No Openings Again

But this time, instead of no actual openings, a screw up by Management and Labor Affairs:
  • After a great deal of discussion with Management and Labor Affairs, the Lodge was advised that recognized vacancies for the third police period were scheduled to be posted on Thursday, February 11, 2010. The submission time for these requests was to be increased from seventy-two hours to ninety-six hours due to the Friday and Monday holidays. As of 1615 hours on Saturday, February 13, 2010, the recognized vacancies have yet to be posted. The Lodge will address this issue first thing on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 when the MLAS offices reopen for business. Units will be notified of the resolution which will also be posted on the FOP wwebsite.

Although I've only been on seven years, in that relatively short time it has never been explained to me, nor can I find anyone who knows, how the Department decides who has openings and who does not. Now it seems to me, in the interest of fairness and transparency, our union and current superintendent would find a solution to this problem of obvious collusion. Then it dawns on me that our current union leadership is worth to us about as much as the superintendent. That is to say, I have as much faith in that weasel called superintendent as I do for the thieves called our union leadership. Those bums put up a facade of caring and action onto the most mundane and trivial of issues in an effort to fleece us into believing they are fighting for our contractual rights. Now what do ya think MLAS is gonna say when the mighty and fearsome FOP calls them? I'm guessing something along the lines of, "oh yeah, I'll take care of it later. Anything else? No? Ok." Click. It's time for us to realize how impotent, ineffectual, and untrustworthy the current FOP truly is. Please start going to meetings or writing emails letting these lemmings know their bullshit isn't working and to step up or step down.

Way to throw your fellow copper under the bus!

I hope I don’t work with/for you!!!

HOW ABOUT THIS: Keep the 2 on the range; hire about 3000 more officers like our budget reflects!

This whole "Get rid of X unit, disband those guys, I can’t have this so get rid of them" cry-baby pussy mentality HAS GOT TO FUCKING STOP! Pull your head out of your ass for a second and take a serious look around, WE ARE A DIVIDED DEPARTMENT! Divided translates to WEAK. I guarantee we are going to get fucked on this upcoming contract. Why? Cause we are weak! Way to much in-fighting, too many willing to toss someone else under the bus way too fast! The Bosses know this, 35th St knows this, J-Fraud knows this and the midget on the 5th floor banks on it every fucking day we don’t have a contract and still work our asses off!

At a time like this, we need to stick together! We need to show the FOP, the bosses and the City we mean business! However, we can’t do it as a bunch of individuals stabbing each other in the back.

SCC has an incredible conduit to pass information. There’s a way to regulate it, screen out the bullshit. With a little common scene, filter out any “Mis-Information” which may be posted from 35th ST (Don’t think J-Fraud is not beyond pulling a stunt like that on something as “insignificant” as SCC!). Expose the bullshit lies that are fed to us. However, we find it all too easy under the veil of anonymity to advocate the fucking over of one of our own.

Sad, man, real fucking sad……

Hello out there fellow tactical warriors!

The reason why we have no openings is because the brass aren't sure what to do after I opened up my own satellite station. Yep, you heard right. I found an old, abandoned "Dairy Queen" out in Mount Greenwood and decided to make it my own private headquarters in my ongoing quest to eradicate the G.A.Y.L.O.R.D. gang once and for all.

So far the Woman's Tactical Association has joined along with the special black-ops gun teams that target retired cops. Don't worry, all members are allowed to hang out and do nothing and still get paid on company time.

My facility is state of the art with top notch training equipment. I bought an old, mechanical bull from a country western bar out in Berwyn to simulate what it's like to wrestle and arrest an offender high on PCP. (I can only assume it's accurate since I've always let the lowly blue shirts take on one of those maniacs. As my idol Tobias once told me, "It takes a bigger man to walk away from a fight. Now, take off your pants and sit down with me on my Harley")

Qualifications are easy. All a prospecting member has to do is have gotten a C.R. number, at one time or another, against a fellow officer and have at least one phone call to get here.

And since I know the cops that read this blog are good at keeping a secret, my satellite station has a fully stocked, Apple Pucker, bar. Borat comes by now and then to play pin the tail on the Deputy D. Man! You should see that guy dance the "Ickey Shuffle" after a couple of shots!

Until next time fellow Delta Force warriors. Hope to see you there!

The city continues to ignore the contract. MLAS Commander O'Neil was formerly a rep for the Lt's union too. Now he is suckhole for the administration.

They ignore contract, I ignore orders. They fuck over PO's. I do nothing. This is as fucked up as I have ever seen this job and it isn't getting better. Now we hear at FOP meetings that a two tiered pension system is coming for new hires. It will continue to get worse, much worse. What then is to look forward to if there is no pension?

God help the people yet to be hired on this job.

the city controls openings
WHY?
look to your contract
Local 2 knows what to put in a contract vs Markie and the boys
Most important "mandatory manning"
If Markie wasn't in the mayor's pocket (Markie's next job after mandatory exit from FOP Prez will illustrate how far up the mayor's rectum he is!!!)
If we had "mandatory manning" what a different world we would live in.
This goes to the heart of power of any union especially public service because the mayor can't export your job to Mexico or bid it out like the janitors.
"Mandatory manning would ensure either enough boots on the street or valuable call back $$$.
Markie has never never negotiated real benefits for members that would at least level the playing field..........DUMP ALL THE INSIDE GUYS.....starting with dougherty and bella DIMARIA is the only "real fraternal guy in FOP" because he is smart enough to stay out of the bullshit

You are 110% correct!!!! I only wish scc would start deleting post where 1 officer rips on another. We can't look like we are divided. We will always have differences, just like a family. I believe if you are gonna criticize another officer, unless you sign your name to the post, the post should not be published. Post that are ok to publish are post where officers who have been found guilty of a crime and all options of appeal have been exhausted. Or a supervisor who is taking advantage of his/ her rank and violating our contract and the depts rules and regulations. It's time for us to change.

Old Revolver Cop Says; BRAVO!!!!!

Never said better, and i'm not a rangemaster or training person. Came on the job in the early '70's.

I will try to explain the 2 man range necessity. Many years ago(starwars) the range men were coming down with black lung disease from inhailing too much gunpowder, it can and will cause cancer. The EPA mandated that you can only spend x-number of hours exposed to those fumes, and even with the best air filtration systems, you still breath that stuff all day long. They found this out in the early '80's at 025 when they had to shut down the entire range for over a year (that was just one example).

Can you run a range with just 1 man? Probably yes, many of the suburbs do it, BUT they do not have hundreds of officers showing up to fire every day.

It would take one man two to three times as long to do it alone, and lets face it, we are not robots.

It's a safety issue. That's why they alternate who works the range and who works the desk to check people in.

And if you ever watch officers coming in to get ready to shoot, it's a wonder we don't have more accidental shootings in the waiting areas.

I prefer to go to a private facility and practice shooting. Your ammo, targets, etc., expenses are all tax deductable.

And more important, after reading most of these comments on the blog, I have to agree with the people of not trying to do more with less, we need more coppers.

The City is not now, nor will it ever be your buddy. Management could care less about us. They are only concerned about that GOLD STAR and the perks (which are getting to be less every day, mandatory furlo days, etc.)

Quit Bitching about the FOP! If you want to change it, start going to every meeting and sign in so you will be able to run in the next election (if you do not have the required number of meetings under your belt, you will be ineligible to be nominated and run).

It's OUR problem, stick together and quit picking everything apart!

Life is not Fair, so learn to live with what you have and work to make it a better working place.

p.s. to the 7 year guy. Glad you finally woke up and smelled the coffee. Nothing is legit on this job anymore, as if it ever was.

The annointed ones will always get that spot you wanted, no matter how hard you worked or studied for it (clout rules in this town).

Being a company man will get you nowhere but frustrated.

Since we STILL do not have a contract and the short one is doing everything possible to delay it's outcome, do ONLY what you have to survive every day. Drive with Extreme care and obey the SPEED LIMITS when going on those calls, NEVER go ALONE even if you are foolish enough to work a 1 man car, wait for a backup, ALWAYS!

And most important, use common sense. The Brass love to give orders to make them look good but they are not always legit orders!

Don't throw each other under the bus like j-fed does!

AMEN Brothers and Sisters!

Interesting argument.

Is our union weak because street coppers are finally complaining that their workload has quadrupled, while portions of their fellow coppers use clout and other personal connections to get into units that by and large get way more perks and do way less work?

OR, perhaps our union is weak because too many coppers don't like it when senority dictates their assigment. These coppers want their perks now. So, they use their family members, their friends, and their family members' friends to get an assignment that gives them their perks NOW without senority.

The only thing a copper has who has no clout, is senority.

All specialized units in this department should have minimum standards. Physical tests, time on the street, minimum arrest requirements, minimum ticket requirements, shooting ability, and education (if such an education is actually required by the assigment).

Once you reach those minimum standards the decision should be made...by senority.

It's the coppers who flocked to the made-up management units that have dissolved our negotiating power. They are the ones who turned their back on our union when they gave up contract provisions to get an assignment they didn't put the time in to earn.

But fear not. It will all even out in the end because in 5 years all assigments, including district assigments, will be management picks. And when this union is finally and totally dissolved in the next 5-10 years today's political dollies will be the ones to get screwed over by the new generation of political hacks. And the officers who fed into the bullshit clout system that we have today will get to live full time in the sewer they created. Senior officers in a department that doesn't give a crap how much time you have.

Hey Dude, you still dont know what your talking about. Have you ever gone to a union meeting? I never saw you "step up" and tell Donahue he was full of shit. Have you ever seen the complete lack of participation from the membership on almost any issue? The only thing the FOP membership does with any regularity and accuracy, is bitch and complain. If our members could pull thier heads out from thier asses, things would be much different, or maybe even somewhat different. You cant just sit back, and expect everyone to do everything for you, participate or be quiet. Hope you learned something for the rest of your career, it's not going to get easier by itself.

It's been confirmed, yet not yet made common knowledge:

All the goofs finally assigned to the area gun/gang teams will be sent to districts either starting the 6th or 7th period (still to be determined).

There is a MAJOR reshuffling of manpower coming. Unfortunately for those that signed-up for the glory of being on an "elite" area team will have NO say-so as to where they'll be assigned. EXPECT TO WIND UP ANYWHERE MANPOWER IS SHORT, BOYS AND GIRLS. And that means any watch, also. Since you are no longer "detailed", but "assigned" to the area teams, you have given up your rights to get back to your district of origin.

Initiative "Clean Slate" (that's one of the names the brass is kicking around) will end the existence of MSF, TRU, Area Gang/Gun Teams, etc., and ship the patrolmen from these units back to the districts. Only after all manpower in the districts is brought up to snuff will they consider re-forming SOME variation of the disbanded units, but in much smaller numbers.

All you clout babies better start making your calls now. Midnights in the Deuce may be your next assignment.

There's going to be a lot of disgruntled "hard chargers" coming to a district near you in the near future.

And now the bombshell: All this reshuffling is in the works courtesy of a certain boss that resembles a wrestler.

You heard it here first folks.

While I agree there shold be some sort of criteria for getting into units, especially Marine, Mounted, K-9, SWAT, but come on not all of them, Mass Transit? what the requirement for that absolute dog unit?
I disagree about senority, the fact is that if all units were by senority, all the units would be filled by complete dogs who once there would have no fear of being dumped for lack of productivity, a sad but true fact, look at Mass Transit and Ohare, anyone there by senority is there to retire and do nothing with the union protection of SENORITY.
Anyone care to agree or disagree?

Agreed, but like in private industry as you climb the totem pole with years on your job gets better, seniority must still mean something! When you get time on the job then you will appreciate seniority even more!

This whole "Get rid of X unit, disband those guys, I can’t have this so get rid of them" cry-baby pussy mentality HAS GOT TO FUCKING STOP!

Why? Are you that afraid of working the watch???

2/14/2010 07:32:00 PM

Afraid? Me? Fuck no! I drive a shitty blue and white on the 3rd watch in a Dist in A-1. I've been doing it for a while, and enjoy where I am. Anything else?

Be careful what you wish for, if we had mandatory manning ALOT of people would be getting their comp time denied, personal days and bfd's only and then coppers would be bitching about that so now what?

Sorry but I have 17 years on so i'm not really concerned about it, I just think making all units by senority would ruin those units, which is why the department doesn't allow it, because they know it too...
