- [Channel 2] On the Second City Cop blog, some commentators also blamed the city Department of Streets and Sanitation, claiming the department had been ordered to stop salting Lake Shore Drive despite slick conditions.
So our readers are a bunch of malcontents looking to blame other city departments for the conditions that led to the fatal crash of a police sergeant?
- According to other media reports, at least one S&S driver is claiming that they were ordered to stop salting the Drive after 3 AM;
- A high-ranking department member is quoted saying that the sergeant's car was ready to be put out to pasture;
- The media has been reporting for years now when winter speed limits go into effect on LSD and have openly reported that the reason for these reductions is to stop splashing salt onto the planter boxes - how difficult is it to see that less salt and less splashing is resulting in less safe conditions?
Our readers have incredible insight into the inner machinations of the political system here in Chicago. The lore passed among coppers is extensive. We know the political stories. We see the connections every day. People like to talk to cops and cops are natural listeners. There is a big story here if only it were properly investigated and exposed.

The blog is not insignificant and neither are the majority of cops who post here, especially the majority of blue shirts.
Stories like these get out because the good cops are tired of the bullshit, e.g. clout promotions, clout spots, poor equipment, unsupportive bosses, etc. There are cops who do good jobs day in and day out.
They don't give a fuck about being heroes or stars. They just do their job. They are tired of being pissed on being told to suck it up. So, for now the stories will be told any way they can.
I said it over a year ago, and I will say it again: For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction. Continue to push the blue shirts and they will push back. It is as simple as that.
As for those who are naysayers about the police letting these stories out to the media and the public because they are embarrassing CPD, oh well, reality sucks.
Mr. Mayor, Superintendent, et al, you want things to change in CPD? Start treating us properly. If there is a screw up in the ranks, deal with the screw up, but don't punish the watch. Be honest and transparent, since that is the new buzz word. If you do the same old things, you will get the same old results.
The order to stop salting came prior to 3AM. Fox News needs to subpoena the records from 0001-0800hrs.

The residents of this economically depressed town in RI have an average salary of $22,000. The teachers union was asked to increase the hours the teachers taught by a modest amount and to have teachers take lunch with the kids in an attempt to enhance a dialouge with the kids. The union and teachers, who are paid $72-78,000/year with Cadillac benefits told the town and parents, nope.
No bold print about that here by the media. They wouldn't want people in Chicago to start asking questions about the graduation rate here for what we pay union teachers. Nope , can't have that now. It might upset the mayor and his union twins.

Police ambassadors at the auto show were telling people don't worry about the police test the city is doing away with it. If true goodbye civil servant protection welocome the new Tamney Hall. Can you pictue the hiring corruption? Alderman will have police hires totally under their control. Anyone for this is a true fool or koolaid drinker. The test was never about anything but being fair. Most lawsuits were from M/1's being dicriminated against, so Im all for testing. If the test goes its another nail in the coffin. One more year and Im in Florida be careful take care of each other. It's amazing how ignorant our media is, AMAZING! They would rather do a story on a lowly policeman who may or may not have screwed up than gather a good story to help bring down the machine.
I have inside sources that told me the whole stop salting story is true. The question that remains is whether or not the order to stop salting went over the radio or the cell phone. City cell phone records need to be requested as well. Very reliable information that it came from the streets and san commissioner to stop salting. He gave the order to some foreman who in turn passed it on to the drivers.
After the accident, salt trucks were blasting salt up and down lake shore drive, around the squad cars at the accident scene. People knew they fucked up.
Now everyone is in a panic and trying to cover it up. Trying to hide everything. I just hope the media isn't afraid to dig in the dirt a little bit, because it is all there.
Hey media, do your job for the family of a fallen cop. Dig through the dirt.
I remember the huge investigation into the cause of the crash that killed Princess Diana in Paris.
If Weis was running things in that case, he would complain of outrageous finger pointing, the blame game, it was just an accident, case closed.
Even if Northside is wrong, we need an outside prosecutor to get to the bottom of Sgt. Haymaker's death just to clear the air and see that it never happens again.
Since the city could be entirely liable for the crash, it's a conflict of interest to take Weis statements as truthful. He has a history of telling lies. After all, the same city pays him $310k a year for doing God knows what. He has no business leading the investigation because he is bought and paid for.
Then again, Sgt. Haymaker was not royalty like Princess Diana. Let sleeping dogs lie.

A little off of this topic, but; I was just on a cruise to St. Thomas. The comedian had a field day calling Chicago "The most corrupt city in America" he got a lot of laughs with his jokes. It is embarasing to tell people that you meet that you are from Chicago, admitting that you are or where a cop in this town is even harder. As a citizen and a motorist living in Edgewater, I am terrified that the city would not salt Lake Shore Drive when icy surface conditions warrant it.

Chicago media are worthless. I stopped my newspaper subscription a couple of years ago. When I do watch the TV news (not that often), I use my mute button lest I vomit at their claptrap. I live near Buena and Sheridan and must drive to Hyde Park early every weekday morning. Why did Daley ever pick this a-hole Weis for top cop in the first place? It's an understatement that this is a cover-up. Northside should run for office. He's trustworthy and seems to have much integrity. Is he a police officer?

In the movie Mister Roberts, James Cagney plays the part of the Captain of a Naval ship not involved in combat during WWII and is also a Daley type of commander, small and vindictive. Cagney has a small palm tree plant outside of his quarters and lovingly waters and tends to it daily.
All through the movie Jack Lemmon, who plays the part of Ensign Pulver, threatens to do various things to Cagney to cause him the same misery that Cagney causes the troops. Pulver is afraid of his own shadow and manages to stay out of Cagney's way for 18 months as Cagney does not even know that Pulver is on the ship, much less one of his Officers.
At the end of the movie Henry Fonda, who plays the part of Mister Roberts and who stood up for the troops, managed to get himself transferred off Cagney's ship to another command that was involved in combat. A letter subsequently reaches the men assigned to Cagney's ship informing them that Roberts has been killed in action.
Does anyone remember what Ensign Pulver, who suddenly grew some balls after learning of Roberts' death did?
In case you do not I will tell you. Pulver tore Cagney's beloved palm tree from its planter and threw it over the side into the ocean. He then banged on Cagney's door and informed him that he, Ensign Pulver, threw his damn palm tree over the side. Squads: While you're at it on the current, decrepit condition of our cars can you tell the public that we don't carry fire extinguishers, defribrilators, first aid kits, heavy weapons, any kind of computer system that works in a timely manner (if you're lucky enough to get one) or that is safely installed in the vehicle, personal protection devices (for airborne attack, first responder eh?) or anything other than two seatbelts a giant metal cage and sometimes a PA.
We can barely respond with anything that resembles a tool. We do the best with what we have, our wits, our knowledge of the human being and our voices.
