Shutdown #3

The last of three "non essential" government shutdowns is this Thursday:
  • The City of Chicago will be shutting down early for the Christmas holiday, as part of Mayor Daley's plan to save the cash-strapped city money.

City Hall, public libraries, health clinics and most other city offices will be closed on Christmas Eve as those city workers are being forced to take the day off without pay.

Police and Fire Department operations are not affected and will remain fully staffed. Any other worker needed to provide for the public's safety will also be on the job.

As part of the 2009 budget, three reduced-service days were planned for 2009: Aug. 17, the Friday after Thanksgiving; and Christmas Eve.

The city expects to save $8.3 million.
So don't expect most of the fueling locations to be open, Animal Control may take forever to respond to calls, Area Garages will probably be closed, and if it snows, lord only knows if the plows will be out.

How can the police remain fully staffed? CPD has been short for years. And there is no end to the shortage in sight.

Think of the money that could be saved if 121 N. La Salle St permanently shut down.

Exempts must make up the furlough days for pension purposes.

That golden parachute makes them jump through hoops faster than a Madison Ave whore licking a lollipop.

Shutdown's???????

The biggest shutdown in the city happened last night at the U.C. and his name was NABOKOV!

Tough loss after a well played game (other than the collapse of the angry Frenchman).

In 2010 we have 12 days of unpaid we can pick. 6 days have to be before June 2010 and the other 6 have to be before December 31, 2010. All of our holidays are unpaid too! So, we have a total of 24 unpaid furloughs for 2010. And non-union employees are no elgible EVER for paid over-time. Damn...wish i took that police test!

Exempts still are taken care of. How many civilian employeees loose money and pension because of the forced layoff? Exempts are covered. Hell with everyone else.

Happy Holidays??

With the holiday season upon us, I would like to discuss with all members the importance of taking care of each other and your families. The holidays, combined with everyday stress, can adversely impact your decisions at this time of year. So if you, or someone you know, have consumed alcohol to excess, then please do not drive. Not only is doing so a crime, it can have dire
consequences.

By drinking and driving you are jeopardizing not only your life, but the lives of those around you, including family members, friends and innocent persons. You are also risking your career, and consequently, the financial well-being and security of yourself and those who depend on you.

Finally, as you are all aware, your actions directly affect the reputation of your fellow officers and that of the Chicago Police Department, the finest law enforcement organization in the world.

The Department has resources available to help if you have an alcohol or substance abuse problem. I urge you to contact EAP’s 24-hour peer support counseling office at 312-747-5492 for further information and assistance if you need it or know of someone who does.

There is assistance available if you have a problem with alcohol consumption, but the decision
ultimately belongs to you to determine when you’ve had enough. Please don’t place innocent lives,
your career and the well-being of your family in danger by drinking and driving.

Look out for one another. If you see someone who has had too much to drink, don’t let him or her get behind the wheel. Take care of each other, just as you would on the street responding to a call.

You owe it to yourselves, your families, and the citizens of this great city.

With best wishes to each of you for a safe and joyous holiday season and happy New Year.

Superintendent of Police

Gee, all those people take off and the city saves $8.3 million.

Then shanks gives $8.5 million to Gary Grossinger so he can move his auto dealership to a better location within the city, gotta love the logic of city management!

p.s. Does Grossinger give us cars to use for free, nah, he sells them to make profits.

Law off Corp Counsel...I can just settle my own beefs for $14,000 since they don't ask the officer's their side anyway!

Per head para legal: "We get so many of these, we just ask them what they want to go away"! When asked why I wasn't questioned in reference to a lawsuit against me.

And please don't tell me, just be glad the city settled and you didn't have to pay anything. Well...we didn't do anything wrong and it's your money they are throwing at these dummies! If we had done something wrong, they wouldn't have settled for $14,000.

FYI, all the garages will have a service writer there, Area 2 & 4 are only open from 0700- 1500 hrs, they have tires but you change it, they can exchange cars for you. Area 3 and 51st St. are open 24 hrs, and will have tires, but once again you change it, they also down cars at all the garages. Christmas Eve they are closed for repairs , they will all have lots of work on Monday as the Shit Box cars will likely have problems over this long weekend.

Yes we are fully staffed. I see tons of police at headquarters doing secretarial work, even at the district level its truly a joke. 80k a year to do somebody you could pay half that amount? I see so much fucking waste it makes me ill but thats Ok. Nothing will change. Thats the fun part. Too many people hiding behind desks in this dept. Most if not all the work is done by beat and tac units. Nothing is going to change the course of this ship of fools!

If the city can save 8.3 million just by shutting down non-essential services for a day, just think how much they could save if they shut down once a week. Before long they would be rolling in money that they could put to good use or steal.

Might as well give it a try, no one does a fucking thing anyway.

funny, the aldermans office must be shutdown 365 days a year. he s never there and you get the run-a-round from 1 of his flunkies. the flunkie that sends you to the CAPS office in your district.
