City Sticker Fees

  • Owners of gas-powered cars in Chicago could get some city sticker shock to go along with the pain at the pump if one alderman's plan to increase the cost of the annual stickers is approved.

Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno, 1st, hopes to raise about $21 million a year under a proposal that also would make the stickers free for drivers of electric cars and cut the cost for those with hybrid vehicles.

  • Moreno, who said he hopes to offer exemptions for heavy trucks that people need for businesses, suggested the higher sticker prices are justified because larger vehicles do more damage to city streets.
Of course, it couldn't have anything to do with the crappy material and crappier contractors the city uses to pave and repair streets, not to mention the piss poor job plowing and salting over the winter.

These morons just keep killing business in chicago and driving productive people out. I'm sure Raham is a little smarter then this dummy and knows the city stickers are already outrageous. Chicago is bad for business.

How does a hybrid car cause less wear and tear to the city's streets or take up fewer parking spaces on them?

The Federal government already has rebate incentives for people to purchase hybrids and electrics. Then, there's the built-in incentive to save money on high-priced (and high-taxed) gas, anyway.

Why, in a time of such financial difficulty, would the city cut its own financial throat by incentivizing vehicle stickers?

No. No breaks and no increases. Outrageous, Mr. Moreno, especially the part where you try to cloak this astounding increase in city vehicle sticker fees under the guise of 'being green'. No.

NO! This Alder-creature is doing nothing but playing up to what OBama is trying to do. If you've all been watching the news, recently Obama spoke in public, and in so many words, at this community forum, he wants to make sure we all go green and will require everyone to buy electric cars very soon. He made comments about owners of SUV'S and how it's not practical and wasteful. Now this was his answer for the ridiculous gas prices. Blame it on the SUV'S. He has NO PLANS on lowering gas prices at all, made no mention of it. Doesn't make any sense. His theory or plan? There's no better way of getting people to buy smaller cars if they cant afford gas prices of bigger engines. Problem with all of this is, no one in government wants to try other fuel options. Why? Most politicians and Political contributions come the big oil companies. Funny thing happened that left Obama Stumped is when a hard working middle class republican stepped to the mic and asked Obama WHY he's not doing anything to lower gas prices. He also asked why Obama wants to force everyone to buy small cars; small cars that yes, may save gas, but would not hold up well in most accidents. He then drops the bomb, and says, he has a large family of 8 Children that including him and the wife would not fit in a small vehicle and require an SUV. He also made a comment about how expensive these electric cars that Obama wants everyone to buy are so damn expensive. Well, he made Obama look like a fool, who was lost for words! So, I guess this Aldercreature thinks he's smart by kissing up to Obama early on, and where he might feel he may have a chance of being scooped up by Washington. This City is being destroyed by these fucking liberal democrats! Wanna save money? Cut back on all the welfare and Social Security benefits of all those who never and don't pay taxes, and who have never contributed to social security!!!! Oh! And Immigration too. We're burning up our resources on those who don't contribute, and who never have. Guess that's the new "American Dream".

"The city that works" is not working for me or many other people that I know is all I can say.

Should get interesting -- by summer

Gas should be well over $5/gal resulting in travel cutbacks for those 45 million people that normally visit here.

This economy is ready to shut down and combine that with the upcoming austerity programs..

What taxes are they going to raise then?

They just don't get it!

Do they really think that the electorate is that stupid, that they can get away with this again?

Oh, nevermind. I guess the electorate IS that stupid; look who the've elected.

This is what we get for electing the same old "experienced" politicians and the ruling class of politicians (the 2nd and 3rd generations of politicians).

I tried to convince people in my ward to vote for a fresh new face for our alderman. A gentleman who never held political office and ran a small business. The number one objective I received was "well we need people with experience". People didn't trust ONE OF THEIR OWN. Someone who knew what they were going through.

To that common objection, I said "well any reasonable person can do the job of alderman if they are a honest, decent and possess average intellectual abilities". Yet, people elected someone who held that office for ages and this is what we get.

I am pissed and I am going to run for public office in 2012. I will run for congress.

I can't believe no one brought up the obvious. Doesn't the city buy SUV's for their fleet. And doesn't the presidents (no caps) security detail use SUV's. So if there is no use for them , then why are these agencies buying them, then telling us we can't have them?
And if it wasn't for some of these SUV's and trucks, no one would have recieved any assistance during the past major snow storm.
BTW, my new Crown Vic wastes more fuel than my F250 HD, and the CV is 2 years newer.

AND add salt by having them also carry the financial load by letting those who CAN afford...off without paying a cent.

Doesn't a hybrid Escalade weigh more than a standard Escalade? They jacked up the rates for larger SUVs several years ago with the same lame excuse. It is the trucks (especially overloaded ones) and buses that cause most of the damage to the street.

Also if you remember years ago smaller engined autos paid a lower rate than larger engined autos. The rate was then raised to the larger engine rate for all vehicles with some lame excuse. We are all sheeple.

Vote them all out and they will all be on welfare because they couldn't hold a legit job.

Interesting. Pokey-Joe Moreno wants
to give a pass on buying city stickers to those who can afford a hybrid. Note: Moreno drives a hybrid that he was able to afford
from his city of chicago salary now he wants punish every one who
can't afford to drive one.
He also proposes to give a pass to
those who can afford to purchase
the first cousin to a fork-lift
truck, yep, the battery-powered car. And confusing is his proposal
to exempt large trucks that are used by businesses to pickup and
deliver, that's confusing since they are the ones really destroying
the pavements. Either way we are
looking at a minimum ninety-five
dollar city sticker.
Funny, this alderman wannabe hasn't even been sworn-in yet and already he is proposing a tax increase. Maybe people would not mind if the money was used to repair and maintain the streets and alleys but we know that theywant more money in the kitty for "various" enterprises and to put more friends and relatives on the city payroll, and Pokey-Joe wisely waited until after the election to put forth his tax increase proposal. I wonder did the late Fred Roti vist him in a dream ?

This is a bs tax and a bs reason to raise it, (Fed $ grants fund street improvements, ward offices doles it out, go tap the TIF money Ald. Moroono ), so until my streets are fixed, swept and I see a beat car respond when I call once in a while, the Pickup truck registration will remain in the suburbs ($10 sticker/rv plate) & don't park in the city lot. Three years @ $30, saved $450, but had to apply those annual savings to the rising water bill.
That's how I share my wealth - I'm giving back !!!!
Oh, and Bowzer & Ginger don't have a tags anymore and neither will my Hog.
And when will our 50 Aldermen begin to weep and wail that they hadn't had a raise in over 3 years....???

Off Topic : In todays Suntimes there's a story about this scumbag killing a former girlfriend in Oakbrook after learning, via the internet, that Illinois no longer has the death penalty. I hope the victims family sues this shitty state and our asshat of a govenor! This is a perfect example of how the death penalty DOES prevent murder!

Retired and live in Chicago. My car is registered to a (family) address in the south burbs as well as my DL and insurance. The insurance went down by $150.00 a year - good zip code. I park my car in my garage so not to get a Zone Permit for Chicago 24/7 type. Since I have had my 2nd hip replacement - I do have a handicapped card to put in the window for the parking meters which now run for $1.25 per hour. I only use it for parking on the almost deserted street in my area. I don't use it in the parking lots of grocery or department store lots because I think there are people more deserving then me should use them. (Wheelchairs) But, I don't think that having a fat ass is a handicap. Look at some of the people using the card. I shake my head.

Oh well, one of these days the people of Chicago will be paying $150.00 a year for a sticker.

Sorry for the rant but the pension check only goes so far and Social Security is a laugh. We get "0" because we have a Police Pension.

since hybrids and such use so little fuel, they already pay less in the road use tax that comes from the purchase of gasoline. Looking at it this way, they should pay at least as much as regular fuel vehicles

how about making all the ''fakers'' that live here with the out of city and out of state registration pay in? most of the yuppsters have their cars still registered in michigan-ohio-indiana or the subs. they would rake in some cash.

Oregon dealt with this issue a couple of years ago. They charge Hybrid and now electric cars a road usage tax since they are not getting the 'normal amount' of fuel taxes.

Oh, one semi equals the weight of 12 cars and we can guess the damage the overloaded ones do. Maybe we could inspect and ticket them to raise revenue? Naaah, what am I thinking!

Hopefully you just had a couple of drinks prior to your posting!

"the suvs (sic) takes up more parkting (sic) spaces" or we're concerene (sic) about our citys (sic) pollution", where were the quotes to start that sentence?

It's all about the money and for city workers were (sic) forced to live here and buy them no matter what the cost.

I assume you are talking about a house, right? Where was that ever laid out? You don't like the city? How about you just move. If you write this well on your reports the city can do without paying you your check, and be better off!

Ok, I'll pay more for the city sticker for my 5000 pound hemi truck but how about cutting me some slack with parking it on residential streets?! The folks on midnights in 020 seem to actively seek out my b-truck plate, it's ridiculous.

Actually, I'm in the same boat buddy, same district too. Been in 020 for 5 years and do the ghetto commute every day. If you're properly stickered etc and they still do the tickets then it's a shame.

Some of the grammar, spelling, syntax, etc makes me really wonder about some of my fellow officers make it through the day writing reports.

When I was an FTO, I was a stickler for all of the above and gave the advice to "write every report as if The Mayor and/or The Superintendant would have it on their desk as part of their morning reading.

Defense lawyers JUST LOVE to tear up badly written reports, especially when their guy is guilty.

Larger vehicles ALREADY pay a higher sticker price. According to the alderman, the SUV's take a larger toll on our streets, so I assume all the extra money will go towards repairing JUST streets? I have lived at my house for 16 years and have NEVER had any repais to my streets, never had new sewers, sidewalks or street lights).........If you want your sidewalk fixed, they want you to pay half. How about increasing the fines and impounding cars for those who don't bother to buy a city sticker.......oh wait, that would mean half his ward would be in trouble.......

Wasn't it a year or so ago that the, I believe, no-bid manufacturer of the city stickers was dumped because tens of thousands of city stickers did not stick to the windshield due to the manufacturer cutting corners on the amount of adhesive used?

That is SO Democrat Chicago.

The company that had done it before for decades never produced defective stickers or very, very few.

The people who live in this city and didn't vote for new blood are really gonna get it up the ass.

I'm looking for an exit.

Tens of thousands that can are exiting right now.

And we do..every day.

Properly Stickered?

No Higher than 1in from the bottom of the windshield at the farthest point away from the Drivers Side?

No more than 1 Current City Sticker displayed at a time?

Not attached with any other material other than the stickers own adhesive?

Properly Stickered you say?

About Hipiap1 @ 4/15/2011 05:56:00 PM

As much as I dislike that mouthbreather....he's right.

I know PO's that troll 010 back alley's writing Sticker tickets on vehicles parked inside gates lots and driveways.

I've seen Clerk Vehicles driving around with those Contractors doing the same thing.

I've heard that Revenue ticket machines are directly tied into Sec State for Plate and VIN and DL residency checks.

Thinking you're safe on private property from a city sticker ticket is about as dumb as you can get.

I found the solution to the city sticker rip-off.
As a P/O, I now have my vehicles registered in grandmother's name, way outside the city.

Amazing how they force you to do this.
