The Endless Cycle

A "memorial" for last year's dead gang banger results in.....ANOTHER dead gang banger!
  • A person was killed and four others — including an 8-year-old and 10-year-old — were shot Tuesday night during a memorial for a teen on the Southeast Side, officials said.

The group was shot about 9 p.m. near East 79th Street and South Escanaba Avenue, said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.

The 8-year-old was shot in the foot and the 10-year-old was shot in the leg.

The memorial was for a 17-year-old killed last year, officials said.

If only this could have been predicted. And prevented somehow. Maybe a small, almost secret unit of officers riding around to various parts of the city, logging and mapping all of the empty liquor bottle and dollar-store candle memorials. Then they could set up a camera and monitor the situation once the sun goes down.

And then they could call in Predator drone strikes. Honest to pete, what the hell is going on down south?

Speaking of mapping here's one for you. It's a bit off topic but thought that you all may be interested in it nonetheless.

http://www.datapointed.net/visualizations/maps/growth-rings/chicago-illinois/

It's a map visualizing the population change in Chicago based on census data of 2000 to 2010.

Blue indicates an area increasing in population with the darkest blue meaning a doubling in size.

Red represents a decrease in population with the darkest red meaning everyone has left!

You'll note that the city is pretty much a sea of red except for one teeny-tiny island of blue just off the lake.

I guess that is what we would call our "Green Zone" eh?

Oh wait and there is one more island of blue on the north side too. I figure that must be Rahm's neighborhood.

Makes you wonder though. If all the people in these ethnic neighborhoods are fleeing the city why are some of these neighborhoods still so crowded?

Must be illegal immigrant drug cartel members not willing to fill out census forms right?

Wonder what this map would look like if the city residency rule was abolished. Yeah, I know, I know.

Yah... The 8 and 10 year old belong out at 9pm at 79/Escanaba...toilet bowl... To pay tribute to a worthless piece of shit who was killed.. How about having the fucking kids in a fucking bed so they can go to school tomorrow?? That would make fucking sense right? But when all is said and done... the blame will fall upon the police department for not preventing this horrific crime perpitrated on the innocent youthful victims... The asshole parents should have been shot for having the kids on a fucking street corner.

This doesn't really fit here, but I haven't seen any comments on the Pat Camden sighting over the weekend after a police involved shooting. He was making comments to the media and was identified as a spokesman for the FOP. Is the FOP now sending their own spokesman out to police involved shootings??

In it's officially released statistics does the Chicago Police Department count the incident of 5 people being shot at a party as one incident and therefore one shooting or are five more shooting victims added to the official totals?
I guess it would be to much for Chicago's media to ask the Police Department this simple question

As I always say and have been saying for my entire adult life in law enforcement, " Where the hell are the parents of these kids"? Too drunk? Too drugged up? Getting layed? Sleeping? Jail? There are anywhere but involved in the lives of their children. The burden falls on teachers, social workers and the police.

One thing about the incident over on Escanaba.....before you get on the radio screaming try taking a deep breath for one second and collect your thoughts. There is no need to be screaming on the radio like was happening. I get it if a PO is shooting, being shot at, or has been shot. But when you have a bunch of gangbangers memorializing the life of a gangbanger and a few more get thumped, ..... it's not something to get hysterical about. Also, does anyone know if the 10-1 at the hospital shortly after the shooting was related?

It was crazy on 79/Escanaba last night. It literally took a 100 cops to quell the situation.

The gang bangers are doing more then posturing when the Police come.

They actively want to confront us on these crime scenes. Same thing happened at 79/Loomis last week. It is getting worse!

If true brilliant move by Fop to hire a spokeperson to coment on police shootings. We finally have it where there are no comments given at scene or for that matter at all. All that's said is that yes there was a shooting. End of story. Now Camden can come say something erroneous or inaccurate and the officers will be hung out to dry. Boy this Shields guy must owe a lot since all these people are getting jobs.

Hey man, get a life... I've seen this same comment more or less a dozen times on all different topics. Did you get dumped from the Academy recently and now you're bitter? They actually do some pretty decent training at Near North. The Active Shooter course and the TTU course are very good. TARA is not what it should be but still valuable. Now if you want to start dumping POs out of HQ, I'm all for it!

You are an idiot. They should make you a boss. The training done there has, and will, save lives. But the typical CPD idiot response is that the only training you ever need is what you get in the Academy.

Morons like you are the ones no one wants near them when things get bad. You have no skills, can't shoot and are a hazard to everyone around you.

God help the child or family who needs a well trained officer to respond and your sorry ass shows up. Hell, given your response above, you'll even fuck up the report. It'll be one long sentence of spelling and grammar errors.

Now go get your fucking shine box.

You've somehow managed to miss about half a dozen comments about this already. Most of them are under the topic about Shields making changes at FOP.
Personally, I think it's a great idea. People have been bitching here that there's no one out there presenting our side to the media, that there's no one reminding them that the guy who shoots at us is NOT the 'victim' once we shoot back at him, and that Media Affairs is run by someone who's clueless.
Camden is known to the media and he'll be a good rep for us.

Same shit, same street 25 years later.

A coal shovel, tossed from the 3rd Floor, penetrating the front wind shield of your car in the alley is a wake up call. Anyone who knows me, knows that this has been the topic of Officer Safety-Roll Call Training....

it no longer is an option to leave the dead bodies on the ground while you wait for the Crime lab to process the scene--Get the paramedics to pick up the bodies and take them to the hospital! This is now an officer safety issue! Even if its 4 am and there is only the dead body and no people around--the neighborhood seems to come alive and a hostile crowd forms quickly! The most important thing is US--CPD--We have to protect ourselves first before we can protect others! Stay Safe! God Bless!

I agree with SCC, why couldn't a $pecial Unit with a $ix figure C.O. that predicts street violence predict trouble on a street corner filled with gangbangers ?
One thing I learned from years in the ghetto was the event called a "re-pass" , which, uh, occurs a year after ones demise.
Maybe the Great Swami didnt get a lesson on ghetto vernacular whilst in low brow patrol.
And yes there will be special attentions at future events.

If anything, we do not get enough training. Be glad you get a break out of the district and try to pay attention to something that just might save your life some day (or even keep you out of fed court). And when you show up, dont be the P.O. that spends most of the time texting and screwing around on your cell phone or is most concerned about how long is the lunch, and can we get out of here early. Some are just too cool for school I guess..

Bill passes to eliminate gun waiting periods for order of protection filers

(T)he House approved legislation to end 72-hour waiting periods to buy a gun for state FOID cardholders who have obtained an interim or plenary order of protection.

“This is going to help people, typically woman, protect themselves when the police can’t be there to protect them,” said Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights), who was the chief House sponsor of the bill that passed 78-34 and now moves to the Senate.

Gun-control advocates disputed that assertion.

“What you are creating is a loophole to our already porous gun-control laws, and I fear we’re not going to provide any additional help to victims of domestic violence,” said Rep. Will Burns (D-Chicago), the 4th Ward alderman-elect.

Regarding the 10-1 at South Shore Hospital (I was not there):

Just remember what happened to Bill Cozzi when he got involved in a problem in a hospital.

If it is in the hospital, on private property, let their security handle it.

Because you know that you are on camera from every angle when you are there and that can come back to bite you in the ass.

The word is REPAST, which means a meal, and in this case means a post-funeral meal. You know, the kind of event many people have at a home, a restaurant or in a church basement after the passing of a loved one. But don't let your woeful lack of knowledge stop you from making fun of what is a lovely tradition.
