I live in Mt. Greenwood. Wednesday I was off and my neighbor and I were using snowblowers to clear our sidewalks and in front of our houses and some of our neighbors. No biggie, just making parking and all that shit.

Then I saw an SUV with two revenue women in it, driving slowly down the street. I don't know what they were looking for, but in these times I don't doubt the possibility they'd hang bullshit tickets for not clearing snow.

It expires in fourteen months. Any idea what happens in twelve months, folks? The mayoral election. The mayor is a skunk; he stinks.

Does this mean I can go home while on duty to shovel the snow so I don’t get a ticket?
Do I need an event number with it?
What if my house is not in the D.O.C.?
Do I get credit for shoveling on my performance evaluation?
If I write the tickets for not shoveling does that count on my performance evaluation?
If I pay the kid down the block to shovel, who gets “the kick-back”?
Do I have to use a shovel or a snow blower supplied by a company owned by someone named “Daley”, or will any “Lil Dick” do?

Tough questions….
(P.S.: To the O/P... Post the inspectors name! Someone here has got to know where he lives, possibly pay him back the favor!)

Snow and Ice Removal

The City Code addressing property owners/tenants responsibilities is listed below.

10-8-180 Snow and Ice Removal.

Every owner, lessee, tenant, occupant or other person having charge of any building or lot of ground in the city abutting upon any public way or public place shall remove the snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of such building or lot of ground.

If the sidewalk is of greater than five feet, it shall not be necessary for such person to remove snow and ice from the same for a space wider than five feet.

In case the snow and ice on the sidewalk shall be frozen so hard that it cannot be removed without injury to the pavement, the person having charge of any building or lot of ground as aforesaid shall, within the time specified, cause the sidewalk abutting on the said premises to be strewn with ashes, sand, sawdust, or some similar suitable material, and shall, as soon thereafter as the weather shall permit, thoroughly clean said sidewalk.

The snow which falls or accumulates during the day (excepting Sundays) before four p.m. shall be removed within three hours after the same has fallen or accumulated. The snow which falls or accumulates on Sunday or after four p.m. and during the night on other days shall be removed before ten a.m.

10-8-190 Liability for civil damages.

Any person who removes snow or ice from the public sidewalk or street, shall not, as a result of his acts or omissions in such removal, be liable for civil damages. This section does not apply to acts or omissions amounting to willful or wanton misconduct in such snow or ice removal.

Well, no inspector was driving down the street looking for unshoveled snow. Some rat neighbor probably burned up the phone line to the alderman's office. I wonder who writes the citations for all that property that is owned by the city that never gets shoveled?

2/12/2010 05:25:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Doesn't this contradict what Insurance Companies reflect as you being held liable if someone gets hurt on your property after you have shoveled? You are not held accountable if it is an act of God, meaning snow fell, but if you tried to shovel it, ice formed or it just gets slick again as snow is blown or new snow has fallen, it is your fault!

Also, what if it snows all day as it did 2 days ago? Do you stay home from work and shovel all day?

Don't people have jobs? How can you remove snow in 3 hours if it occurs before 4? Since we are city workers, can we ask to be released early to follow the ordinance?

I am sure we can find a hell of a lot more things for the Inspectors to review that do not incude bullshit as this. Tax payer dollars gone down the tubes. Instead of looking into CPD's budget, start looking into some units that work right where you work Mayor Daley.

This is so obvious they are jamming up people who work, pay taxes and take care of their business. Fucking assholes, all of them. From Daley on down.

I have six trees on the city property and when the leaves start to fall, I can't keep up with the deluge. Also, I've seen Revenue walking in the neighborhood writing tickets for trivial stuff like obstructing the sidewalk while parked in the driveway, parked facing the wrong side of the street. You're right, they only do it in "safe" taxpaying wards. The ghetto is spared.

How about we put the mutts at the jail on a chain gang and have them shovel snow. They are doing it in Virginia because they needed the manpower to keep up with the amount of snow they have. Since we as taxpayers are paying for their room and board, why don't we keep them busy. And when the snow melts they can clean up the garbage in the neighborhoods. They could have 3 shifts at the jail. Work, Rest and recreation. Rotate them in and out....no overcrowding....no early release. Idle hands are the devils workshop, right?...I'm just sayin

O.T.

Is there anyone that lives on the NW or SW side or any part of the city that has been or is being targeted by the DOR ?

Does anyone have any legal expertise to go after the city for these bullshit redlining tactics?

An earlier post said that their mother's house was ticketed for failing to shovel.

Are you kidding me? NOBODY in the ghetto shovels their sidewalks. Their are countless city ordinance violations that are ignored.

Let's cut the bullshit. The reason the DOR targets the NW and SW side is that they know the fines will be paid and not ignored and uncollected like in other areas. This kind of targeting of certain areas cannot be legal.

Is their an attorney out there willing to look into this and take up the cause. I would be more than happy to contribute to any type of class action suit.

Enough is enough! The city had to stop fucking with the law abiding citizen who can pay his bills.

Maybe I should give the city a ticket for not clearing my cul- de-sac. EVER! With this last storm and the blowing snow, I still have about a foot of snow in the cul-de-sac. I would be confident in the knowledge that when the snow melts it will easily drain into the sewer system, but a year ago when they came to fix the collapsing drain, they did such a piss poor job that it has collapsed only a year later. Great job. But my walk is clear!

Just go shovel the fucking snow. If you're fit enough to do it, shovel the neighbor's too. What's the big deal? If you are worried about shut-ins, etc., shovel their sidewalks too.

As for what they do in the ghetto . . . whatever. There are a lot of things that happen in the ghetto I don't do. Leaving snow on the sidewalks and stairs is one of them.

Third, as for the liability, your insurance company only matters if there is a legal claim against you. If there cannot be a legal claim, per ordinance, your insurance company doesn't care. No conflict.

Finally, this law is much older than Daley. Since they don't even mention salt as an option for when the sidewalk is frozen, my guess is that the law is from way back, like the 1800s or early 1900s. Snow has been falling here at least that long.

So you're saying that on the one hand coppers won't write tickets and on the other they must not be doing their job by supposedly writing a ticket. Which one is it? Furthermore coppers have better things to do than write BS tickets. How are you picking up our slack by writing tickets? That's all you do. If you didn't have tickets to write you wouldn't have a job.

My commute via public transit is 4 1/2 hours per day on top of my 8 1/2 hour work day. Guess I'm going to get tickets over here..

You apparently chose to move to Wisconsin or Indiana, not us.

Not that that is a BAD thing.

Does Revenue employees get CR's for doing their job no, get suspended for doing their jobs no. Did you take a test for your job at Revenue no and a vast majority of your fellow Revenue workers paid or performed political work for your jobs for some politician that tells his constituents to beef on the Police if they do not like the actions of the Police.

Oh shut the hell up you lap dogs of a sociopathic, megolamaniacal schizoid. At least police serves a purpose. If Dumb Mayor wanted to generate revenue, he'd cut you hacks and farm out your work to civilians, which is what he's gonna do. You political hacks are nothing but the butt licking lackeys of a soon to be ex mayor.
BTW, what tests did you take for your job? Pick the right church? what kind of background exam you take, a financial check to see if you paid off a politico?
Don't build yourselves up. Monkeys can do your job.
Let me catch one of you " revenooers" violating the law... I WILL do my job, and you won't like it!
