Enforcer Comeback Win

An awesome halftime speech by new Superintendent Garry McCarthy spurs the team on toward victory - it was almost like seeing "Knute Rockne: All American" in person:
  • When the Chicago Police Department’s football team was down by 20 points at halftime today to the Fire Department’s squad, Acting Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told the police team about a game in the 1990s where his New York City cops were up 21-0 at the half against that city’s firefighters.

Recalling that New York City’s firefighters came back and beat the NYPD by one point, he urged Chicago’s finest to engineer the same kind of rally. And they did just that.

“I told them that this is where you show what type of character you have. They responded. There’s no doubt the character and the heart that these guys have,” McCarthy said shorty after the police team -- dubbed the Enforcers -- prevailed in overtime over the Chicago Fire Department’s team -- aptly called the Blaze -- 29-26.

The game came down to an overtime field goal made by the police kicker Chris Lenti, followed by loud chants of “CPD! CPD!” from hundreds of their fans in the bleachers behind the officers' sidelines at St. Rita High School's football stadium on the Southwest Side.
OK, OK, we're teasing about the "Knute Rockne" movie thing. Lighten up. We're giving the superintendent too much credit, but it was a very good game nonetheless featuring a 20 point comeback and a winning OT field goal, all for Police and Fire charities. What's not to like about that?

Let me tell you the old boss wiesel talked to the team all of one time in years. McCarthy talked to the team three times and talked about being the police and playing football. Let me tell you he is the real deal. If you got ten years or more you will understand.

In one week, our new Superintendent has created more warm and fuzzy buzz than the last guy could muster in 3 years.

Nice start!

Just knowing the stuttering prick is gone, helps immensely as well.

And, Hey! GREAT WIN ! ! !

Boy, Commander KR from TRU was sucking up to the new Supe big time. Reserved parking, staging drop-off locations with his driver, reserved seats where only YOU would have an audience with him (how did that work out for you? Lol) You are pitiful! Didn't you hear GMAC was the real police and can see through suckup never-been-the-police trolls like you? Really? Is the gold star worth giving up your dignity? You're a man....act like one for gods sake.

So, I get all ready for the big game, I buy my peanuts from the illegal selling them from the cart at 26th and Komar. I got my flask filled with some nice spiced rum, I get in the good old family rocket, the Volvo station wagon rocks yo, and I head on down to good old St. Rita. (Go Rita, fight, fight, fight, win.) I am there extra early so I can get my seats, I have my binoculars that I got from Fadhi's South Side Emporium (My guy! He has everything — and cheap too!), my 1980"s era Am Radio headphones on (have to listen to WBBM News) and of course, my foam finger "Enforcers are #1" on.

Then what happens, to ruin my day, you ask? Well, let me tell you. The Commander from that TRU thing, well he decides to reserve the like six or seven seats, RIGT IN FRONT OF ME! I am like, hey guy, I kind of have "dibs" even if I did not take my lawn chair out of mom's basement and put in front of me. I went to Crane High School and work on the North side, I know how these things are SUPPOSED to work out, but this guy, well he does not care at all.

So, during the game I see some guy coming with the Commander guy, turns out it is the new Supe. What the fudge — you would have thought I ate one of those greasy Cuban Sandwiches because I got sicker than a Billy Goat in heat. Talk about ass kissing - WOW! So, this goes on for like, the whole quarter, and I am getting sicker and sicker by the second, I mean I got the WBBM turned up as loud as it would go and to no avail. Finally, a guy to the left of the new Supe leans in and says to the Commander guy "Hey, pal, listen up - G-Mac likes the New York Football Giants and working policemen, so give it a rest" . The Commander guy asked who this guy was and he fires back "Lt Schmear, and you'll know me soon enough".

It was great, the Commander then walked away with his tail dragging between his feet.

New Sup McCarthy- Hand Shake, and Hello to me, Same to my son. Sir, you exhibited more class in a single afternoon than J-FED probably did in his WHOLE life.

Was embarrased watching the exempts, posture and position themselves to kiss the ass in an attempt to preserve their jobs. How do they call themselves men?

You mean the same Commander KR who walks past officers in his unit without acknowledging us? The same KR who has offered to send the whole unit back to the districts as long as he gets a guarantee that he won't be sent back along with them? The same KR that refuses to have a promotion party for those that were promoted 7 months ago because they weren't his guys? The same KR that created a 22nd district mission to specifically address m/1's that don't belong in his neighborhood? Yea, that KR

You all act like the new supe should be sainted or something for going to a football game. Get a grip. He loves football, used to play on the NYPD team, so what about him showing up is such a big deal? Sure, in that situation he's a great guy--let's see what he does that actually means something.

Good thing he likes the Enforcers. I guess they'll keep being able to duck 2 - 3x a week for practice and get carried game days.

Yah Yah, I know, I'm an asshole, but are we a POLICE department or a football team?

If we're going to do it, lets do it legit, like the honor guard who has a teletype come out when they are to be carried. If a teletype is necessary for the honor guard, it should be necessary for the Enforcers as well. Flame away !!!

please, dont believe the hype on the new "boss". Tonight he just disbanded two units.,in an effort to beef up the patrol divison. What he doesnt realize is that he doesnt have the man power to beef up patrol. He claims he has 500 hundred officers to spread to the 5 areas. Those numbers are not accurate. He has 249 officers from MSF and 125 from TRU. Most of the officers are going to patrol while the rest are going to an area mission team. Lets just say "its going to be up in Harlem

- Don't know where these numbers came from. But 196 currently has only 25 P.O's assigned- so I call BS. They won't deplete a unit that bad, unless they wanted it to get ready for disbandment - Those numbers listed above are
made up.

Actually nobody like KR. Looks like you'll be back in the district too sgt. Im sure you will land on feet though.

I wonder what your KR will do during these three months? Will he be the assistant commander somewhere or will he be sent with his troops to be a WC somewhere. Wonder if he will acknowledge his underlings as a WC or still only speak to the people in the office?

This was a fantastic game, and a fantastic day. Both Police and Fire have spent months putting it together and it showed. The Charities for both sides are the real winners . I didn't see even a hint of problems with the fans, and Brian Earlacher was the biggest jerk in the stadium (wanted to watch the game so please keep the kids away from him) Ok tough guy do it yourself.. Greg Olsen put on the Jersey posed for pictures, and played catch with the kids. A real class act. Volunteers, players, coaches thank you all for this new tradition . May next year be even better, and may KR come out from MCarthys ass without forcepts....
