Good News for Gun Owners

  • Gun owners’ identities would remain shielded from public disclosure under legislation the Senate overwhelmingly approved Friday and that Gov. Quinn signaled he would support.

The 42-1 vote for a bill now headed to the governor’s desk represents a victory for gun-rights lobbyists who sought to keep the owners’ names private after Attorney General Lisa Madigan contended that lists of those with Firearm Owner Identification cards should be made public under the state’s open-records law.

  • The House passed the bill in April with a 98-12 vote. It now heads to Quinn, who could either sign or veto it, though he signaled his support for the bill during a Friday press conference in Chicago.

“We had the position with State Police that that was information that was confidential and should not be shared,” Quinn said. “I agreed with the State Police’s position, and we’ll see what the bill says.”

Rarely has a politician been so obviously on the wrong side of an issue and Madigan's anti-gun owner biases pushed her so far left that she even alienated the normally liberal Illinois legislature into acting centrist, even conservative for a moment.

I'm no fan of Lisa Madigan, but truth be told, I believe this whole situation occurred from a FOIA request for the gun owners info and, as the Illinois Attorney General, she was asked to give a legal opinion regarding the existing law. She did so, and exposed the poorly written law. The legislature moved to close the loophole. End of story.

This is so easy. I use my box at the local UPS store for everything I do not want my home address listed on as I have for years. If the shitheads get the list they won't find any of my guns at the local UPS Store.

Come retirement, real soon, it won't matter for I will establish residence somewhere else and they can cram their FOID card.

Where in the Constitution does it say you need a FOID to possess? Make the FOID for ammo only.......

Fuck Illinois and its stupid FOID, and its stupid politicians. In AZ, if you are a non shithead, can legally buy a gun and remain sober and away from a school zone...You can pack that gun open or concealed. No wonder everyone leaves this State as fast as they can. If not for close family and friends, I would have been gone 10 years ago...In most States, you can walk into Walmart and buy ammo with nothing but green cash provided you are of age to do so.

Do you want to know how your state rep voted on concealed carry? They hid the vote results through a procedural move so their vote wouldn't be recorded. There is a picture of the vote board taken right before it disappeared forever at

agreed. It's her job to read the law and issue an interpretation.

Well it's easier to beat the dead horse gun control, than it is to stop corruption, fraud, thievery taking place in our goverment. Keep picking on the legal gun owners of America.

Bullshit, she has opposed other issues, and been forced to court, she could have done the same here. Fuck her, and her scumbag father.

That's OK. Almost no one in downstate Illinois has an FOID anyway. They go to other states to get ammo and guns. I don't; I moved away and don't have to deal with it any more.

"THOSE POLITICIANS HAVE FIREARMS AND WOULD BE OUTED IF THE LIST WERE PROVIDED."

And some of those that would be "outed" would be some of the biggest anti-gun A-Holes in the state legislature.

Remember several years ago when it got out that there was a Cook County Sheriff Deputy Bailiff program that allowed the connected to get a "CCW Permit"? It was revealed that virtually of the n lib media had one. Despite campaigning against gun ownership they all used their connections to get a special privilege.

For the same reason the City of Chicago requires you to have a permit to won a gun...to FUCK with you!!!!!!

Where do they get off on requiring a permit for a Constitutionally guaranteed right???

This entire thing would be a non-issue if Illinois would drop the FOID completely.

It's now taking 56 days to process applications that under state law, are supposed to be processed in 30 days.

I know ISP has outsourced the processing, so how long will it be before the names & addresses are "accidentally" released ("lost" laptop, database cracked, etc.)?
