Double the Cameras

  • The Chicago Police Department has boosted patrols on the CTA by deploying officers alongside commuters, and plans are under way to double the number of cameras at train stations, CTA officials said Monday.

Officers formerly assigned to schools have already begun riding trains in highly visible “Wolfpack” teams of four to six members to deter crime, Lt. John Wittenberg said.

The increase in security also includes plainclothes officers who will concentrate on preventing the theft of electronic devices, CTA President Forrest Claypool said as he unveiled the summer initiative.

Initially, school officers not assigned to summer school sessions will be augmenting the police presence. The Department and the CTA declined to say what would happen when school was back in session, but we have a small idea - the force will be scaled back in the hopes that the trouble makers will be in school.

This little tidbit was on the WBBM Newsradio 780 report:
  • CTA President Forrest Claypool says more cameras will catch more thugs in the act of committing crimes.
But the cameras will only bear silent witness to the attacks seeing as how they can't actually arrest anyone. Which should be comforting to the victims as they recover from their injuries.

Did anyone see the article in Friday's Trib (or was it the ScumTimes)? It was with the woman whose iPhone was stolen and the poor woman got knocked down the stairs and died? I really feel for the initial theft victim. She has survivor's guilt, which is going to take a very long time to get over.

However, just looking at the 2 accompanying photos to the article, it appears as if no one received the message to..PUT YOUR FUCKING PHONES AWAY! In both pictures, there's at least one, if not more persons on the phoneand/or texting!

Bystander's CTA death haunts iPhone robbery victim

CHICAGO The woman had just been robbed - her iPhone plucked from her hand as she sat on a Chicago Transit Authority train - and as she followed the thief's trail down the stairs to report the crime, she saw the horrifying, crumpled shape.

A woman lay in a heap on the ground, her head close to the steps. The thief had knocked her down.

Distraught, the robbery victim knelt down and cradled the head of 68-year-old Sally Katona-King. There was blood.

Hubberman, Masters and Goldstein were not employed as a Chicago Police Officer long enough to carry after they retired. They are civilians now, and not allowed to carry under any provisions granted RETIRED officers. They are no longer allowed to play out their little boy fantasies of being a police officer.

Stop with the BS war stories too, by the way. None of you did any real police work in the short time you were on the job. You were just taking up the spot of someone who might have actually wanted to make a career helping people.

Six deep??? We are short on manpower all over and they are going to have six coppers standing around acting as cta security? We already have a unit that works the cta, and already have special employment for cta (that doesnt pay time and a half because cta is a seperate entity remember). If more people are needed than maybe have more openings for the unit (not really helpfull due to low manpower all over) or start increasing the number of special employment spots. Shouldnt this count as a negative to the # of pos rahm promised back on the streets? They are being given security guard details.
Wouldnt it make more sense to spread them out to cover more area (you know, the ones that will be uncovered due to six man teams)? If anyone is going to rob of beat someone in front of two coppers, than having four more there wouldnt stop them either. No doubt the scrambling knee jerk "I have to do something" reaction of some worthless gold star hack trying to justify their existence.

Weis Got $76K for Unused Vacation Time After Resignation

Updated: Tuesday, 21 Jun 2011, 9:10 AM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 21 Jun 2011, 9:10 AM CDT

FOX Chicago News

Chicago - Former Police Superintendent Jody Weis got a hefty check when he resigned on March 1. Weis was given a check for $76,000 for unused vacation time, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The lump-sum payment represented 64 vacation days that he never took.

Moreover, Weis wasn't the only city employee to get a big check for unused vacation; about 1,000 city workers were paid nearly $7.5 million during the transition from Mayor Richard M. Daley to Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

SCC, this is off topic, but hugely important. I realize the 'pension stuff' isn't as exciting as action stories, but the full magnitude of what we're dealing with just came to light and we're absolutely fucked.

We're talking Ireland, Iceland, Greece fucked.

A recent debt disclosure law made the figures available for the first time, and the result is grave. The pension is underfunded to the tune of $25,000,000,000.

That's twenty five billion in unfunded pension liabilities (with a total aggregate debt of over one hundred billion dollars)

http://goo.gl/dhLzE

For perspective, that's about $63,000 per Chicago household. Think about that. Think about the neighborhoods you work in. Every single dilapidated house you see in Englewood, Grand Crossing, Austin... Each one owes $63,000.

Anyone think the tax base in Chicago circa 2011 can bail us out of this one? People lie sometimes, politicians lie always, numbers can be manipulated but facts never lie.

These are facts.

The following appeared in the on-line Tribune edition about how eddie the weasel burke gets to keep his 6 man security police detail:

"McCarthy, who was speaking at an unrelated event Tuesday, said in light of his efforts to get more cops on the street, “I absolutely understand the question” about Burke’s security detail".

The weasel has had round the clock police detailed to protect him since 1986. Do the math, how much more are taxpayers willing to pay for this arrogant leache to live like a king, I don't see the difference between those that bleed the system through public aide and this fat cat. Keep supporting this broken system, our pensions will eventually be tapped...since they have already leased and monetarily raped everything else.

OT but? ($76,000 for vacation?)

Since when does Jody get paid vacation days?

He was not Sworn personnel.

He was paid for 3 years on a contract of $310,000 per year.

He received a check whether he showed up or not.

Where did these vacation days come in?

Is the police finance division that stupid? (maybe)

Did his contract have OTHER language that the public was NOT told about?

It's absurd that he received an enormous salary, showed no results, and claims vacation pay!

Pis-ed off taxpayer!

Headline on breakingnews.com

"McCarthy says court order means Ald. Burke keeps police detail"

====

Hey, he has a POD cam across the street. What does he need six 24/7 coppers guarding him for?

That POD cam is more than the majority of what the taxpayers will get when they are threatened by someone right?

Don't worry, the POD is out there and should something happen it will all be on tape so that we can bring the person to justice.

Why is that not good enough for you MR. Burke but it's good enough for the children being shot at the parks!?!

Yeah..the ball-less mayor and police chief are rubbing it in the taxpayers face that Burke gets to keep his security detail of SIX COPPERS!

Meanwhile we have sixty year old ladies being shoved down the stairs murdered at the CTA trains by Ipod thieves and seven and three year old little girls getting shot in the play lot at the city park.

Nice to see that Burke is making a shared sacrifice sitting in his million dollar castle with pod cams and taxpayer funded guards isn't it?

There was even a seven year old raped in Burke's own ward.

Six more cops on the street may have prevented all that. But no!

Instead we have our city leaders hiding behind an alleged court order to provide 24/7 security for Burke because someone called and made a death threat.

Oh we can't do anything the court order and all -- it's out of our hands.

I call bullshit!

What's wrong with an order of protection just like any other citizen of Chicago would be told to file for?

There has to be hundreds of taxpayers that are threatened everyday and they are not provided with 24/7 security.

They're told no-one has acted on the threat and so there's nothing we can do.

Funny how when it comes to things like pensions and union contracts and other things in writing how a judges order doesn't stop them from not being honored.

This place is not only financially bankrupt, it's morally bankrupt as well.

Some people in the comment section posted that the solution is to vote the man out. However you can see how well that works as the ol' mayor is still sucking off the taxpayers even though the man has three jobs!

Illinois is now the only dumbazz state in the union without a concealed carry option.

This gun control stuff is working so well in Illinois that criminals and illegal immigrants armed by the nations own ATF operation Fast and Furious are flocking to the state and the Sanctuary City in droves.

People need to seriously ask why all the criminals are not leaving Illinois for other states where it's easier to carry guns if the carrying of guns turns places into the wild west?

Your city tax dollars at work.

Ald Burke passing out flyers with his security forces that he's taken off the street to use for his own personal protection -- that may have prevented this and other tragedies

Isn't that nice?

---clip--

A 7-year-old girl was attacked over the weekend in the city's Archer Heights neighborhood.

Tuesday morning, police officers and the community's aldermen were out to warn residents and also remind them to be on the lookout for a suspect. The suspect is still on the loose.

Police say that Saturday night at 11:40 p.m., the 7-year-old girl was sexually assaulted near the 4900-block of South Kildare. There is no word as to why the 7-year-old was out that late at night alone.

Fourteenth Ward Alderman Ed Burke came to a city sticker outreach program at the Polish Highlanders banquet hall in the 4800-block of South Archer, near the crime scene. Burke and city clerk Susana Mendoza, along with CAPS volunteers, warned the public of the rapist, handing out flyers to concerned community members.

Morons
Chicago's crime is not reported to the FBI because they can't conform to the FBI's Uniform Crime Incident Reporting guidelines, all because Shanks and his Daddy didn't want the nation to know what the real crime rate in Chicago was. The Chicago Police Department tallies data differently than police in other cities, the FBI often does not accept its crime statistics. Chicago police officers record all criminal sexual assaults, as opposed to only rape. They count aggravated battery together with the standard category of aggravated assault. As a result, Chicago is often omitted from studies such as Morgan Quitno's annual "Safest/Most Dangerous City" survey, which relies on FBI-collected data. I thought JFLED would have straightened this out.
Unf*cking believable, on no wait were in Shitcago, county of Crook, State of This is such a safe state we don't need guns so come on down all you criminals cause we can't protect ourselves. Sheep waiting to be led to the slaughter at the hands of the protected criminals emboldened every day by our elected officials.

6/21/2011 12:54:00 PM

Re:OT: Jfled gets almost 77,000

City Hall / Sun Times Co-Op is at it again.
The Sun Times once again is in collusion with city hall to gin up anti-public worker sentiment. It wasn’t long ago that this newspaper released articles sensationalizing the excesses of the politically well connected to coincide with Daley’s demand for public employee furloughs. The Sun Times succeeded in painting all employees with the same brush as it attempts to do here. Shame on the Sun Times for this dirty deed especially at a time when the nation’s working class is suffering and see those with a job as fortunate. The use of this tactic reveals more of what I have come to believe, in that Emanuel is nothing more than a rear guard, covering the tracks that lead to Daley and his years of financial chicanery.
One thing is for sure though, look for Mayor Emanuel in the next few days to offer “shared pain” ideas to over-worked public employees while he continues to re-purpose tax dollars from their designed use and depositing them in his Tax Increment Financing district slush fund. One other thing to remember, as cut backs are made the lack of services will become evident look for more graffiti ,rats, garbage, burnt out buildings, muggings, open hydrants, water outages, street light outages, broken stop lights, pot holes and less street signs, painted cross walks and painted lane markings to name a few.

OK, read carefully, Ed Burke has a court order mandating he must have a police detail for his personal safety. Whenever he needs one, he goes down to the judge, just pick one, and gets a new court order. He has been doing this for a long time.

Ed Burke is on the Cook County Democratic Party Central Committee. (CCDP Central Committee) He runs it, in fact.

The CCDP Central Committee has the really tough job of slating judges for election. Without the blessing of the CCDP Central Committee a person's chances of getting a spot on the judges ballot are about as good as a Republican getting elected mayor. None.

So, each election time the new crop of trained seals, er, um, candidates for a spot on the ballot for judge trot on down for an "interview" in front of Ed Burke and John Daley. And a phone call also helps, mandatory in fact, if you expect a shot at a ballot spot.

So with the blessing of Ed Burke, and only with that blessing, a person has a very good shot at being elected judge. That is how fair and square elections for judges work around here. If Ed says you are in, you are in. If Ed says out, you are out. Period. O U T

So with most all of the judges in Cook County owing their employment to Ed Burke, how hard is it to get a "judge's order" requiring a police bodyguard detail? Not hard at all, not at all.

About any judge in Cook County will give Ed Burke a judge's order granting Ed anything he wants.

Take that to the bank.

That's one of the things exempts have, because they are so valuable, they might not get all the v-days they are entitled to.
You however WILL take your days and not get paid for them.

It's kind of in the 'non' contract the exempts have. I think it's more of a City Department of Personnel thing, than a CPD thing.

"Even Oliver North doesn't have bodyguards!"

That's because he isn't a pussy, please don't compare Oliver North to Burke. Lt Col. Oliver North was tried and with the help of the ACLU (yep that's right) had his convictions overturned on the basis of a grant of immunity. Time will only tell with Burke.

Lt Col North served his country, and whatever your feelings are about Iran Contra, he had a military career that went beyond his running the Reagan era clandestine operation for which he took the fall. Burke would never take the fall for anyone. Burke received numerous draft deferments some of which were under suspicious circumstances.

There is one thing that is similiar. During North's unsuccessful campaign for a senate seat, he raised 20 Million dollars for his campaign. Burke has a considerable amount in his warchest, 8 million. The amounts are similar, who gave the money is not. North's campaign was largely funded from across the country by 100's of thousands of small contributions. Ed Burke, well, you can look up where his money came from if you want, but an example would be 17 grand from a guy named Calvin Boender, who Eddie later supported development projects to the tune of millions. You know Boender, convicted along with Ike Carothers.

North commpared to Burke, you were joking when you wrote that right ?

Or grow a spine and not only jam the shitbird PO's but the Boss that is protecting them.

Hostile Workplace Environment Lawsuit against teh 2 PO's and the Boss = Millions in Profit and you can even get the shitbird lawyer that loves to sue the city to be your attorney.

That's it Mike. I voted for you too and I haven't seen a lot of good you are doing. I do see you spending my money on unnecessary and wasteful things and I am not happy with this. Mike send the Lincoln back or resign. Seriously. You will be challenged on what you are doing very shortly by the members of this union. Does anyone else feel this way?

Apparently not only do we have to watch out for the savages on the streets but now we have to watch out for savages in uniform(cops) too. At the 10-1 shooting on 76th/ingleside, a shitbird punched a 006th district tact guy and when the tact guy tazed and tried to place shitbird in custody a cop in full uniform(black shitbird copper) jumped and punched the 006th district tact guy attempting to stop him from making the arrest. UNFUCKING BELEIVEABLE !!!!!!! One of many fucking coppers put on this job due the race card. This is not bullshit, I got this from someone who saw this happen but because all the shit going on they were unable to get this shitbird coppers name because he ran off.

This is true I saw it.. Cd officer is arresting shit head... See him trying to place him in custody at which time a female f/1 pushes him off saying leave him alone... Then a six district m/1 officer sticks in saying the same... Thank god someone broke it off... Cd Officer was furious..

6/21/2011 05:16:00 AM

Unfortunately, this did happen. I was pushed in the face by the m/1 officer from 006 while attempting to break up the police scuffle. My partner and I tried sensibly talking to him afterwards. Sadly, he apparently has a chip on his shoulder and said, "it wasn't me." Instead of just saying, "Sorry if I did that bro, I didn't mean too." Just, "it wasn't me" and a rude look at me and my partner.

Very embarrassing moment. The f/1 officer from 003 and m/1 officer from 006 should look into other employment. They're lucky no CR was generated and it was squashed by the bosses.

6/22/2011 03:56:00 AM

Why was it squashed Office? You can still put a CR# in. Don't be a pussy and do the right thing before one of these asses gets a REAL copper hurt or killed or causes another huge scandal.

OT Check out the Times story about those fucks J-Fled, Masters, Brust and O'Keefe cashing in big time on their unused furlos. What the hell!

6/21/2011 08:16:00 AM

If it is real vacation time then it's his.
Start bitching about this and you will not be able
to cash your VDays in at the end no matter how far away that is.

As for jfleds salary, blame shortshanks on that one.

----------
Hey ASSHAT--

We, the lowly po's lose V-days if we don't use them. You cannot carry them over or sell them back.
Good Grief!
