Fun While It Lasted

  • Democrat Scott Lee Cohen formally ended his strange political odyssey toward the lieutenant governor’s office today.

An attorney representing the Democratic Party of Illinois submitted a signed letter from Cohen to the State Board of Elections, indicating Cohen’s wish to be dropped from the November general election ballot.

Cohen’s move came after disclosures from his divorce case — including allegations that he put a knife to a prostitute’s throat — brought calls from within the Democratic Party for him to step down as Gov. Quinn’s running mate.

It would have been fun as hell and maybe even led to a republican resurgence in Illinois. No one knows what happens next.

Open post in the meantime.

He hinted last week to Phil Ponce on Chicago Tonight that he might consider running as an independent for Lt Gov.

He didn't exactly commit to it, but said he's "keeping all of his doors and windows open" regarding his future in politics, and refused to rule out a run as an independent.

did anyone see that pawn shop commercial w/ the 2 muscular hard guys - I think it was a loop pawshop?

I laughed out loud when I saw that commercial because the 2 mobster looking types were something right out of a movie - they were trying to look all hard guy in the commercial -

anyway there was one of those guys right next to Cohen at the election night thing - it was on the news - the hard guy had Cohen cornered and was whispering in his ear - looked like Pesci in Goodfellas talking to Deniro

what a joke

Even if the Arbitrator rules it will be sometime before we see the results. The Arbitrator's ruling has to be presented to the City Council. If the City Council rejects the ruling, the City and FOP have 10 days to meet then an additional 90 days iron out the issues. Any monetary award/retro check will not be paid for another 120 days after. The worst case is that you wait 7 full months to see a retro check.

There has never been a honest two party system in Chicago or Illinois. Daley or Madigan will never let anything like this happen again. You will see candidates put up just to split votes and ensure they get re-elected. This could be the last election for them! VOTE THEM OUT!

That was his brother. Scott owned a pawn shop on state and randolph, one brother owned one across from the MCC, and another brother had one on the north side.

Speaking of Chicago boondoggles, I was in Hyde Park the other day and saw some workers, I believe the company name was "Clean Slate" sweeping the sidewalks and gutters. Who is THAT company connected to, and whatever happened to those robotic machines the city had bought (rented?) that were going to make the city all modern and clean? I know they didn't clean the streets as advertised, although they cleaned Chicago taxpayers pockets pretty well. They were a tad pricey, as I recall...

OT - George Ryan Asks Obama For Release From Prison

"There's nothing to be gained by keeping him another (three) years," (his attorney, former Gov) Jim Thompson said of Ryan, who is scheduled to be released in 2013. "He's already been punished, they are penniless, and Mrs. Ryan has a very life-threatening illness. We're not asking for a pardon, just a release."
