Newspaper Comments

We covered this a few days ago in the post titled "More Shots Fired at Police." But here's someone in the comment section who really did some homework on this concerted effort by the media to slant their coverage in a certain direction - most of the time, that direction is anti-police or anti-responsibility-for-a-crime:
  • anyone else notice that on chicagobreakingnews.com that when there is a story about the police the comments section is always enabled but when there is a story about a criminal and the terrible crimes they had committed all comments are disabled? This is the case almost everytime. This story about the sos thing has commenting allowed. The story about the officer shooting and killing the burglar to his house has comments enabled. The story about the cop who saved the man from the burning car had comments disabled. The story about the parolee charged with agg batt and csa downtown has comments disabled. The story about the feds who are getting sued for wrongful arrest has comments enabled but the story of the teen that got kilt for retaliation of a murder he had committed over the summer but was released without charges has comments disabled. coincidence?? I think not. The media loves to get people talking and bashing the police on stories that involve police. if it involves the poor criminal who was just confused then they dont want any comments that might be negative.
This is exactly why we canceled all our newspaper subscriptions and only read them free online. These people can't go out of business fast enough to suit us.

I was raised to believe that reporters & the media we're really interested in the truth. What turned me was that after the Rodney King riots, a Fibune reporter questioned why the jury found the officers not guilty of attempted murder (because of the videotape) when the rest of the country thought it was "obvious" that they were guilty. I actually thought the same until someone told me that there were several MINUTES of the tape that the jury looked at, (the other 2 guys in the car complied) not the few SECONDS that the public saw. I wrote the reporter & they actually printed my opinion, alabeit on a Saturday where it would be least read. The question does remain, however, why would they excuse the actions of a POS like King, allow rioting, deaths, & the conviction of 4 cops who were protecting the public, simply to get their agenda passed. I still can't figure it out.

Big surprise. Do you think that there was no political call made directing that?

Do you really believe that we have a free press? Think again.

Remember Blago was threatening an editor of the Trib? You think that doesn't happen with Daley? With Rahm?

There is no unbiased Fourth Estate. I believe there never was. The Fourth Estate is and always was myth, like the Loch Ness monster.

Newspapers and television always had to sell papers or air time and so, always sensationalized stories. Today, things are different and way worse. The mongrels that own these vast media enterprises are using them to sway the public to their agenda. They have been pretty successful.

Do you remember your grade school history class? They talked about 'yellow journalism'. I wonder what history will call this period, if there is a future.

A little off topic but, Why is it when a rash of crimes or a pattern of crimes is committed by a individual(s) in a certain area the media never gives the race??? You think it might be helpful to know what someone should be on the look out for in order to report them to the proper authorities or hell even for their saftey. If they do not give a race, then why give a sex of the individual??? I just keep hearing that it is the policy of the company bullshit over and over. How can it be racist to tell the public what the witnesses observed and who the police are seeking??? Fucking idiots!!

I noticed too that the tribune disabled comments on the story about the poor woman who was knocked down the Fullerton L stairs by the iPhone thief/murderer.

They disabled the comments only after posters contributed information on the criminal's physical description (woefully missing in the story, but readily available from the community alert that was issued):

"The offender is described as a male black, 17-30 years of age, 5'6'' to 6'4", 130-210, wearing a black hat, black jacket with "WS" on back and blue jeans."

Guess the tribune thinks it's better not to risk offending anyone, than it is to seek justice for a lady who did nothing but good her whole life.

Similar to how the Trib/Sun-Times will rarely (if ever) identify a suspect WANTED in a crime. The lady thrown down the stairs at the Fullerton L station -- lots of talk about the suspect and how the alderman has issued a community alert, but not a SINGLE mention of the race of the suspect.

Covered by the Sun-Times, with photos:

"Chicago Police Officer Mike Grandberg and his canine partner Lexo received a retirement star on March 29, 2011 for Granberg's 40 years on the force and Lexo who sniffed his way to millions of dollars of narcotics."

Comment: A long and happy retirement to both of you.

Anyone who uses newspapers for their source of news is a fool. Or the local news stations for that matter. They are a bunch of ill-informend liberal putzs that could'nt find a story if it bit them in the ass. Getting to the facts is to much work for them, just put baby momma in front of the camera and ask a few question all done. Then they can go back to starbucks and look cool while they type their bull shit and drink over priced coffee. Anyone can be a journalist or a news anchor it does'nt take much. Nothing but a bunch of ivory tower dwellers who know nothing.

You're right, of course, about ChicagoBreakingNews.com's (new) practice of permitting comments on certain stories and not on others. But it's not because they hate the police but because of political correctness. Comments on the countless stories involving black and hispanic criminality were unfashionably blunt, and some were downright over the top.

The press in Shitcago is totally bogus. I stopped reading our local rags more than a few years ago. They are an arm of the shortshanks machine, and the editors wouldn't know the truth if it bit them on the ass.

They print what will further their agenda of keeping the truth from taxpayers, and worry about offending the dregs of our "entitled" leeches.

I do not read them or buy them.

I will buy copies of both when they announce the death of shortshanks.

The Chicago Tribune has gone way far downhill I must say. Politically correct police haters. I canceled my subscription last year and now only read it for free and it isn't worth that.

So what to read? The conservative media give me the republican view, I just want a fair version, that is not possible it seems.

THANK YOU!!! I have not purchased a newspaper in years. I will not contribute my money to these liberal media a$#holes. I really hope they go bankrupt. Do not buy newspapers. Do not contribute to these VULCHERS. The media and the "reporters" are like cancer, they seek out something good and destroy it and once it is destroyed for their "story" they move on and try to destroy something else. They are nothing less than evil people. By the way, if you can avoid it, don't even read the scumtimes on the internet because for every hit it gets it's money towards them. THE MEDIA IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. By the way, not a cop just an observer and think you guys are getting a bad imagine for the benefit of the vulchers good

I also commented today in the Trib on the "wildings" taking place in 018 and 001, and that it always seems to be the same race involved, based on victim statements and video. I said that people who thought that my comment was racist lived in a bubble. I also said they should stop making excuses for the "disenfranchised youth", by doing so they are part of the problem not the solution. Now, I can't find ANY comments anywhere.

This the kind of bullshit that makes your blood boil. If you look at those officers who have lost their lives to do a job that few would do, the officers who have been injured seriously enough to end their carreer, those numbers are never mentioned, but we know of several through the years and by scum that seem to be protrayed as the victims of society. What the hell is happening to our system.
One day when life as folks know it has changed, where good folks change their life styles due to scumbags that the media doesn't want to talk about an editors don't want to offend oh your correct, were there now.... One day when some dipshit media whore becomes a victim and learns first hand what its like to have less rights then the offender that accosted them......they still will have their head up their ass, but they can look in the mirror and maybe get a partial clue as to why..
Ok enough.....I feel so much better now, I think I'll even cancell my shrink appt......at least for today Stay safe out there,

Bravo SSC. I finally cancelled that rag in 2002. Fourth estate my a$$ - more like the Fifth Column. Yep, Herr Goebbels has to be smiling in hell every time he scans that yellow rag. The only way I might be tempted to re up to that crap"newspaper" is if Marge Schott was raised from the dead and wrote a daily column for the editorial page. Now that would be worth the price of admission.

Re: the King situation: everything that happened was the cop's fault. If you cannot accept that, you are going to cause more of the same. Believe it or not, there are horrible cops (I knew several as "friends" in downstate), and they will cause you trouble. Protect them if you wish; that will just make you as guilty as they are.

I know several top-flight cops. They admit that there are terrible people serving as cops who commit violent illegal acts. Man up to it and shove them out of the brotherhood, or expect all of their illegal acts to be blamed on all of you.

I cancelled my Time and Newsweek subscriptions 30 years ago. The liberal slant started then, for me. I was out of college a year or two and knew that the teachers were off the reservation even then.

They teach and write about the world they would like us to live in. I just live in the real world.
