Short Leash?

  • With a $60,000-a-year budget, no staff and his hands pretty well tied behind his back, former New York City inspector general Faisal Khan got the go-ahead Monday to spend the next four years investigating City Council corruption.

The Rules Committee approved Khan’s nomination after being assured that Chicago’s first-ever legislative inspector general would be a part-time employee without benefits paid $250 to $300 an hour who intends to practice law on the side.

Khan acknowledged that the ground rules aldermen have established for the job are dramatically different from the restrictions he faced in New York.

In order to investigate Chicago aldermen, their staff members and committee employees, Khan will either need a signed and sworn complaint and prior authorization from a Board of Ethics with a do-nothing track record or the OK from the City Council’s Rules Committee to investigate an anonymous tip.

Which means that pretty much, the City Council and Rahm are pissing away $60,000 a year plus $250-300 per hour should anything of substance magically materialize. If God himself actually appeared in the form of a burning bush and told the litany of corruption that goes on in the City Council, this inspector general still couldn't investigate shit.

Chicago ain't ready for reform.

This is just a way to keep the Aldermen in line. Apparently the new boss of bosses hasn’t been fully accepted by all. We should expect to see only those at odds with Rahm investigated.

There is a curious sidebar to this. Daley used the U.S. Attorney to do his dirty work in the past. This move certainly suggests Rahm either does not enjoy the same privileges as Daley or he doesn’t want to call in favors. Either way it is an interesting move.

$250 to $300 an hour should buy a lot of loyalty from this prick.

**** Hmmmmm, does anyone else find this whole thing odd???

One of the largest single contributors to Rahm's campaign was a man named Shahid R. Khan. Any relation to Faisal Khan?? Khan is kind of a common name, but I'm throwing it out there, media trolls.

Why come to Chicago??

Faisal Khan's wife (PhD) has a contract to provide psychoeducational services for the New York City Department of Education(check out comprehendthemind.com). I'm not sure how much money she made, but it would be interesting to see if she lands a contract here???

I'm sure it's nothing....

Faisal Khan.

Keep that name in mind. It'll probably be the last time we ever hear it, because, as everyone knows, there's NO corruption in Chicago!

I would not blame the mayor for this shame. Burke runs the city council and he is not ready to let anyone investigate what he does or what other alderman do with the money that is allocated to them, what they do with their time and who they associate with. The rest of the world uses their paycheck to pay for their work expenses. the alderman pocket their entire paycheck and get an expense account to pay for their car, their phone, their meals, etc. And, to hire cronies off the books.

Plus, including his salary and ALL other expenditures, the total amount for his office max's out at 100K. There is no staff.

That leaves 40K at his diposal to watch over the most slippery bunch of eels that have ever slimed the earth.

And, if you dig a little deeper, you might just find they are charging him a whopping 3K a month for the slop-sink closet he will be using as an office. At least he will not have to travel down the hall to get a drink and take a piss. The remaining 4K will buy one or two exotic lunches on the government tab.

The City of Chicago Legislative IG Khan is not married...he's from NY with no connections to the City of Chicago hierarchy. It's true - they gave him no staff, no investigators and very little authority (since anyone claiming that an Alderman has done something wrong must sign an affidavit first) but he's a good guy and if given the opportunity he'll prove himself. Sit back, be patient this could be interesting. SCC, you should reach out...stir the pot a little.

An IG who can't investigate fully any matter brought before him, impartially and with no restrictions, is no IG at all.

He has to get written permission from the aldermen in order to investigate them?

Chicago is a lot like Penn State in many ways.

I doubt it ever will. Wither Chicago is rolling in money or a ghost town, it will always be as corrupt as it's officials.

And sadly, the corruption is so well institutionalised it would be as hard to root out as the corruption in Afghanistan, and for the same reasons.

We hate them...

Nevertheless did you catch what happened down in Springfield? VIDEO

Anyone see the FOP in there?

It's you pensions they're getting in the faces of the lawmakers for...and in spite of the political apparatus attempts to block access to the rotunda by filling it with friends of the lawmakers.

----clip from capitolfax.com-------

From the video’s caption…

Occupy Springfield, IL. visits the Illinois State Capitol Building. We had a “press conference” in the rotunda, without a permit because a permit had been given to Comcast for ALL THREE DAYS OF THE VETO SESSION! Not only was this action successful in and of itself, but it cought the attention of Illinois Lawmakers who have now asked Occupy Springfield, IL. to speak before a Senate Committee on the 15th of November regarding SB[397]. It is not a total victory unless that bill does not get passed into law, but an 8 minute action leading to a face to face meeting is inspiring, to say the least!

Why must he have a signed affidavit? Police officers as public employees are investigated merely on an anonymous complaint, let it be the same for this guy. If it cannot be then what's the point? I don't have 250-300 extra tax dollars to give someone for a bullshit position. Isn't that what the city inspector general's office is for? Duplicate work for extra money. Sick of it.
