Again?

  • Two Chicago police officers were indicted in northwest Indiana on charges they were paid by Latin King street gang leaders to shake down rival drug dealers, according to charges unsealed today.

Fifteen people, including Latin King leaders from Chicago’s South Side and northwest Indiana, were charged with racketeering in connection with 19 gang-related homicides and drug trafficking.

Fortunately, they waited until Friday afternoon to release this news, so it'll be old news by the time the rest of Chicago hears about it Monday morning.

The identity of the man responsible for loosing a few shots at the White House last week has been made public by the D.C. police but one little fact is being buried by every news report about this guy. He is linked to the Occupy movement. Yet the media refuses to make the connection explicit. Imagine how the media would be wailing if the guy was a Tea Partier! The problem is as old as Plato.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

is a Latin phrase literally translated as "Who will guard the guards themselves?" Also sometimes rendered as "Who watches the watchmen?"

[...]

This quotation is often[1] and incorrectly attributed to Plato's Republic. However, there is no phrase in the Republic which is parallel or directly synonymous to it. It is commonly cited with regard to the problem of how to ensure that persons entrusted to watch over the interests of the state do so faithfully. In the Republic, a putatively perfect society is described by Socrates, the main character in this Socratic dialogue. Socrates proposed a guardian class to protect that society, and the custodes (watchmen) from the Satires are often interpreted as being parallel to the Platonic guardians (phulakes in Greek). Socrates' answer to the problem is, in essence, that the guardians will be manipulated to guard themselves against themselves via a deception often called the "noble lie" in English.

[...]

In politics a noble lie is a myth or untruth, often, but not invariably, of a religious nature, knowingly told by an elite to maintain social harmony. The noble lie is a concept originated by Plato as described in the Republic.

Really?? I've been on the job for almost a decade, and never ONCE have I been "tempted", or even been close. I don't find the life of consorting with gangbangers, robbing people, and flashing my gun around to be a tempting lifestyle. This was not a case of falling to temptation. It was a case of two CRIMINALS that snuck their way into our ranks. Disgraceful and another black eye for an otherwise honorable police department.

Chicago PD has some serious problems with weeding out the Bad Apples from the Dept. before they are discovered to be involved heavily with Criminal Activity. The CPD IAD, and Supervisors of these bad Apple officers simply weren't doing their jobs. CPD should re-assign ALL IAD personnel to the field and re-hire experienced, retired Detectives with good records to do the IA Investigating. Chicago is now, along with NY and LAPD, looked at as the most corrupt in the nation, thanks to CPD mismanagement again. By the way, has that Fire Dept. Capt. who battered our guys while on duty been charged YET? If not, WHY?

"we have to draw police officers from the community at large. therefore we do not always get the highest quality." - McCarthy

guess what a$$hole, its pos politicians like yourself who decided to water down the test and hiring process a long time ago to ensure that people from all walks of life are able to be hired. there are a lot of people on this department who have been petty criminals and gangbangers before getting this job. what makes you think this won't carry over.

in large, a police officer needs a high level of moral values and intelligence. every day we are asked to make decisions dealing with the justice system, write intelligent and detailed reports, and testify in court, being questioned by some very successful and smart attorneys. we are expected to understand the law and the constitution and apply it to our jobs.

unfortunately, all through the ranks there are coppers who don't deserve to carry a star and a gun. people who can barely write their own name let alone write a detailed police report.

this department needs to screen new hires better. i don't want to sound like i'm coming down on the minorities either, some of the best cops i know are minorities. i am coming down on the dept and the city for allowing an extremely high rate of a$$hole criminals to get the same job for the same pay as me.

the only job they should have ever gotten with the city is cleaning the toilets i dump in at the station after lunch.

You are a complete idiot and political correctness has nothing to do with it, diversity has nothing to do with it. A thug is a thug and if someone has that mentality then they will never change. I am not being politically correct but too fucking bad. I tell it like it is.

Shit,

this makes me long for the morons who take "gratuities" from tow truck drivers for sending business their way.

We had a mobbed up cop working the property room and giving "heads up" to his organized crime buddies.

We still have a guy who is alleged to have been tied to hits on gas station owners. Utilize the interweb and do a search on the name "Zonis" and Chicago police. I'm afraid to post a link lest I end up with cement shoes and a date with some alewives.

Of course a former Superintendent, Rodriguez, was forced out in that scandal.

Shit.

I wonder what it's like to work for a real police department. Is there such a department?

You know a department where the exempts actually know what they're doing. A department where background checks keep bangers from getting hired. A department where "clout" doesn't help assholes get hired.

I'm going to have a drink now.

Complete pieces of shit! What a shame, and the EEOC hiring bullshit has to stop it's not relevant on the CPD! We are held to higher standards enough merit bullshit and quota fillers, we have test's, we have honest educated dedicated hard working Officers that will never get anything other then a blue helmet and a piece of hickory, because they are not connected nor quota fillers. expect more to come from this and yet, not one sgt or above supervisor will lose a dime or wink of sleep from this. SOS shit, is nothing compared to this.

At least Penn State cleaned the slate what will CPD do, launch to PO's and keep the amazingly clueless management.

This race/gender-based nonsense needs to stop.

Someone tell me how one can possibly, with a straight face, justify that a male needs to run a mile and a half in x minutes to succeed as a police officer, females are just as good as men, but a female only has to run in x+y. How a caucasian can score 97 percent, but a non-caucasian can score 83 percent and be hired first?

I hate this job. I hate what it has become. I hate what we have become. I look back at photos of myself at my graduation from the academy--I remember how I felt. I thought I could change things--make a difference. How naive I was. But never, in my wildest dreams, would I have thought my pension would be in jeopardy, that we would be looked upon with distaste by the mayor, that I would have to work alongside gangbangers.

You should be happy when you retire, look back on your career with fondness. Instead I am just sad. If I had more than a couple of years to go I'd kill myself. I truly feel sorry for those who have a longer time to go.

slightly OT:

Woman Gets Jail For Food-Stamp Fraud; Wall Street Fraudsters Get Bailouts

[...]

(Judge) Wingate was so outraged by McLemore’s fraud that he decided to serve her up the deluxe vacation, using another federal statute that permitted him to give her up to five years.

He ultimately gave her three years, saying, "The defendant's criminal record is simply abominable …. She has been the beneficiary of government generosity in state court."

Compare this court decision to the fraud settlements on Wall Street. Like McLemore, fraud defendants like Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Deutsche Bank have "been the beneficiary of government generosity." Goldman got $12.9 billion just through the AIG bailout. Citigroup got $45 billion, plus hundreds of billions in government guarantees.

All of these companies have been repeatedly dragged into court for fraud, and not one individual defendant has ever been forced to give back anything like a significant portion of his ill-gotten gains. The closest we've come is in a fraud case involving Citi, in which a pair of executives, Gary Crittenden and Arthur Tildesley, were fined the token amounts of $100,000 and $80,000, respectively, for lying to shareholders about the extent of Citi’s debt.

Neither man was forced to admit to intentional fraud. Both got to keep their jobs.

Anita McLemore, meanwhile, lied to feed her children, gave back every penny of her "fraud" when she got caught, and is now going to do three years in prison. Explain that, Eric Holder!

Here’s another thing that boggles my mind: You get busted for drugs in this country, and it turns out you can make yourself ineligible to receive food stamps.

But you can be a serial fraud offender like Citigroup, which has repeatedly been dragged into court for the same offenses and has repeatedly ignored court injunctions to abstain from fraud, and this does not make you ineligible to receive $45 billion in bailouts and other forms of federal assistance.

This is the reason why all of these settlements allowing banks to walk away without "admissions of wrongdoing" are particularly insidious. A normal person, once he gets a felony conviction, immediately begins to lose his rights as a citizen.

But white-collar criminals of the type we’ve seen in recent years on Wall Street – both the individuals and the corporate "citizens" – do not suffer these ramifications. They commit crimes without real consequence, allowing them to retain access to the full smorgasbord of subsidies and financial welfare programs that, let’s face it, are the source of most of their profits.

Why, I wonder, does a bank that has committed fraud multiple times get to retain access to the Federal Reserve discount window? Why should Citigroup and Goldman Sachs get to keep their status as Primary Dealers of U.S. government debt? Are there not enough banks without extensive histories of fraud and malfeasance that can be awarded these de facto subsidies?

Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/blogs/taibblog/woman-gets-jail-for-food-stamp-fraud-wall-street-fraudsters-get-bailouts-20111117#ixzz1eCOMXhmz

Just keep following the political orders to protect and enable the banking frauds and see how that "Broken Windows' bullshit turns out. CPD like many other PD's is already seen as mercenaries to protect the corporations.

Let Cooler Heads Prevail...

McMouth-Breather, 9.5 & the decaying alive anal whore media are trying to spin this as such a shock and surprise that CPD has been infiltrated.

This shit isn't new and because the political culture of Chicago is rotten and stinks like a dead whore in a catch basin.

Everybody dances, cries to whatever idol they worship, cutting and shitting on themselves while yammering about "dirty cops."

The bullshit begins and ends with the elected officialdom of this city establishing a detente with criminal organizations for a ready supply of muscle and votes in return for gaming established safeguards to allow "some of our guys" to infiltrate CPD.

It comes from the Mayor's Office...

When O.W. Wilson was going to reform the shit out of CPD, Daley I was nice enough to ensure Wilson's Administrative Aide was a made member of the Outfit...
Can't have these "outsiders" coming in reforming everything now... Just fuck with the Blue Suits in Patrol so nobody with clout gets hurt or exposed.

Former CAPS Director/avowed Police Hater & four corner shit-head Rever'rear-end V. Henry popped on multiple intercepts colluding with assorted alderfools, other make-believe clergy and gang-banging, dope-dealing murdering dogs in furthering the criminal enterprise at the expense of CPD and the captive taxpayers of this city.

All the way back to & even before "Bath-House John" John Coughlin & "Hinky-Dink" Kenna... CPD has always had to contend with the fuckery of the criminal-political class.

True reform with a screening process that has big, sharp teeth, scares the shit out of the criminal-political class of Chicago.

It means they won't be able to dictate the agenda of CPD. nightmare that "Those Coppers will come after us" which is why CPD is being walked to a standstill.

As far as the other half of the corruption equation, it would mean the miserable & long awaited death of diversity ("we're suing cuz we don't think enough of y'all look like and act like us!") & the promotion of such politically orchestrated stymies of CPD as an effective law enforcement entity.

Best candidates for the job. Period. End of discussion.

...And that isn't really a guarantee against a few fools with badges making the rest of us stink.

McMook had it half right... people who take this now doo-doo assed job with the ostensible premise of working it and surviving it for 20 to 40+ years for a comparative pittance of a pension, did not fall randomly from the sky.

(You "public vs. private sector pension" argument people pointed and laughed all during the 1990's about "you dumb cops working your asses off for $40k and I make $100k, gonna retire at 40... blah-blah-blah."

OK, we get it. You're pissed and scared but don't be mad at Policemen. We didn't do it to you and we hate that it happened as much if not more than you did. Enough hating already!)

'Tis a mean, hateful and peculiar season to be a Policeman...

There are so many forces at work that want to make "The Policeman" nothing more than a footnote in history and a museum curiousity.

We'll all be old, sick and half crippled with pain trying to explain to grandchildren what it was we did in what used to be Chicago... Provided President Rahm hasn't incited the public through the media to hunt down every Blue Suit for a bounty for not going along with his agenda...

Here Lies The Policeman 1829 - 2012

P.S.

For you guys & gals out there thinking your particular brand of slick will keep you from getting caught up?

So called coppers much slicker than you are rotting in prison for bein' on dat bullshit.

To the rest of The CPD Family...

Stay safe and make yourselves small, hard to hit targets... Don't trust the current fools in charge or turn your backs on them.

Work the job like you have no friends...

Back in the 80's I was pulled over in a SW burb for speeding. The cop saw my White Sox baseball program and I told him I was at the game the previous night.
He said: Sox fans get a pass today but don't speed again or I'll give you multiple tickets.
I've always believed that MOST you cops are regular guys, pay your bills the honest way, treat people fair, etc. I've always believed that, at 50 yrs old, I'll keep on believing it.
So don't sweat yourselves over the few bad apples, they will eventually slip in their own mess and expose themselves.
Now if I could only get out of my recent traffic citation that I was pulled over for - - - -nope, the cop was right, I DID go thru that stop sign, and WILL be sending in the check for the ticket - ---

Bull shit, just rumors... coppers are the biggest fucken story tellers.. not worthy of telling story about how that rumor came about other than to say I worked there in early 90's when that ruler started.. never happened... we did have a guy locked up for insurance fraud, who as it turns out, was also a gangbanger (Discp.) during that time, and then the rumors took a life of their own....... but the roll call thing never happened..

Well ive worked with both of these officers. I cant say ive seen any wrong doing. They were both aggresive po/'s. Though if you noticed their have been alot of floating bodies in the lake. all m/4's and to their close P/O's they were'nt well regarded. If the feds have them id like to see some of these scum bag Latin kings statements against the police. Though this was a long ivestigation by the Feds. Everyone in 004th stay safe there could be problems.

--11/19/2011 06:10:00 AM

Check out the (often completely anonymous) "pharmacy aides" behind the counter at just about any drugstore in the city. 18 years old (16 with parental consent) and a HS diploma or GED and you're buzzed in the door, back there all day with all the best s__t in the world.

All the RIP tattoos are very confidence-inspiring, as is watching one of them idly picking at his hair-twists and then going back to counting pills without washing his hands. Gah.

Full access to all of your personal information, credit card numbers, etc.

Some of these people cannot correctly repeat simple doctors' instructions over the phone -- "Take one or two tablets every four hours as required" -- even given two chances. They are terrifyingly stupid and dangerous and have no business being where they are -- no more than that 18-year-old with the cardboard-stuffed vest signing out a ticket book and radio and taking a car out with The Real Police.

A very great deal needs to be done about this.

"Illinois, Chicago and Cook County easily the dirtiest, most corrupt when it comes to its politicians and police department."

It never ends. It's a culture of criminality that begins at the top and causes all those on down to try to get "theirs", too.

The only way to destroy it would be to nuke the metro area and start over. Oh wait, cockroaches reportedly survive radiation.

It never ends.

As a police officer iam embarressed!! First of all for the fact that two officers would tarish the image of this department and dishonor all the officers who died in the line of duty. Secondly as a Hispanic police officer.I myself grew up in Pilsen and was exposed to the streets at a young age. I knew which block was what and where not to go. I rose above my environment and never let it hold me down. It was not easy by any means but I knew at an early age education was my way out of being another satistic.Us as a department need to focus on the fact that these two officers at one time answered the calling of being a police officer, and it was their greed which led them to their dimise.

While the Department tries to remain above the fray, we are hampered by:

Bosses taking care of their guys: Abbate, Medziwhats his face and the like....

And the politicians and socially conscious nitwits taking care of the gang bangers, braids and twists, diversity nut jobs.

Bottom line is most coppers are decent hard working guys and get screwed by this.

Give a test. Hire in rank order off that test. Same for promotions. Race should no longer be a factor. Don't even ask any more. It's time.

Hey Moron, you sound like so many of the old timers in my district who did nothing while new on the street, and do even less now. I'll take a guy with less than five years of real, working police experience who beleives in our noble profession-and may still do-than an old dog who drives in the opposite direction from "women calling for help" or away from their peers who just stopped the car with "four heads in it". I've never been tempted in twent-two years and have found probably thirty-five thousand dollars between various traffic stops. My combative arrestees might have gotten a stitch or two, but they also got the green copy for all of their seized cash. You, sir, should stick some hair gel in your ass. It might facilitate getting some of the lead out of it. And are you thinking of Doyle, O'Connor, Ceriale, Camp and the countless others with only a few years on (and some only a few months) as you disparage officers less senior to you? Do us a favor and have some new kid help you put in a PAR form today so you can make your family miserable, not us.

The Latin Kings and other gangs have taken their drug profits and put them into legit storefront business operations. Then they buy the political protection from the aldermen. WE don't put money into the aldermen's pockets or get them votes, but the gangs do. That's a big reason why there is no call to hire more police.

Well said officer. Don't listen to the former post. I have 22 years on and I laughed at that poster's comment about temptation. I came on this job to provide a service to Chicago citizens. Although some citizens and some dept heads try to make that difficult through bullshit at no time have I ever considered doing anything illegal. Theft is theft, whether you steal from a bank or a drug dealer. What's the difference. There is no temptation on this job for regular cops, if you are a weak minded police officer, you should get off this job if you find there are temptations. I personally have never seen one in my 22 years.

Neither one of them were active Chicago Police Officers. One resigned over a year ago. Also, you all have the most arrogant, television hungry, sorry excuse for a leader as the head of CPD. This is also the man who is streamlining the police budget but who is paying the two Chiefs he brought in from New York $10,000.00 more a year than the veteran members of CPD. He is the same person that has announced over and over again that he will be here for seven years and he has not made one positive in his department in 7 months other than adding his Comp Stat meetings that prove to be a waste as he still has on staff a Deputy that isn't competent enough to run a Tactical Unit. He is also the same leader who adds petty comments and has brought discredit already to his department within his personal life from rumors of infidelity and police involved encounters coupled with public alcohol use.

Oh yeah, the mighty 16 th district, home of the brave officers who flaunt their weight around with working citizens, family of officers, and in many instances against officers themselves. Let's forget about the burglaries and robberies taking place throughout the district that is not important. Unfortunately 16 has very few officers who are worth a damn. wrong. cook county always has patrolled 115th. They have jurisdiction in garden homes 115-118 lawndale - pulaski and 115th street and the cemeteries between kedzie and rockwell along 115th belong to the county. the road is not Chicago or marionette park.. ccpd is not there because of requests because people are related to coppers... they are there because it is their jurisdiction. if you are immediate family(wife/husband/child) then you get a play for traffic if you are a decent person. Coppers who write other coppers immediate family who are respectful and apologetic should be ostracized. Im sure the ones saying they dont give plays to anyone are the ones with no family, no wives and no kids and THIS JOB IS THEIR LIFE. They have nothing to go home to except to dream about all the traffic they wrote today and that big dui they had the week before.
