PO Hester Scott Cleared

  • Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy on Tuesday ordered the badge posthumously restored to a Chicago Police officer allegedly murdered by her grandson.

That means slain Officer Hester Scott can be buried with her police star.

  • “Officer Scott’s star will be returned for her funeral,” Police Department spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton wrote in an e-mail to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Pressed to explain why, Hamilton wrote, “Officer Scott was a 25-year veteran of this department and a murder victim, and the superintendent felt this was the right thing to do for her and her family.”

No word on the "right thing" after she was cleared by DCFS investigators. IPRA, of course, had no comment.

On a side note, whomever is posting all the BS about how the president of the FOP "got it done" and how we "owe" him some sort of apology for imagined offenses, check out the timeline of his meeting with McJerseyShore and then check out the blog postings. If anything, our readers and the postings derived from our readers laid out what would eventually be the end result seen in the paper Tuesday. We allowed a lot of crap to go through our comments during the last election. Don't take that as some sort of permission to come on here and start the new campaign running on some imagined record of success. You sound like Obama.

If I was the family id tell mcstupid to shove the star up his brazilian waxed ass. She's good enough to be the police now that she's dead but wasn't when she was alive.

Way too little, way too late.

This officer is DEAD. Something that never shuld have happened. Now The Supt and Shields at FOP think that they are getting blowjobs because of this? They need to be screaming for Rosenweig's head on a pike!

Thank God it was done - long overdue. R.I.P. Officer Scott.

Being buried with her star and her star being returned for her funeral are two very different things.

Whomever wrote that she would be buried with her star is sadly misinformed. As always, the star will be retrieved just before they close the lid.

No sworn member, regardless of the determination, whether it be killed in the line of duty, died in the perfirmance of duty, died while on-duty and so on down the line, is ever buried with their star, however, with permission of the department, the deceased sworn member's star can be made available to be used for the viewing and services, but it will be retrieved before burial.

Is she really going to be buried with her badge or a replica? The reason I ask; I just saw the star display at police headquarters and wondering why none of those officers killed are buried with their?

The city has no obligations to 25 year veterans, obligations into perpetuity are only reserved for the politically connected.

Nothing but truth here. Take it as you will. The current president of our FOP runs the security for General Iron. Said company is headed by Howard Labcon (sp). Said Howard is a contributor to our Mayor's campaign/machine. Our FOP president has been very quiet since taking office. I was (maybe still am) a supporter of the current FOP president. Nothing I've said is untrue or up for debate except for the last sentence. That is all.

Why wasn't the FOP fighting for Hester's rights all along? How sad she gets her star returned when she is dead.

on your side note: Shields Nov Newsletter says "When you read this veto session will be over" IT's not over, it's not over til they say, they can extend, but it looks like they are talking about coming back for Special Session.
Experience might have been valuable here.

After she is dead they clear her, a little late. Why didn't they clear her 3 months, 6 months, or a year after the accusations? What a bunch of assholes! (all the higher ups and IPRA/OPS) And what about all the others being held hostage?

Screw this department. I have already left written instructions that, God forbid, I should buy it on this job that I am not to be buried in a CPD uniform and no politicians or exempts are allowed at the wake or funeral.

Its the right thing to do because she was a victim of murder. Not because she was cleared of any wrong doing. That pretty much sums up the level department brass idiocracy we deal with on a daily basis.

1st off, rest in peace officer Scott, you definitely deserved better than what happened to you in this lifetime!! CPD brass should be ashamed, embarassed, disgusted and downright angry at themselves that they "allowed" this to happen to one of their own.

All we were taught throughout this job is that we ALWAYS take care of our own which is complete BS!! Look at what happened to this poor lady.

IPRA has run its course. They do not investigate anything, they go on witch hunts. This one life that was lost can be traced back to IPRA and their inability to use fair judgement on accusations.

I hear the words "no confidence" tossed around this forum all the time. There cannot be a more tragic event than what happened to P.O. Scott to define "no confidence" in what IPRA has built themselves into.

Its a funny thing how P.O.'s are required to make statements when IPRA comes calling But IPRA is not even commenting on this. A full investigation should be revealed and every single person involved in P.O. Scott's case should be held accountable for the decisions they made on her accusations.

I truly hope P.O. Scott's family/friends hire a very skilled & motivated attorney to investigate what happened and how this savage was able to fool the system.

Bye the way, real slick move on reinstating her star posthumously. The most insulting move the department could've made, way to grab the media attention while the story is still popular. It really shows how inappropriate IPRA and CPD brass handled Scott's case that they were so quick to clear her....after she died of course.

I come from a family of police officers and was always told this is the best job to have. It is sad to say I am re-thinkning my future with this department and city. The more I think about this event, the more I truly believe that this is how things work and there is no change in my future at the very least. Hang on tight everyone, we are ALL gonna need luck on our sides to retire from this job with a little more than a penny to our name and our families intact!!!

This is disgusting. Hester should never have been stripped in the first place. If I were a member of her family, I would refuse to have her buried in uniform and would certainly refuse to allow her tainted star to be displayed. F**k IAD for its B/S.

Clout rules and exempts have a different standard. Look at DTEB and Cuello? It took JFLED 45 minutes to clear Cuello and Hester waits years for justice? A complete double standard.

We don't work for DCFS. Obviously you have never been under investigation and sent to call back. You may become a prisoner of war for years waiting for the dept to clear you.

How can it take years to clear her? Remember when Blinky got caught with her daughter and boyfriend having dope and guns in Blinky's condo? JFRAUD absolved Blinky of any culpability within a few hours. Oh that's right I forgot about the huge double standard this department operates under.

I need help if any knows of any attorneys that have dealt with things like this old email me at tanickascott@gmail.com
