- A suspect in the fatal shooting of a guard at a Far South Side grocery store was found hanged to death in a police lockup early this morning, hours after he was charged, authorities said.
Develt Bradford, 52, was found in the Area 2 lockup at 727 E. 111th Street at about 1:30 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was in a holding cell and apparently used his sweat pants or pajama bottoms to hang himself, according to Police News Affairs
Tie up the loose ends and put this one in the Exceptionally Cleared Closed file.

a guy who probably has a rap sheet since he was a kid murders a inocent securty guard. Now he kills himself thats good we won't miss him. But a locl up keeper will for sure get time off cause he did not properly check the cells, now the bad guys family will get a lawyer and sue the city and for sure win some $$$.

Have you ever worked a lockup? Not only is the area 30 years old and not the new style lockups but even the newest lockups don't have cameras in the cells.

On one of the evening news programs, they interviewed the female victim with her face concealed. She said the offender's suicide was either an admission of guilt or proof that they [police]put a case on him.
And the E2 club owners and the relatives of the E2 victims are saying the first responders are at fault.
In some quarters, we have no friends on either side of the fence.

I wish this was the case. the payout will probably be more than the trial. But at least the victims family can rest knowing that they don't have to endure a trial to put this to rest.

Glad to hear that this piece of shit decided to take his own life and save the taxpayers the responsibility of housing this individual along with paying the court costs. Bad news on the part of the lockup keeper. Hope it is true about the 15 minute cell checks because the news stated he commited the suicide within 10 minutes of being placed in the cell. Another bad thing is that a second suspect is still at large. GEU made an attempt to catch the suspect tuesday at his residence but as soon as they pulled away the suspect was seen by a civilian running out the back door. Units returned to the area but were not able to locate him. Due to Racoon Eyes and McShutup's idea of decreasing police numbers, there has not been any police presents in the area. The district units and tact teams have other major concerns to address in the district and can't be watching this area frequently. I know people are going to hate this thought but this is why TRU and the rest of the teams need to be around. I am not a LEO so can't carry, I strongly believe in the second amendment, but it seems just to be wishfull thinking sense chicago is run by bodyguarded politicions so they don't have to deal with the criminals first hand. Would be nice to arm ones self when you have a murder living on the same block.

Ah, another hard charger that never worked lockup chimes in with absolutely no clue about what goes on back there.
Are you one of the guys that brings injured prisoners to lockup and then gets pissed because the lockup keeper won't accept you damaged prisoner? Yeah, he was fine, it musta happened in the lockup, yeah, that's it. We didn't hurt that guy.
Do they have cameras on or in the cells? This is a privacy issue for prisoners. The only places they have cameras is to see what the police are doing, not the prisoners.
I worked lockup for about 10 years and I was fortunate that no one ever hung themself on my watch.
Another democrat heard from, everyone else doesn't do their job, but of course, you do.
To read the headline on Breaking news. "found Hanged" leaves the question of if the police did it. Nice reporting How about killed himself in the headline.

the lockup's have a buzzer system installed so if an offender gets up on the bench, stands up, and waves his hands,it goes off--alerting the detention aids.-This is designed so if morons reach a certain height, like to hang themselves, it goes off! However, the regular visitors set the alarm off all the time to get the attention of the lockup personnel cause they are too cold!
Its a shame that someone is going to take days for this antiquated system--and as usual, the department never fixes anything! Lock up checks are every 15 minutes--It only takes a matter of a few minutes for a guy to hang himself!

The family of the slain security officer should retain counsel and sue the dead offender's estate. We all know he has no estate until he died in CPD's custody.
Cleared open with arrest and prosecution. The other offender still at large.
