Eliminating Review

Another missive from the last days of Downtown Ernie Brown last week declares that all case reports will be done on the Automated Incident Reporting Application. Paper reports will only be done when "authorized by the Watch Commander" and then only in extreme circumstances. Sergeants are ordered not to approve paper reports.

We don't know about where everyone works, but at any given time, we have 20% or more of our cars down, many without working PDT's or computer mounts. That means we have to run into the station to do reports, which of course, kind of defeats the purpose of maintaining a presence on the streets while we bounce from job to job to job.

How about we invest in decent equipment first of all, make sure we have enough replacements in case something breaks, then maintain the equipment regularly, then eliminate the paper. We want to go paperless as much as the next guy, but this backasswards method is just silly.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

SCC, simply look upon this latest Directive from DTEB as the waning days of a real jackass, who is (thankfully)
about to let the door 'smack him right in his ass' on the way out.

"Blah blah blah I'm just trying to look like what I do and say matters in my final weeks here." We've got in covered, "Boss."

The Department is too stupid and too cheap to purchase enough quality PDTs so that we will have more than enough available for every working beat car.

The bigger problem is the corruption-laden City purchasing system. I have heard from more than one reliable source, that the City could have purchased these Panasonic "hardbook" PDTs directly
from Panasonic for about $2,500 a piece. Instead, the City requires an "authorized vendor" [clout payoff] which made the City pay about $5,000 for each PDT.

If the citizens of Chicago KNEW how much they are being screwed, [being charged twice as much as necessary for EVERYTHING, just so that the clouted few can get their "cut"] by our corrupt Mayor and our gaggle of corrupt aldermen, every day, with their corrupt B.S., there would be rioting in the streets until they were ALL tarred and feathered and banished from this town!

We are already taxed to death in this 100% corrupt City of Chicago, the most corrupt city in the nation. Cook County is ALSO the most corrupt county in the nation. Emanuel and Prenkwinckle should be so scared of the wrath of the righteous indignation of an awakened populace that they immediately leave their posts and head for the hills. Instead, the citizens of Chicago, the DUMBEST voters in the enire nation, vote these villains in! You voted for them, now enjoy being over-taxed while they pillage and rape (financially) what is left to take from the working citizens of Chicago!

Maybe we can blame the WHOLE thing on the CALL TAKERS!

Furthermore can't they make all non-emergency jobs get forwarded to 311/CALL BACK? I know they may be waiting a long time but then they need to devise a new IMPROVED system. Line ON LINE reporting on a CPD website to fill out your own report that asks YOU the victim what where when How and who etc. You just fill in the blanks!

A lot of WASTED TIME by patrol when units are on idiot paper jobs all bullshit that can be done over the phone should be. Its the year 2011!

Cars stay down and sometimes they are needed to back others up but they play possum so its still wasted time etc.

I m not pointing fingers at any District or any one unit or car because I am guilty of it too in my time. Really its just a no brainer to keep cars clear and available for in progress/assists calls only.

It may upset the "Reverends neighbors" now for them to be put on HOLD and not have the POLEESE running crazy responding to all the BULLSHIT but too bad they gonna vote how they vote anyways and the yuppies will go with the flow!

The rest of us "neighbors" the city workers etc. Well we will bitch no matter what happens but realistically we always can figure it out!

Hey Ernie
Look at this problem first. The automated system is down or slow more often than not. The PDT situation is lacking to say the least. The computers in the stations are not much better.
But of course how would you know this?

One of the DUMBEST things I ever saw when I worked in A5 was that we had to make copies of CHRIS reports so the clerks could file them. Seriously! Pop the r.d.# into the computer if you need it, and hit the "print:" key. And oh yeah, when Andrews was there he decided we didn't need file cabinets--said everything should be in a felony file or in CHRIS, so he had all the file cabinets removed. What a fucking RETARD that guy was...and now he's moved up even further in the food chain, because his mama owned a restaurant and had a lot of dirt on people. What a turd.

most of the time you cannot get aira in the cars. Which leads to officers having to go into the station and waste another 30-45 minutes doing a report they could have dine on the scene. I agree, either get better equipment or go back to paper reports. Because this experiment is a complete failure. But I guess ant good leader who had his finger on the pulse of this Dept. Could have figured that out.

In the old days we only had a newspaper when the car was down and we were stuck in the area garage. Now they have smart phones and IPADS. I would report every safety problem and down the car. The IPAD will keep me busy. The squeaky wheel gets oiled. Do not hide the safety problems.

Right you are, sir. They do this under the guise of the need for minority contractors for the most part.

The City had declared that we must have a certain percentage of our contractors be minority owned. The connected thieves then throw a minority (or Women's) name at the top of a flow chart, and scam away.

There is NO service or ANY piece of equipment that the taxpayers pay for that hasn't been touched by this ridiculous 'set aside'. Incredibly, though this costs the taxpayers billions, it goes on.

This is a fat, slow pitch with very little arc, and yet, the Media doesn't swat this one out of the park. Where are you Mr. Investigative Reporter?

And not every call taker follows procedure. I've talked plenty of callers out of wanting the police to give a report.

Slow down with all this PDT stuff. I like it when I get a vehicle that has a non working PDT. It serves as a wonderful lunch tray, a stable platform to hold my portable dvd player or I-pod and speakers. Plus if it doesn't work it still tells the time so at least we have a $5000.00 clock in our cars, how many departments can say that. Why if I had a working PDT I might be able to do some work such as run names and plates and do reports. I can run names and plates over the air but on a busy night the dispatchers would want to hang me by my pubes. So enough with all this new equipment talk, just stop it. I just bought all the seasons of SEX IN THE CITY and I'm just itching to watch them.

Our Case, Arrest, and Inventory reporting system (I-Clear) is outdated, confusing and SLOW.
Im not a computer geek, but is our system on a separate server system or shared with entire city?
Why do we have to deal with all the pages to do an Arrest Report or Inventory? Why isn't data automatically "saved"?
Why is the desktop computer not synced with the mobile laptops?
Eliminate review and where will all the Gals go???

Got bitched at by my Sgt for going to the station to complete a report. Aira wouldn't allow us to submit the report from the car. Told us we were supposed to do a paper report. A few days later we were reminded by the WC that paper reports have to be approved by WC.

The PDT's suck. Rarely can we put a contact card in. And when we can when we get an error message trying to put in the date and time of occurrence. Also AIRA times out when we try to do reports. So we get the RD over the air, leave the job, go to the station, and do the report. That's alot of down time when it's busy.
