Here We Go Again

  • Occupy Chicago protesters were back in Grant Park tonight after marching from Federal Plaza, and police appeared to be making ready to arrest scores of them after Grant Park's official closing time.

Initial police estimates put the crowd at about 1,500, but it had swelled by the time the marchers arrived at Michigan Avenue and Congress Parkway.

In the Plaza, protesters made speeches talking up the cause and declared their event peaceful. As the 11 p.m. park closing approached, several hundred decided to stay in Grant Park as a few hundred more moved across Michigan Avenue, off Park District property. A little before closing time, police began making announcements that anyone in the park after 11 p.m. would be in violation of municipal ordinance.

We'll have reports from on scene to see if any of the shortcomings our readers pointed out are being addressed. Hopefully, the gold stars down there learned some things and adjusted accordingly. Because you can bet the protestors and the anarchists are adjusting as we speak.

this copper is now under federal investigation because he killed a guy and its based off of a medical examiner watching an in car camera. the medical saw what she believed to be muzzle flashes as the man was on the ground and she said he shot the man while he was on the ground... you should watch the video scc, it shows the flashes are NOT MUZZLE FLASHES! The flashes the medical examiner saw in this video was the officers flashlight falling from his hand to the ground! watch closely, the video is on the sidebar of the story.... gmac rips this copper apart, maybe he should have watched the video too before opening his mouth. since when do coppers get stipped based on what a medical examiner saw on a video, which as you can see plain as day the medical examiner is wrong, its a flashlight, not a muzzle flash.

Cooperative protestors.
Preplanned sit-in. Or tent-in.

If it DOESN'T go better tonight than last week, fold up the Chicago Police Department, put it in your bag and go home.

Wow! What a clusterfuck here at Grant Park. The Gold Stars decided to start arresting protesters at 0100 hrs after warning them at 2300 hrs. Then two Stars Stars were approaching the protesters, one at a time and politely asked them if they were sure that they wanted to go to jail. Then 2 PO's locked them up, escorted them by a Cook County prisoner bus, where they waited in line for 15-20 minutes! It has been 3 hours and they are still making arrest! There were less then 100 people! These bosses are so fucked up, it's ridiculous! This is totally humiliating and shameful, we are in trouble come May with these brainiacs!

Our politicians are bought and paid for by the corporations plain and simple. They will continue to cater to where their campaign contribution money is coming from.

This is true for democrats as it it for republicans just look at the current presidential race as an example.

The nation is on the edge, we are in crisis and the politicians are running to corporate sponsored fund raisers instead of running the country and listening to the people. $3.5 million for one candidate and $7 million for the other raised so far and they are striving for one BILLION dollars each!

How's an individual going to compete with that? How is even a small business going to compete with that?

Does it not feel like the money the city saved by not contributing to the public pensions was used to fund corporate tax breaks -- followed by corporate campaign contributions in return to the politicians -- to keep the people in power so that the money circle-jerk with a little more systematic extraction of wealth with each go-around taken from the middle class can continue?

Or in simpler terms rob the pensions and social security and split up the bounty between the corps and politicos. One hand washes the other. You get a tax break I get a campaign contribution. You get protection from competition with laws written in your favor and I get a campaign contribution.

Sounds like tin-foil hat conspiracy stuff I know. However, I ask you to look how the private sector in Illinois just got robbed recently with regard to our payroll tax social security money. Washington gave the people a FICA tax break and the State of Illinois instantly raised the State income tax by the same amount taking the money away. As soon as the State got their hands on that money tax breaks were awarded to companies like Motorola. It's a transfer of wealth. Now it's your turn. Time to hit your pensions

Check this youtube clip I think you may find it enlightening

Banks 'Livid' at Occupy Wall Street support by Democrats

Think about it. Follow the money trail. On a national level the bankers got trillions and no prosecutions and I haven't seen a single banker even charged with the crimes.

Is so blatant they don't even try to cover it up anymore.

ITS TRUE...The corporations are sticking it to the middle class. I dont agree with alot that these protesters say, but some of the points are valid... Rahm's best bet is to issue a special permit to allow these guys to spend a week in the park (or whatever it takes for them to tire) Any kind of serious disturbance is a huge loser politically for Rahm.

And of course will result in a huge black eye for the police that have to handle the mess if it gets out of hand.

Best bet for arrests is 0 dark thirty, when the protesters are tired and less likely to get out of hand and a lot less press around.

Not a cop.

The City is screwed. These are peaceful protests, the kind the current Exempts can handle, just like closing North Ave beach for 'the heat'. Isn't there any real CRIME elsewhere in the city?
Another media sideside to keep CPD manpower issue under the radar. How many more will be retired, sick or injured before G 8 ? And how much will this event cost for overtime and cleanup? No wonder they're not hiring & taxes bills will go up next year.
I guess as long as nobody questions Rahm's "Solyndra" involvement, rising water bills & city sticker fees, closing police stations and libraries, the 'Occupy' story will grab headlines as the BIG story.

Funny, but all of the po-po were down at Grant Park, yet there were about 300 urban youths brawling at Chicago and Michigan. I called 911 because it spilled into the street, and I was about to hit them. I wish I could have hit them, but I don't want to end up sued by these low-lifes. Sorry SCC this is OT, but I thought it was important enough to place on a more recent post.
I was reading the post regarding the rally in Springfield this Wednesday. I cannot believe the people saying, "it's a waste of time, what's the point", or inquiring what time the buses are coming back because "I work 3rd watch". BURN 3 HOURS!!!

I know the politicians and the media hate us and want the public to hate us, using our pension as the driving force, but people wake up! This is our future we're talking about!!!
I'm a Sgt with 26 yrs on and I'm on days. I'm burning 8.5 because this is very real, and those who don't think it is, please get your head out of the sand!

I've never played the "hair-gel vs. wheel gun" police on your site, but I honestly believe if this pension crisis came up 20 yrs ago, we'd fill 20 buses! This is a REAL crisis!

PLEASE WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!

That would be one of the Bazareks, either Gary or Stanley. Stanley, I think. He was the same Lieutenant that led the charge agains the protesters that tried to occupy the Civic Center Plaza in April of 1968. They had to leave because it was being caulked (wink-wink). It comes down to the statements made by the officers driving up to the scene that captured the flashes on their in car camera. Did they hear multiple loud reports as they drove up to the scene? If the answer is no, then the flashes are indeed from the shooting officers flashlight.

With regards to the first post, they allowed someone on the mike last night and he brought this incident involving the Englewood shooting to gain support for their anti-police brutality agenda. Then there was the woman carrying her little hand made sign accusing the CPD of shooting her students. These people claim to represent the 99 percent, well if Chicago has approximately 3 million residents and there were 2 thousand of them {a generous estimation} last night....looks to me like they are the 1 percent. I did find it amusing when they started infighting as to what they were going to do, occupy the park or march to the Thompson Center. Someone should slip them Emmanuel's and Daley's home address and tell them to protest where it will really attract attention.

Tobias and the rest of them are a bunch of useless goofballs. Even the protesters were laughing and commenting about how the Brass looked like "Chickens with their heads cut off!" What was really confusing was the fact that the Brass gave back the banners, protest signs, and tents back to protesters in crowd, who did not get arrested, to be used again?! Im confused.

You allow "weed fest" in the park which encompasses overnight camping and you even provide porta pottys for the event.

You DONT allow protesters, flexing first amendment rights to camp out.

I dont get it.

If I owned a private parking lot Id let them camp there FOR FREE over night. Not a lot you can do to them on private property with the land owners consent.

Non-violent and pretty courteous protestors for the most part. Still a clusterfuck on the CPD's side. Should we arrest them? Will we hurt their feelings? Maybe if we give them more time they will get bored and go home. Never mind that Occupy Chicago gave the CPD a heads up and warning that they planned to camp out in the park again, knowingly breaking a city ordinance.

Why were the arrestees taken to central d? (Besides the obvious reason of it being closest) When events like this took place in the old days there would be an order issued stating arrests will be processed at area 2 or area 5. Also, why weren't they violiating the bonds of those who were rearrested while still on bond?

Off Topic, but very important;

More than 600 MB of data from the International Association of Chief of Police, or IACP, (website still down) was released, according to a press release from Anonymous. It included internal documents, membership rosters, home addresses, passwords, social security numbers and more.

Along with the IACP data, Anonymous revealed 1000 names and passwords from the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association; 1000 names, ranks, social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers from the Alabama law enforcement systems; and the full contact database Matrix Group, a web development agency serving government websites.

Can't be to far behind for us. Be aware.

Stop bashing the gold stars about this OWS mess.
You know there are cameras and audio mikes
EVERYWHERE. I'm not mad at them for exercising
caution, and giving these young people an
opportunity to clear out prior to shutting down
the protests and locking up many dozens of
people. I've been sued before, it's not pleasant,
and if I never make another trip down to the
Corp. Counsel's office on LaSalle, that's fine by
me. It's a huge drain on manpower and resources
to deal with this sort of thing, and some copper
always gets hurt in these mass arrests, and we
certainly don't need that. I don't blame the Chiefs
and other gold stars on the scene for exercising
caution and trying to persuade those protesters
to leave before snapping the flex cuffs on large
groups of them. The sooner you hard chargers

Well SCC...

The city leaders were looking for and the CPD was preparing for a WAR zone and what they got both weekends was a peaceful protest by peaceful US citizens of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that were attempting to exercising their constitutional rights to free speech and freedom of assembly.

Put it in perspective.

Was there a potential for other things to occur YES. There ALWAYS is. Did they NO.

Not all that different then a gun rights advocate wanting their constitutional right to bear arms but then vilified for wanting to exercise that right with the other sides prediction of doom and gloom used to run a political agenda.

That's what went down last night.

The vilification of US citizens because they want what all of us want -- the laws enforced against the corporate banking frauds and the corrupt politicians that help to promote them, the failed regulatory agencies that the taxpayer pay to protect them and which have exploited them instead.

Think about it.

They want the laws enforced and we are vilifying them for that?

Those of you who condemn these people for exercising their rights need to step back and consider where you live. Again, these folks are attacking the banking oligarchs and the government they own. People like Richie Daley, William Daley, Barack Obama, Ken Griffith, Rahm Emanuel, etc.

If Chicago were Boston and these protesters were the Tea Party, some of you would be cheerleading mass arrests for illegal dumping in the harbor. Take a step back.

There is probably very little else these protesters represent that I agree with, but on this protest of our government (both parties) captured by Wall Street oligarchs, I am fully 100% in agreement.

And yes, our forefathers would have considered it an honor to get arrested for the cause. One life to live for my country and all that.

Just remember guys, the jerk pulling your strings here is Rahm Emanuel. That is who is pulling troops out of middle class neighborhoods to enforce municipal laws on weekend nights downtown at a political protest. Attack these protesters and you are playing right into Rahm's hands. It really is as simple as that.

Michael at 12:30,

So let me get this straight...

1. These protesters are "do nothing lazy ass rich kids, hillbillies, and geezer hippies" for being so ungrateful to the wonderful 1% and for wanting our politicians to stop enabling corporate greed and care more about the public benefit.

2. But everyone in the public needs to rally to support you and your pensions from thieving politicians who will go back on their benefit promises to the police so they can instead use that tax money to hand out special breaks to their corporate campaign donors.

Sounds to me like you have a lot more in common with these protesters you hate than you realize.

I mean where do you think the public support is going to come from when the politicians go after your pensions?

Do you think the anti-government spending folks are going to be on your side or they'll be cheering the cuts after buying into the B.S. broad-brush representations of all police getting lavish pension benefits they didn't deserve that were way better than the private sector so it's not a big deal if the public goes back on its promise to police?

Do you think the banksters like those at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange currently shaking down Quinn and Rahm for a huge tax break under threat that they will leave the state are going to share their profits to help prop up your pensions in thanks for you making those smelly sign-holders leave the CBOT sidewalk by setting up this confrontation at Grant Park and also City Hall to take the focus off the banks and onto CPD's actions?

I have no connection to the CPD whatsoever. But as a Chicago resident and taxpayer who has received your service and protection, promises have been made in my name to you and I will do what I can to see that the politicians honor those promises.

I just wish you had the same respect for your fellow citizens even if they don't smell/look/ think/vote like you do.

Hey Guess what? In the UK Riots....

============

Rioters came from 44 countries: 1 in 7 jailed after summer of violence was a foreign national

Foreign looters from 44 countries have been locked up over the riots which scarred the country in August.

Robbers, vandals and thugs from as far afield as Afghanistan, Cuba, Ethiopia and Samoa joined in as shops were plundered and businesses set ablaze, causing millions of pounds worth of damage.

The sheer number from different corners of the globe who took part in the mayhem is one of the strongest indicators yet that the riots had nothing to do with political protest or civil unrest, but was born of greed and opportunist criminality.

[...]

Prison statistics revealed that 14 per cent – about one in seven – of those jailed for burglary, robbery, theft, criminal damage and disorder during the riots were born abroad. But the true number could be even higher as at least four per cent of those remanded in custody refused to tell police their nationality.

Jamaicans represented the largest group of foreign inmates, followed by Somali and Polish offenders. The list also included those from Colombia, Iraq, Congo, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

Cook County defies government on immigration

About a month ago, county commissioners ordered the sheriff to ignore all requests from immigration officials who ask for illegal immigrants to be detained after they've posted bond or served their time. The detentions are supposed to give federal agents a chance to pick them up and begin deportation proceedings.

Most of those set free were being held on felonies.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gTgsnjqZLpJSbScfetnignY_Uw2A?docId=df7bc28e031a4ccc9f68f3a54afb03b0

======

Nothing like giving sanctuary to the illegal immigrant agent provocateurs glorifying them ALL as hard working people only trying to make themselves a better life when we don't even know who they are or where they came from..AND then we'll demonize and vilify the US citizens that are crying out and demanding that we enforce our laws. We will penalize and fine these citizens.

I'll bet that there are certain people just sitting on the edge of their chairs in anticipation of these criminal opportunist to show up here so they can place the blame on the peaceful Occupy Wall Street movement. Lump them in all together.

Why else would you deny and refuse a federal request and turn felons loose on the street other than to create a crisis that you can use?

There's something going on here.

You mean the city leaders right? I agree it's a pretty poor choice on their part. Instead of being on an Napoleon ego power trip I think that the city could find a way to accommodate the protestors.

It's the cities choice to do what they do. Are there any complaints from citizens to have these people removed, locked up, and fined for being in the park?

Nineteen-paul.

The city and the county makes these choices everyday even to go as far as refusing to hold Illegal Immigrant felons for deportation.

Felons people, felons. They turn loose felons and these are ordinary citizens that are chosen as targets. Think about that message.

"Paulina Jasczuk, a 24-year-old dental receptionist, watched as her boyfriend, Philip Devon, was led away in the night hours. She threw him a white sweater against the chill of a fall night in Chicago.

"I'm proud of everyone who got arrested tonight," she told AP, adding she hoped they would inspire more demonstrators to join in the movement in the weeks ahead.

Demonstrators were taken away one by one and handcuffed with white plastic ties and. Some on the scene shouted: "This is what democracy looks like!"

Drums banged and some people clanged on metal.

Jonathan Sumner, 25, of Chicago, watched the arrests from outside the park and began shouting at officers: "Why are you doing this?"

"It's a sad day for the CPD" he said, referring to the Chicago Police Department.

Some said earlier that arrests only signal the importance of the Occupy movement."

Honey, this is what democracy looks like? The USA is a constitutional REPUBLIC. Democracy is mob rule, the founding fathers disliked democracy. Guess your fancy schools and your in the know protesting failed to inform you on the difference between the varied forms of government men create for their societies.

Checks and balances honey. That is what a republic is founded on.

How is getting arrested a act to be proud of? That is not too far off from the thug mentality that certain gang bangers have on the matter of their having been to jail lends them 'street cred'.

The Tea Party was able to get candidates into political office nation wide with out having any one arrested at their protests. Who are the OWS political candidates? What is the unified goal of these protests?

Occupy Naperville? Are you fucking kidding me? I guess the protester's income is only in the low 150's. What a joke.

10/23/2011 08:15:00 AM

=========================

Nice stereotyping but sure.

The Naperville kids are moving back home after completing college with a six figure debt that can not be discharged in bankruptcy.

They bought into what feels like a lie -- get a good education, work hard and you'll get a good job and there are no good jobs. Or very few or limited time offers that are certainly not careers.

Google the college grad placement rate. The last time I looked it was pitiful.

These six-figure student debt contracts that are non discharged has many of the grads feeling like slaves, indentured servants. Even the so-called high tech computer jobs are not paying what they use to due to the so-called "free trade" and resulting wage arbitration.

How long do you suppose it's going to take for a college kid today to pay down that $140K tuition bill on an Obama shovel-ready WalMart-like wage?

Heck even with a half way decent job you're looking at the equiv. of a mortgage payment for 30 years!

That's assuming that you can find a job to stay at and have steady work for 30 years which is more like a fantasy.

Doesn't leave much room for saving for a rainy day or for your own retirement so that you are not dependent on handouts now does it?

So yeah. they're gonna occupy and there are going to be a lot more occupiers soon as the austerity kicks in and the politicians try to squeeze the money from the people to pay for the banks f-up's

Look at Greece. They're a bit farther into the timeline than us.

Late payments complicate Illinois prison operations

BY STEPHEN RICKERL - The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan

CARBONDALE -- The Illinois Department of Corrections insists its failure to pay its bills on time isn't creating any safety concerns inside state prisons. But documents show one department executive warned of "a big problem looming" if a food supplier halted deliveries.

"I am fearful at some locations we won't be able to meet the food needs of the population. To an inmate, food is the most important part of the day so this obviously would create huge security concerns," Bryan Gleckler, the department's chief financial officer, wrote in a June letter that was obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

The state soon coughed up part of the $2.5 million it owed the supplier, MJ Kellner, and Gleckler now plays down the safety concerns. He said the department tries to keep enough food on hand to keep providing meals even if deliveries are cut off.

"As long as I've been here, we haven't run out of food," Gleckler said in an interview. "... For the most part right now, we're having no issues that I'm aware of with food suppliers."

Nevertheless, the prisons system has not escaped problems stemming from the state's chronically late payment of its bills, and in some cases has had to rely on longstanding relationships with vendors to weather the delays.

If any of you have taken the time to read about the Haymarket Massacre in the Academy, what is going on now and in the near future sort of reminds me of these disgruntled workers/strikers. And I remember reading a sentence that touched on how in 1886 the Chicago Police understood the reason/cause for the workers peaceful protest (peaceful at first). And the officers were torn between these men who had a family to feed just like them and their oath that they took.

ITS TRUE...The corporations are sticking it to the middle class. I dont agree with alot that these protesters say, but some of the points are valid... The difference between them and us (police) is that they are doing something about it... Lets get on that FOP Bus to Springfield on Wed. 10/26 and stand up for our pension rights....

============================

You have to realize that this protest movement is giving an open mic to anyone that wants to speak their mind. That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone in the group itself is for or against what anyone is saying. You get the right to voice your opinion and yes as a result of that there are some ideas that come of wacky and not well though out. I'm assuming that they will eventually vote as a group on matters but we really haven't seen any official doc's on that yet only proposals and working doc.s that are in flux.

It's not like the old days -- republican and democrat hierarchy where there is a leader chosen to speak for everyone. This movement has no real leader and it is driving the establish politicians nuts as they are not sure how to attack it. Right off the bat you can't go on a witch hunt of a persons past to dig up some dirt to make personal attacks with. There's no leader.

They're smarter then you may think.

They are criticized for not having a clear agenda but they do.

I think it's the beginning of a new political party because the current two parties are seen as being corrupt and that's why so many people don't vote. Voting only seems to decide which gang members are going to collect the proceeds doing favors for the corporations for the next four to six years. Look at Obama out collecting one billion dollars from corporations who's interest is her going to work for. Same goes for Cain or the others.

So we should let these goofs occupy Grant Park? Are you guys nuts? If we do that, then we might as well let the gangbangers and bums and drunks occupy our local parks too. Are you in favor of that?

Why the anger at such a lame protest?

Just ignore and it will go away.

The over reaction will create ill will against the police.

So who is easier to arrest? A 23 year old unemployed white college grad who is sleeping in a park, or an unemployed 23 year old black 8th grade grad (and honor student) who is beating and stealing from Michigan Ave. visitors.

This just make the police look bad for going after easy targets and ignoring the real crime that goes on.

Funny, but all of the po-po were down at Grant Park, yet there were about 300 urban youths brawling at Chicago and Michigan. I called 911 because it spilled into the street, and I was about to hit them. I wish I could have hit them, but I don't want to end up sued by these low-lifes. It's always great when you are telling a black dispatch that there are a bunch of animals brawling.

I am extremely impressed how professionally the Chicago Police dealt with our fellow citizens at Grant Park last night. I am proud that all of you represented police officers so well.
Clearly, your training worked.
I know we are seldom thanked for doing our job. That is just the way the our world is. Keep up the good work, and stay safe.

Hey Mike,

It's good to see another PO acknowledge the professionalism of the CPD while peacefully demonstrating and exercising our 1st Constitutional Amendment Rights. I keep more low key than you while out there but taking my pension and rights away is too much. I can't believe there are not more brothers and sisters in blue joining in. Are you still in 016?

10/23/2011 09:43:00 AM

Sergeant,

Sorry to say but you need to WAKE UP! The kids today don't care, they will never get old and retire.

They only care about Brittany Spears underwear displays and what Paris Hilton is doing. We are dealing with a generation that CanNOT think for themselves.

Truly sad and I feel your pain brother.

RON PAUL 2012!
