The shooting occurred at about 7:40 p.m., authorities said. The wounded man was found several blocks away and transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, a spokesman said. The wounded man was described as being 31 years old.

Staff meeting called today to address "ornaments" left on the Christmas tree in the 011th District lobby. Said ornaments consisting of pictures of various 011th District alumni...one pseudo-"bodybuilder" with a Napoleon Complex...one Asian officer striking a pose complete with sheepish grin, and one male officer biting into a banana.
Seems Miss Penelope discovered these ornaments yesterday, and (rumor) promptly sparred the 2nd Watch Lt (J.A.) for their existence...even though these playful pictures have adorned the tree for about 3 weeks.
Has this broad completely lost her mind??? Reliable sources swear that there was absolutely NOTHING pornographic, sexual, demeaning etc about thee ornaments. I can't wait to hear what was said at this emergency staff meeting...

OT: PO injured in a squad car crash today in 019. PO is alright, knocked a little silly but walked out of the hospital after several hours getting checked out.
A good citizen reached into the smashed squad car, which was smoking, PO was dazed, got on the officer's radio and called in an emergency and after a try or two got the location right. Then she left before giving her name.
Whoever she was, I wish we had a chance to thank her, we need more like her around.
Of course, people were all around with cell phones but she yelled for assistance using the quickest means of communication she could find thinking the squad car might catch fire, very good quick thinking and action by the good citizen.

This is typical practice of the liberal left. Their "cause" will only be in effect when it doesn't involve what they want to do. They don't want anyone praying in schools or public forums, but it's ok for them when prayer is needed for a different political cause. Especially one that may make the news. Just like they don't want the death penalty for adult killers, but it's ok to kill the innocent unborn. The left is a walking, daily contradiction.
For those of you who may be interested; today I put in my retirement request for the 55-59 year old premium health care plan. I was number 461. There is going to be a mass exodus of officers from the department in 2010 starting April 1st. I've been told that Area Three Detectives is losing 17 detectives, Area Five is losing 8 detectives.
OT For all the employees at headquarters. You may now bring your children to work and have the lobby security staff babysit for them. Just think of how much you can save on child care. EB's dolly brings her child to sit in the lobby while she works on a special project. She has saved hundreds of dollars over the past two months alone.

If anyone has ever worked ( ok, taken up space ) down at headquarters they would know of the practice the handing out of time due slips just before a holiday. You had to take D.O.H. Was this Det. a Sgt or higher in rank? If not, why did the copper follow his orders? Was a district Sgt called to the scene? As far as I'm concerned, a detective is nothing but a blue shirt wearing civilian clothes. Unless that person holds a rank of Sgt or higher, tell em to STFU.
It seems as though EB has a publicist working for him. The article in the Trib was the EB Show. I am glad the Trib published photographic evidence for the civil suits: Excessive Force (gun in hand); and Unlawful Arrest (handcuffed me but did not arrest me). I wonder if he did a contact card for the goof in handcuffs, or an arrest report with RWOC.

110K? Dude, Chief's make 178K just look on the HR link on the Clear System. It's funny, if this isn't a rags to riches story I don't know what is. From EB's wife divorcing him and running off with another to loosing his car and house to forclosure to having to file for bankruptcy (because you over extended yourself)and being demoted to getting promoted and given a car to given an additional 100K a year to now vying for the Superintendent Job. Good for him!!

I work in 022 and although I did not hear about this incident, I'm not doubting its validity. My question though is who is this Detective to tell a P.O. that he is to write an ANOV? If in fact this did happen, I question the thought process of the P.O! A Detective has a P.O. write an ANOV? Last time I checked, Detectives had the authority to sign out an ANOV book and issue the citation. As a supervisor if I was called to the scene, I can guarantee you this would've NEVER happened.
When I came on this job, we actually looked out for each other.
When and why have we lost that thinking???

If this is true...you should be able to view it...there is a camera in that hallway. I dare for someone to pull it up and put it on utube. (and send a copy to jody so he can see how STABLE one of his brass is) A picture is worth a thousand words!!!!

That's the best time to approach the commander to tell him how he can make the district a better place.
Just a reminder not to talk to the media, they are not your friends. Kristyn Hartman of CBS last night did a mini expose on the number of police involved shootings over the past few days including the one in the deuce where the coppers shot at the car trying to run them over and how sonething wasn't right as the lawyer for the shithead stated that one of the shots was in the back. Rob Johnson nodded along as Kristyn slyly cocked her eyebrow during her spiel. Well Kristyn, if someone is FACING you with deadly force be it a car, gun, knife etc, I guess you won't want the police to shoot him in the back to eliminate the threat to you. Rather we will wait until he runs you over, shoots or stabs you and hopefully answers up to requests to turn around for a showdown at high noon. Don't talk to these vultures! Not even when you give a family a christmas gift. You are only selling their airtime.
why in the world would the CPD be involved with "reverends" and not directly with community leaders (local school councils, community members with a history of working well with others in the community etc..)?
The reverends commiserate with politicians, CPD, Daley etc to get city, state and fed grants for their "programs". What a conflict of interest.
There needs to be a seperation of church and state when it comes to working with communities.
Not all community members relate to these reverends and really resent that they "represent" communities, when in fact they represent their own interest.
For CPD to host meetings with "reverends" is ridiculous.
Why give these people any voice or recognition? Give voice and recognition to genuine community leaders.
Next time JJ, Fr. P or any other of the revs demand answers/action, someone have enough balls to ask them where their genuine community leaders are and why aren't they speaking out for themselves. For the real work of a genuine leader is to inspire and groom others to lead for themselves.

There are committees to review committees whose decisions are appealed to individuals and Legal Affairs, then back to the original committee who make decions based on the weather and time of day, only to have that decision overruled by the Superintendent, who sends it back to the committee who sit on it out of spite for another month.
Meanwhile, working coppers get it rammed and broken off while morale plummets into the earth in flames.
