it was something like, show me where there is an oder where R/O has to write a contact card and where is the quota?. The Sgt takes it and Trahanas-sp, gets ahold of the paperwork. She flips out and goes to roll call and goes off on the P.Os. She tells on of the P.O.s, "I looked up your activity for the year, you have not written a mover all year, is this correct?' Officer says, "No, I have not written a mover in 7 years".

She then tells them that she is going to ride with them that night and show them how to get contact cards and movers. You can't make this shit up. It is freaking hilarious. Sounds like the Sgt was trying to bully that watch into getting contact cards and was called on his bluff. And then penny to actually go out and ride with them? Wow, why is it that in 020 they have nothing but BOZOs?

Hey Penny you can't find your ass hole cause your ass is too big, do you think you can find a mover, and to the Sgt who told them to drop paper, you are a dumb ass. Pull out the order and show me where we are told to write X amount of contact cards!

To all arrogant people that we dont need more help hey "BS" we need more help for our own safety. All of us want to make more money no doubt about that but I also want to go home every night to my family. Wheather your the working police or the dogs that sit and hide behind some building hey its not safe for us anywhere. Stupid calls sometimes end up being dangerous sometimes and if wheather you like or not sometimes you got to go support your coworkers. Im not saying then stop getting yourselfs into crazy shit im just expressing that the nature of the beast just comes your way at times as well. More police a better chance of all of us going home safely. Its not for the mutts out there cause they dont give a shit its for us!!!!

"Pandering to the retirees?" You might get to be a retiree someday you punk goof motherfucker. How's this, I want to see your pay cut by 5% and I want that money to go into the pension fund so there will be a pension fund when you get ready to leave.

Or you can simply quit and go where they appreciate you enough to pay you what you think you are worth. As far as I am concerned, you aren't worth shit.

Why is Vice Using CeaseFire to Sell a Game About Revenge Killing?

"There's one more sad layer of irony to all of this. Vice is represented by Mayor Rahm Emanuel's brother, Ari. I can imagine the mayor pulling strings to have his brother's client make a documentary about the group the City just gave $1 million to in order to help reduce violence in Chicago communities. But I can't imagine he'd approve of his brother's client using footage of violence interruption to help sell a video game about revenge killing"

To the 1st poster who believes that hiring more officers is only pandering to the retiree's and is not of benefit to the CPD.

1: You obviously are not the police.

2: If you have fooled me and actually are the police, you need some counselling on safety; as in personal on the job safety and future financial safety as well as a number of other issues I'm sure your working brethren will be glad to chime in with also. Keep safe.

Yahoo artical....
Stressful careers are correlated with higher divorce rates
As much as we might endeavor to keep our professional and private worlds separated, choosing which career to pursue can have a profound impact on our future love lives — especially regarding high-stress jobs. “Law enforcement sees an overwhelming amount of divorce,” notes Stacey Dillon of Public Safety Authority Medias. “We have attended national conferences that show state police work sees the highest rate of divorce — an estimated 80% likelihood. Police associations attribute this to the job, as it requires [an individual] to be a police officer 24/7. State laws require them to respond to any crime at all times. The profession puts a great demand on families.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, the high stress level associated with routine police work subsequently makes relationship stability harder to maintain.

Let me tell you something. I've known Pat since he was a Police Officer in media relations under Jenkins. He's the best spokesman you can ever want. Ive seen him on many police shootings and he is the best. The media listen to him because of his experience. Acquiring him by the FOP was the best move Ive seen them make in 22 years. You young guys listen to him and follow his directions to the letter, if you get involved in something which requires him. We had no one speaking for us prior to him other than the city and they sell the officer down the river. Pat, if you read this, keep up the good job and us older guys really appreciate you because we've seen it in the past.
