Help is on the Way

  • As many as 500 troopers from the Illinois State Police will assist the Chicago Police Department in handling thousands of protesters expected to descend on Chicago during the May 20-21 NATO summit, City Hall sources said Friday.

    The 500-trooper contingent would represent nearly 40 percent of the statewide total, raising questions about how the State Police would be able to juggle their other responsibilities to patrol state expressways and tollways and perform other emergency functions.

    Monique Bond, a State Police spokeswoman, refused to discuss the assistance or what it might cost.

Whoops, there's Monique (our ex-wife). Hi honey.

And the state troopers aren't the only ones coming around:

  • Earlier this week, the Illinois National Guard disclosed that as many as 600 of its troops would help move international delegations around the city during the summit.

    The National Guard also revealed that it has scheduled an emergency response drill outside the city during summit weekend so even more of its troops can be summoned to Chicago in the event of largescale trouble.

So we can safely assume the CPD is down at least 1,100 if that's what we're borrowing from ISP and the IL National Guard.

Anyone seen the deployment plans yet? Anyone have any idea what our second-watch people are in for? Anyone know what happens if the protestors stage a May Day Parade next week?

Monique bond was a pr person for CPS or for the city as of fall of 2010. If it is the same person. She gets bounced around a lot, or shielded when she messes up? Again, if it is the same person. If not, reminds me of Beverly Hills Cop, that would be a UNIQUE coincidence...

I'm hoping this whole fiasco will shed more light on the incompitency of our department heads. We are going to get hurt for what? Money? Budgetary cuts? Political positioning?

It's a shame the people running it are so far removed from reality that they actually believe they are the best and brightest the department has to offer.

We are FUCKED!

Heh..all that money being exported from the city while the cities businesses and residents are put in harms way.

The Illinois State police, Illinois National Guard, Federal Secrete Service, FBI, CIA, Army, Navy, Seal Teams...whatever.

Funny how this money being spent doesn't contain a "residency clause" like the wages of the officers of the CPD eh?

Why don't they just assign the Guardian Angles to provide security?

At least the city would see some trickle down economics from that.

Instead all this money that we've been told will benefit us is being exported.

We just might see the largest protest since 1886 some say.

rahm boy also ordered 5,000 cardboard stand up CPD officers that he will have strategically placed to ward off any wrong doers.

All the command staff drafted this idea & rahm likes it.

He can now say he put 5000 more police on the streets.

Too bad the protesters aren't cardboard !!!

rahm boy is sooooo smart !!!!!!!!

As one of the department's great ideas, all the officers they trained in riot control and wearing turtle gear will be hidden behind the line or even on different streets. They don't want the big bad police to scare the citizens. Second watch will be the front line while in uniform of the day. I feel bad for the officers on second watch. No training and being thrown to the wolves.

Does anyone have a concrete schedule for the tactical team during May or The Summit. A lot of us have kids and need to make daycare plans. When do we start 12hr days? When are RDO's canceled? Or like everything else, the Order will come out two days beforehand and we will have to scramble to make arrangements.

Now at roll call they're announcing that the uniform of the day will NOT be cargo pants. WTF??
They also said no baseball style CPD hats only the stupid old fashioned crown hats with the actual shield on them!
This department is FUBAR'ED.

There is going to be a whole lot of entertainment value for the coppers who can take the time to appreciate it when it happens. Watch portions of the crowd surge in a direction and the response of screaming on the radio for help when the crowd isn't even doing anything but messing with the police brass minds. It will be fun and ugly. Stay safe.

I'm pretty sure that at least the State's boots on the ground are actually dignitary protection and everything associated with that part of it. 500 can be controlled by the G, supplemental "secret service etc.," Putting them with us wouldn't make any sense. They will probably keep them together in order to keep more control on things. Not sure, though, just a thought

I have and idea. Lets start distributing flyers in 007 and 011 letting the local shitheads know that it is a free day at the protests. That they can behave in their usual manner, robbing, raping, shooting, as much as they want with the protesters. This will solve two problems. First, the protesters will be too busy getting paper as victims and then too scared to go back. That will solve the issue of protesters. The second will be that with the bulk of the shitheads gone from the two violence zone districts it will give the illusion that making POs do laps in a box was actually a great and effective tool in combating violence. Man, I should be a gold star, coming up with genius ideas like this instead of the old rehashed/repackaged ideas.

You arrogant, know nothing prick. Have you ever been to Rockford (which by the way is way north of I80)? The ISP does a job that would make you shit your pants. 10-99 ALL the time. Making stops on the highway at night when the nearest backup could be MANY mIles away. Ask PO's from 005 or 011 about getting back up from ISP. You need to lose the idea they we are the only police out there.

To our ISP brothers and sisters: this jagoff speaks for no one but himself, the ignorant jagoff.

While most folks N of I 80 do not realize what ISP does, down here, they handle their calls on the interstates. Champaign County has over 100 miles of Interstates and US Routes and State Routes that ISP handles. Who is going to handle the wrecks that happen onthose roadways? Sheriff with 6 officers or Champaign PD with 11 and calls out the ass?

The LABOR cost for the ISP is easy to estimate. Figure each officer makes $50K/yr. That's $961.53 per week, per officer. But let's call it $962.

$962 * 500 = $481,000 for a week.

Don't forget taxes and benefits at about 30% so now you're at: $625,300 just in manpower costs for that week. You still have to add on the costs of:

* Uniforms
* Vehicles
* Weapons
* Ammo
* Mace/other chemical repellents
* Fuel
* Cleaning/disinfecting costs

Add on the costs of increased crime around the State as scumbags take advantage of the fact that the ISP won't be patrolling their areas.

Figure at least $2 million just for the ISP to deal with this NATO clusterfuck...

NATO SHOULD STAY HOME!
