New City Sticker

It's beautiful!

  • City Clerk Susana Mendoza unveiled a city vehicle sticker with a simple design Tuesday as she sought to move beyond the controversy that erupted when she yanked a teen's winning sticker artwork amid concerns it might contain street gang symbols.

The new version, done in-house, sticks with the theme of honoring Chicago police, firefighters and paramedics that was the focus of the annual sticker competition the 15-year-old boy won this year.

The teen's sticker contained depictions of upraised hands some law enforcement experts said may have been designed to imitate the hand signs of a notorious Chicago gang. The replacement sticker features crests of the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Fire Department and the symbol for paramedics. The slogan “Honoring Chicago's Heroes” appears at the bottom.

And this hilarious bit:

  • While trying to focus on the new sticker features, however, Mendoza kept getting questions about the earlier controversy.

Mendoza said she presented the original winner with a $1,000 savings bond to match what he would have received for having his drawing used on stickers. The clerk said she has reached out to the boy and his family to talk with them further, but they have not responded.

Couldn't be because Herbie was in jail again, could it? Oh wait, the media won't report his record for car theft and burglary. Sorry.

The sticker did have gang symbols and ole boys entire family are criminals. call it like it is. thats why i hate this city and the media here. sugar coating everything and afraid to tell the truth. And more importantly, where does it NOT go? It doesn't go into the pension fund, that's for sure.

It is going to build a brand new $250 million Malcolm X College so the students can at least read when they graduate college. And what about the current Malcolm X College? That's Rahm's secret.

Rahm was quoted as saying he would not tell the young folks that they couldn't get an education so he spending a quarter billion on a new school.

But he has no problems telling police officers and firefighters that they might not get health insurance or a pension.

This asshole Rahm is making Daley look benevolent.

Waste of time and money -- bumps in the street, go-arounds, planters and trees and new sidewalks in front of empty stores, stupid "This Is A Real City" banners flying from phony "antique" lamp posts in neighborhoods where a decent person is afraid to walk...

Now! Emanuel wants 20 new parks to seed and water and maintain and rebuild and remodel for 100 years after he's gone.

Now! Thousands of Alison Cohen's "Made In Canada" pay-to-bicycles for the rubes to get knocked off and robbed or worse. Like Emanuel, she had to do with Goldman Sachs too, as a real estate investment banker while the going there was good, and like SCC mentioned she does know Gabe Klein from another bike deal --

http://www.phillyfunguide.com/event/detail/440820069/Capital_Bikeshare_the_Good_
the_Great_and_the_Challenges

Very "transparent" here, as we were promised. Hell, it's right in the Fun Guide, for anyone to see.

Now! The Chicago River to be turned into a pristine "family destination" for about the third time, already planning more lousy restaurants, more riverwalks, more boathouses.

Every day, more of this nonsense. Some woman soaked up TWENTY SHOTS in a gang killing the other night...nothing to see here, folks.

Come downtown and idly sip a ten-dollar cocktail while your house is foreclosed on...these people are not on the same planet.

There are only so many "community centers" and "performance spaces" and "loft condominiums" and now "business incubators" you can make out of what used to be productive factories.

The "enterpreneur" in the "incubator" is gonna make a new stain of some kind on the Internet, gonna bake a new type of gourmet cookie, microbrew another expensive new microbeer, gonna provide a dog-walking service that streams back real-time video of Fido taking a dump, and all the trendies will sell this crap to each other.

I mean, like, really, gag me with a spoon, you know?

They are frantic; this stuff is cycling faster and faster. It's all they have.

Should we all move to San Francisco again for Dotcom Boom/Crash II?

The Houston real estate market still hasn't come back from the Enron collapse...

Etc., etc.

Oh. Today Emanuel is trying to "re-finance" the empty Michael Reese Hospital property...

I am afraid to go to sleep anymore. Something else will have been sold off or stolen or had a "fee" tacked on by the time I get up again.

Emanuel reminds me of the Devil in "Bedazzled" (1967), working 24 hours per day, actually taking phonograph records out of their wrappers one at a time, scratching them, and putting them back -- personally going to the trouble of climbing up phone poles to mess with the wires and interfere with someone's call.

It's really something.

Seriously off topic but Rep LaShawn Ford is chairing a task for studying Right To Carry. CPD had a representative testify. Here is a description of his "expert" testimony. WFT????

I didn't get the credentials down for the officer speaking on behalf of Chicago Police Dept. but I
believe he was a Commander with the gang unit. He said he was basically there to oppose CCW because of increased
threat to officer safety. Officers would have to worry about every stop they make there might be a gun
present. If officer came up on a live shooting, they wouldn't be able to tell who was the good guy.

Ford: Aren't officers trained to responds as if everyone they encounter is armed?
Officer: yes

Ford: How do officers in the other 49 states deal with people who are carrying legally?
Officer: didn't know

Ford: If gun crime weren't so high in Chicago, would you support CCW?
Officer: couldn't say

Ford: Why is Chicago opposed to CCW?
Officer: It creates unsafe environment - more guns means more crime and increases threat to officer safety.

NRA Lobbyist Todd Vandermyde pointed out at this time that the Chicago Sgt. and Lt. support CCW.
Todd: How many of the illegal guns you take off the street belong to FOID card holders? CPF holders? Registered?
Officer: Didn't know

States Att. Assoc. rep: Aren't officers trained to deal with a whole list of Constitutional Amend. everytime they encounter someone?
(He listed a number of them).
Officer: Yes

States Att. Assoc. rep: If the 2nd Amend comes into play with CCW, what would you want included
in the law to help officers with this?
Officer: Couldn't say, I'm just here to oppose the bill.

Ford pointed out that CPD has not entered into the discussion of CCW, no cooperation. Suggested officer go
back and seek input from the CPD.

"They have not responded."

Well, thank God for small miracles.

This woman is the city clerk, not some kind of social worker. Her job is to count the money and keep the records straight, not to "reach out" to defectives and criminals.

This is starting to sound like a serious personal problem.

What, is she going to meet the father coming down the airplane steps in cuffs and leg irons when they finally extradite him from Venezuela?

Great photo op, huh?

Idiot.

Enough. Plain sticker, alternating to a different basic color every year.

"Affecting To Support Chicago's Undermanned Heroes While We Nibble Away At Their Pensions."

What undesirable social agenda is going to be on these things next year?

Agreed, particularly since a State law REQUIRES that the City pay its portion into the pension fund.

Rahm Emanuel has stated to the media that HE WILL NOT make payments into the fund until there is reform. THAT puts him in violation of the law and he should be prosecuted.

I teach in a CPS high school -- one of my current students was hospitalized for mental health treatment two years ago and shared a room with HP, who himself was receiving therapy for having: 1. assaulted his mom 2. ODed on hallucinogenics and 3. carved tattoos into his arms with a safety pin and a ball-point pen. (Note long-sleeved shirts in all press photos) My student reports that he was "nice" but a nutjob banger. The media should talk to students more -- they know everything, including why their schools don't work.
