Triple Homicide in 004

  • Three teenagers were killed in a shooting this afternoon on Chicago's Southeast Side, officials said. At least one assault rifle was used in the shooting, Police Supt. Jody Weis said.
  • The Cook County medical examiner's office said the victims were 13, 15 and 17, but it would not release the victims' names.
But don't worry!
  • Police said they likely have surveillance video of the shootings because two pod cameras are on the street at the scene. "They're in great positions," Calumet Area Cmdr. Eddie Welch said of the cameras.
Well thank goodness for that. It must be a real comfort to the families. Too bad Chicago couldn't afford an extra 1,200 or so street coppers whose actual physical presence might have deterred the shooting.

Anyone want to point out how we were down ten whole homicides in January now? Seven dead last weekend and this weekend starting out with a triple header. Some detective or boss can tell us the year-to-date totals but one commentator says we are up 43% for February over last year. J-Fed? J-Fed? Hellooooooooo???

These so called crime deterrent cameras operate in auto mode that means they move in a preset pattern. They pan left, right, up and down. The pattern repeats itself over again. Unless the shooter was moving with the camera most likely u got the sidewalk right under or a full zoom of a street drain. TONS OF TAXPAYERS DOLLARS WENT TO RICHIES RELATIVES AND CITY HAS USELESS POD CAMERAS !

commentary re: the aftermath of the 004th District shootings....1) at least one of the two closest POD cameras is uncontrollable, it works on its own, may or may not record internally...2)as an aside..."Welch: the cameras are in good position?".. what insanity is that? (I mean, did the camera postions prevent this event?; 3) at a recent boss meeting, it was said that, "we're up 40+ shootings since last year, and that's not good, since we're trying to get the Olympics"..well, I guess these new 3 kills ain't going to help much either, boss; 4) at the scene, tens of gold stars, with no lines of command (and more than a few that have no idea what the hell is going on), gold star folks giving orders, to the opposite of orders given by some other gold star bosses just a few minutes earlier....the "gold standard" (excuse the expression) of confusion and the lack of command and control...5) here's the best one, I thought (from a guy on the scene)....J-Fed (prior to his press conference) shows up, drives in slow, gets waved in from a block or two over....his vehicle keeps driving in, on 87th Street (a portion of which of was closed due to crime scene necessity)...his vehicle keeps going, into the crime scene tape, eventually stretching and snapping the tape...some of the cops/dicks see what's happening, but realize, hey, it's the Sup't.....so, after he destroys the original crime scene tape, the troops re-tape the scene....a leader?

There was also a shooting at 42nd and Rockwell last night about 11 PM; idiots yelling back and forth from cars, making gang signs, etc. until the shooting started. TV pic of a dark blue van with shot-out windows. Female shot in head, in critical condition at this time, possibly others wounded as well.

Hostage Barricade in 014 today.

A guy in Colorado killed his gf and fled to Chicago to kill his brother. Guy was seen by brother with gun and 3rd watch POs did their job and put out a good flash. Later that day two 3rd watch beat cars remember vehicle info from flash, stopped vehicle and offender fled with two guns in hand while dropping one. POs gave chase and guy barricaded himself for 4 hours at 2321 Kimball finally shooting himself in head. Good job by responding 014th dist officers, SWAT and HBT. No officer got hurt.

POD cameras are useless. If, and that's a big IF, the cameras were even focused to the actual location at the time of the shooting, the picture quality is awful. POD camera videos CANNOT be enhanced. You can't get a clearer image because if the image is blown up the pixels are pulled apart and the image becomes more distorted. POD cameras CANNOT read license plates because of the poor image quality. So unless the offenders climbed up the pole the POD camera is on after the shooting, and then looked directly into the lense, you got nothing.

Hey Leo.....

You got some splaining to do!

But no worries for you, you have your M-4 in your car, parked in front of your house, while we are out in the street with nothing to match what was used today.

You're just about as good as J-Fed, nothing but lies out of your mouth.

But, again, why worry. Your house is okay, it is in 22, and it is away from all the stuff we deal with. As long as you and your 'wife' are okay, then you will watch our backs, right? Isn't that how it goes??

We all know the brass lie cause they are just a merit form of politician and it sounds good to the media. I would really like to see the video because I doubt the cameras caught anything. On a side note..I like the people interviewed on the news saying all three were not involved in any gang or drug activity. Yeah right. I guess they were targeted because the may become president someday.

They have to lie to the media and say the cameras caught the shooter because they know the media will ask. There's no way they can say they don't have the film cause the media will hammer them as to why we spend so much money on the cameras if they don't work. We all know that chicago has crap equipment and nothing works! Everytime we ask for film there is always an excuse as to why the video didn't come out. The media should check out what Daley connection got the camera contracts.

Please enought of the B.S. The cameras, even if they do work, are either blurry, pointed at a brick wall or inable to provide any useful images. Why is it that only police officers realize these things are useless. At a cost of 30,000 each we could at least buy a new squad car for every camera in service.

Bring on the Olympics, someone needs to slap the mayor and wake him up from his dream. If this was on the northwest side and they were three students from Northside College Prep things would be different. The citizens of chicago need to call the mayors office and tell him to screw him and his olympics! It is only a matter of time before it hits your neighborhood, tell him you want your city safe and do not give a damn about the olympics. Let him know how you want him to spend the government stimulus money because he will use it however HE wants in areas that will help noone. I guess the Mobile strike Force was off because according to the Sup. they are the reason homicides were down in January, not the extreme cold. I want a reason from him why this happened, maybe lack of police, call the mayors office and tell them you want answers. I am sick and tired of this city and its mayor, if this were the private sector he would have been gone along time ago due to mismanagemet. Someone please post the phone number fro the olympic committee so we can all call and tell them how dangerous this city is and give them info. that has been kept from them.

Hey SCC, while on the subject of
homicide totals, police morale and manpower, it made we wonder how can we have as many homicides as N.Y. with only a third of the
residents. I looked at the NYPD website and found some interesting facts.

Applications:
The primary function of the Applicant Processing Division is to select the most qualified police officer candidates for a challenging career in the New York City Police Department. It is the responsibility of each applicant investigator to ensure that pertinent aspects of every candidate's history have been thoroughly reviewed. The command's major accomplishment is the processing of approximately 205,000candidates for the position of police officer within the last five years, of which 15,600 were hired.

Salary:
The academy starts out at $43,062 and steps to $69,005 base pay at 5 yrs this includes uniform allowance, holiday pay and night shift differential. The base pay before overtime only 6 months later (5.5yrs) is $90,829... WTF!!! There is no residential requirement and with pay like that I'll bet their morale is much better than ours. The NYPD is represented by the PBA (Patrolmen's Benevolent Association)

Additional Benefits:
10 Paid vacation days during first & second year
13 Paid vacation days during third, fourth & fifth year
27 Paid vacation days after 5 years of service
Unlimited sick leave with full pay
A choice of paid medical programs
Prescription, dental, and eyeglass coverage
Annuity fund
Deferred Compensation Plan, 401K and I.R.A.
Optional retirement at one half salary after 20 years of service
Annual $12,000 Variable Supplement Fund (upon retirement)
Annual banking of $12,000 Variable Supplement Fund after 20 years of service (if not retiring)
Excellent promotional opportunities
Educational opportunities
Additional benefits are available to military personnel.

I wonder how long the NYPD go without a contract. If the PBA would like to come to chicago to hold some informational meetings, I'm sure there will be alot of fop members interested in hearing what they have to say.

SCC
I am an old timer, just waiting out my 63rd birthday. I worked in Gangs South, the old Fillmore station, etc. I could go on, but many of you would not know what I am talking about. I have faced the fact that I am too old to chase bad guys, especially when they out gun us anyway, so please be safe. In the end, you need to go home to your families. This is a job, remember that!

What I am finding disturbing each and every day is how the Mayor and the Superintendent hark on centralizing the department for efficiency, when everyday we get more and more de-centralized. Each unit basically does its own thing. Even if you have an exempt meeting and have everyone that works in an area like Area 2, you have them spending more time trying to justify their position and brag about all they have done, and in the end, no one did anything to share information or work together to target anyone!

You may have the Commander of Gangs, the Commander of Gang Intelligence (this was the stupidest decision in the history of CPD - its so stupid, its comical but we have a budget crunch), Commander of the Detectives, the District Commanders, the Commander of TRU, the Commander of Narcotics (gangs and narcotics go right together, why are they separate), the Commander of the Mobile Strike Force (What the fuck?) and Mike Masters who is the Commander of Stupidity! By the way, what is his purpose at a homicide scene? He is not sworn, he does not head any unit that addresses crime, he has no gun, well he shouldn't legally at least, and he is in the way playing important and waiting to see what gold star will kiss his ass the most, then that is the guy we like, isn't that right Jfed!

Anyway, you make sure all of the above units are filled with officers and supervisors alike. Patrol and the Detective Division are left in shit, working like dogs with no resources, no cars, no working PDT's, no working radios, shit stations, and you take all the gang officers out of every single district. Then you tell the Commanders and the Watch Commanders/Lieutenants, that they better perform. Now back to removing the gang teams, they KNOW who all the key players are and they can get the community to talk. That is how you solve crime, not your stupid cameras that may catch a glimpse of the shooter or not. You put them in an entire area which makes them that less efficient because they are trying to establish relationships on a large scale and can do minimal follow-up because you HAVE to move around the Area.

Jfed, you need to look at the history of CPD and the tactics that work. This is not the FBI. This is street level policing. We live in these communities. You and Mike Masters live in the downtown area where you are not concerned with a drive-by. My grand kids are all over the city in the nicer neighborhoods, and guess what, they really don't exist anymore. Even the nicer neighborhoods are feeling the brunt of Chicago's violence.

For the sake of these kids that are dying everyday get out of our city and off of our department. Please take your useless FBI buddies with you.
Signed,
The Real Old Time Police

The major crime element is out south. That is statistically correct. Since I live out south, work out south, my kids go to school out south and most of my family and friends are in this area, why not start with moving help out south. Why not try actually giving all 5 Districts in Area 2 the true number of officers, supervisors and lieutenants that it needs to compliment a district. Not based on those old bullshit numbers from 1972, but real numbers that reflect the population and the crime. That's what you aldermen and ministers should be bitching about. Then give them enough cars so the district's personnel can make it to a call instead of putting foot posts all over the districts, well at least until we get rid of some of the key elements of crime. Then allow the Commander to actually run the district, not just listen to the Deputy Chief and Deputy Superintendent talk, then just follow orders like a good soldier!

Get us a real Deputy Chief, not one who's district has lead the city in ALL VIOLENT CRIME from the time he got there till the time he left. All he does now is criticize what all of the Commanders in Area 2 are not doing, talk about how he would have handled crime and allow his staff to dog all the Districts staff just to make a point, that she is his woman and they run it! Last I checked, you were a bitter, unintelligent troll then and you are an even older, bitter unintelligent troll now. The door is wide open. We listen to your conversations all day!

Last I checked Deputy Chief Alexander, one of the 3rd District's top ten had court right across from your office and got shot right in front of your office as he left. Who's fault was that? Did you let any of the units within this area know he had court? Did the gang unit know? Did gang intelligence know. Did TRU know? So not only are you stupid, you are dangerous. One of us could have been killed because you want everything to reflect it as having come from you! No sharing of information and no support if information is shared with you. You spend more time trying to dissect it and see how you can use it, then stand in front of all the bosses, sticking your little chest out and saying, I did it, it was my idea and my efforts! They can see you don't do shit, you don't know shit, you have been a clout baby since you came on the job, you ride coat tails and you have no clue on how to motivate anyone to want to work together, let alone come work next to you!

Letter to Weis,

Indifferent or not, it's just a matter of time that you are made the scape-goat for the rising crime statistics. The mayor will oust you as he has done all of the others. You can go quietly, or you can stand up & make a difference. Call it what it is, with four officers murdered, ten shot, hundreds shot at, & hundreds of civilian casua1ties; this is city is in the midst of Urban Warfare.

A war that is being fought by thousands of dedicated officers that feel that they have been abandoned. Why don't you do a ride-along everyday for two weeks & learn what carnage your officers are dealing with on a daily basis. Then report the truth back to the media. Tell them that this madness will not stop until zero tolerance is initiated & that parents need to be held responsible for the actions of their children. Then initiate some common sense protocols. You could start with getting your officers a fair contract & by standing by them when they you need to.

And when Daley finally dumps you, you'll have the support of the masses. You can turn around, run for mayor & knock him out of office.

There was a hint of hope when you took over, with all of your promises. Unfortunately they all turned out to be empty rhetoric. You were naive to the back-stabbing politics played in this town. It's time for you to step up or fade to oblivion.

Signed;
Ashamed of this City

J-Fed said on TV that we need stronger laws to prevent assault rifles on the street. Is he that clueless? State can pass numerous laws and still no one available to enforce the laws. There is a horrible shortage on officers on the street. Cameras that do not work. Quality of pictures and video very poor. No matter how he spins the story, CPD lacks the manpower to handle the volume of 911 calls let alone arrest gang bangers with guns. J-FED completely ignored that officers cannot match a teen with a automatic rifle. Moblie strike force and mobile gang teams cannot stop the homicide rate. They are great sound bites on TV. But help is on the way. 200 new hires this year. Then 200 promotions and 300 retirements. WTF!

Dear Superintendent Weis:

It is tragic that Chicago youths so often kill one another, as happened Friday afternoon on the southeast side. I wish to thank you and the CPD for handling these terrible situations, and trying to bring perpetrators to justice.

But I wish to communicate some serious disappointment I have with you and your coverage of this incident. It has to do with your general tendency to place blame on firearms, instead of on the perps, poor parental supervision, or the failure to enforce Chicago’s strict anti-gun, drug, and gang laws. Your approach serves only to distract from the real issues at hand, and is fundamentally misguided.

By placing the blame on firearms, you encourage the media to do so and distract the public from the source of these problems. You tend to emphasize the type of firearm, such as saying that an “assault rifle” was used, based on cartridge casings. Officer Weis, it makes you look foolish and dishonest when you make such claims. For one, you know that assault rifles are fully automatic and have been banned since the 1934 National Firearms Act. You understand that one cannot tell an assault rifle from a mere semiauto rifle based on spent casings. You can say “it was likely an AK or SKS-type firearm because casings were 7.62x39”, but you cannot claim it was an automatic rifle. Simply put, your dishonesty may fool some Chicagoans, but not those who know better. We see through the dishonesty for what it is worth … political advancement via a gun-control agenda.

I know that your boss directs you to advance his political agenda of gun control. Why? He would be re-elected even if he WAS truthful about the inefficacy of his gun control approach to crime. You know that Chicago’s handgun ban will soon be ruled unconstitutional, and soon after that, so will Chicago and Cook’s ban on semiauto firearms … the ones that the Supreme Court ruled were protected because they are common, and commonly owned for all manner of lawful uses. The very firearms you dishonesty call “assault rifles.”

You also know that the right to own and carry arms does NOT authorize anyone to commit offensive violence with them. As a cop, you know that guns don’t commit offensive violence unless in the hands of a criminal inclined to do so. Guns are common and criminals uncommon. Please, do your job. Your job is to apprehend criminals and submit them to the justice system. Your job is to lobby our government to keep dangerous criminals locked up. Your job is to uphold your oath toward protecting the constitution. Your job is NOT to promote the infringement of the rights of the people. Law-abiding gun owners are on the side of law, of order, and of our beloved police departments. By playing Daley’s political game of gun control, you distance yourselves from your own biggest fans … law abiding gun owners.

Please, reconsider your approach to these issues. Not only does your current approach make you and your Department look foolish and dishonest, but by denying good people their right to arms and self-defense, you exacerbate the problem of criminal violence while simultaneously stomping on the rights of law abiding people.

ANOTHER HOMICIDE

"There was also a shooting at 42nd and Rockwell last night about 11 PM; idiots yelling back and forth from cars, making gang signs, etc. until the shooting started. TV pic of a dark blue van with shot-out windows. Female shot in head, in critical condition at this time, possibly others wounded as well."

--2/21/2009 12:49:00 AM

Write this one up as DEAD. ABC-TV news just this moment reported that Rachael Beauchamp has died.

The initial TV reports, interviews with police on-scene, did point up the fact that there were exchanges of words and hand signs before the shooting started; the vehicle was apparently not just innocently "traveling," as the Sun-Times story below seems to imply.

Girl wounded in SW Side shooting dies

February 21, 2009

FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS

"A 16-year-old girl who was wounded in a shooting on the Southwest Side late Thursday has died.

"The girl, identified as Racheal Beauchamp, of the 3000 block of South Keeley Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, was in a vehicle traveling east on the 2500 block of West 42nd Street when somebody fired shots into the vehicle about 11:15 p.m., police said.

"Beauchamp was struck in the head by the gunfire. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner's office..."

Now that's a fucking lie. Yes, I was there. As much brass that was on the scene trying to interfere, the 4th District Commander and the Detective Division Commander allowed the Detectives and crime scene investigators to do their job. My only question is, what is the point of the entire chain of command being at a homicide scene? You can do absolutely nothing. You cannot be included in anything due to the possibility of compromising the crime scene or the case. You stand around watching and just waiting to interject or get your face in the media. Go the fuck home! We don't need you there fucking up our efforts. I was standing outside so long because my fucking heat didn't work well in my squad car. The suspect gang banger is the reason 3 were killed. Say it that way pud.

An out of control, killing, worthless, gangbanger, pulled a trigger on an inert object to inflict fatal damage on 3 victims.
More likely than not they were also gangbangers.

Say it right.

The way it is.

also:

assault rifle? fully automatic?

is this a fact?????

One can only make an assumption that a witness explained the length of the weapon or the cyclical sounds of repeated shots,
or evidence was recovered such as 20 or more expended cartridges in a limited area???

An assault rifle such as an AK has a distinct appearance, as do other assault weapons on the street today. Usually EYE witnesses (gangbangers) know the weapon, not always.

These weapons also have distinct sounds when fired in full auto where as a non EYE witness could
still be helpful by description.

J-Pud must be telling us all that he has an eye witness who described the weapon or at least have recovered a "large" quantity of expended casings from the path of the driveby.

in any case pud, stop bullshitting the public.

Guess what Jfed and Short shanks,
The District could not do a damn thing to prepare or prevent this shit. Due to economic times, people that have savage tendencies prevail. Those kids were shot right in front of 6 Cook County Sheriffs in Uniform. They don't give a fuck about the police, this is survival! They know they out gun us, so I am grateful that none of us were in the fucking way!

Commanders of 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and 15, especial 3,4 and 6 turn in your fucking PAR forms. Their is not shit you can do. They will never give you what you need to be effective, so stop wasting your time being stressed out, called down to meeting after meeting asked stupid question after stupid question, loosing sleep each and every night. Remember Risley, Fallin and a whole slew of others died from a stress related illness before they were 55. Not that I like the old bosses, but they did work. The Mayor said thank you by allowing this damn fool to kick them straight to the curve!

Just try telling the truth:
*We don't have enough good police
*We have NO incentives to give the police. Working just because they like the Commander or the Watch Commander is far over. The last 15 years of the newly appointed police are doing it because they could not find a job else where. They are educated and really believe they should be doing something else, so they settled for this bullshit to pay the bills. I am a lieutenant, so I know. I deal with this shit everyday.
*The department does not foster the creation of the "real police" anymore.
*We don't have resources, like cars, yep cars. Remember those?
*The police in the shit districts have friends that work in the good districts like 16, 1, 18 and 20. They hear about the shit they have and the great pilot things they get. Real motivator Jodi!
*Due to the economy, shit is even more fucked up
*People don't have jobs
*The poor are even more poor and more angry
*Ex offenders have no way of getting jobs, so they are on the street fucking it up for us
*All city workers have to watch the Mayor pay this incompetent damn fool $300,000.00 a year plus and they are praying not to loose their jobs after 20 years and they only get paid $34,000.00 a year.

Talk about that at your next press conference!

On the HBT incident in 014, can any P.O. who was on scene justify this fact. That the offender was about to give up after the P.O.'s put a stop on his vehicle. Offender even dropped his gun to the ground. But some boss came running up on scene screaming (maybe 1460?) and spooked the guy. Causing the offender to retreive his gun and run inside the house?

He didn't try to give up, and he had two guns on him. The guy was spooked the moment he was in traffic in front of a squad car.

The guy killed himself, saving taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars and the victim's family the agony of a trial.

Oh, and all you "Real Police" naysayers who weren't on scene should take another swig and pass out.

Make out a yearly report that shows exactly what units like Gang Intelligence have accomplished. Have they proved their worth? If not, back they go to answer calls. How about this Search Warrant Team at the areas? Is that lawsuit heaven or what? It is a team that only does search warrants. WTF? Second, if you have any TRR or other nonsense she backs you 100%. Lastly, she allows time due generously. Hey shit lips, inert means inoperable. That means it doesn't work. Inanimate is the word you were looking for. If a weapon is rendered 'inert' it is incapable of firing, regardles, ie. a toy or fake gun. Inanimate means it is not alive and cannot make decisions on its own, therefore cannot kill on its own, ie, a rock, a bat or a gun.

Also, to the coppers in 014; job well done. This coward made the right decision, as neither an inert or ianimated object, to kill himself. He was out numbered, out gunned and out of options. He could have chosen to shoot it out with the officers, which could have gone terribly bad, instead he chose to end his pathetic existance.

i agree... the door should have been booted for various reasons. you had perfect legal justification to do so with hot pursuit. second, how do you know that it was even his house and some poor family was about to be assasinated by this guy who was very dangerous. also, how do you know that this guy didnt have more firepower inside was was just getting ready to go upstairs and start picking anyone off with a high powered rifle. the officers did an ok job, but the door should have been kicked...they kind of dropped the ball when it came to that. if sh*t hit the fan in the house and it became a shoot out, then call hbt... there was no effort to take this guy into cusotody... remember kids, a closed door doesnt mean chase over... its just a fun extra piece of destruction you get to add to your day...hopefully these guys from 014 learned that they got lucky by not blowin the door in and waiting for hbt.... those actions put the hbt guys in danger and everyone on scene in danger... never let the bad guy fortify himself if he just ran inside...he could have had anything prepared in there with all the time he was given.

A lot of that is due to the FACT that the SUBURBS are worst! The homicide NUMBERS there are climbing!

The right thing was done, fine job by all, you already knew he was armed, fools rush in, why kick the door when you already know he is armed and has the advantage on you, it was done perfectly.

Tombstome courage gets you killed, brains definitely prevailed here.

It's funny how people refer to an HBT team and a SWAT team.
HBT is the job type; such as a Hostage situation or a Barricaded gunman.
SWAT is the team that responds to a HBT job.
Please make a note of this.

The POD Cameras in vicinity of the Homicides WERE in Great Positions, so don't blame E-3. It ain't his fault if they don't work clearly, or are broken.

America is in the grips of a Nationwide Homicide Epidemic, eminating from the major-big Cities, and spreading out from there. Releasing Convicted Felons from Prison, like the recent releases in California, due to Financial difficulties caused by overspending politicians, will exasserbate matters, as other States are bound to follow Suit. Soon, if not already, Law Enforcement can concevibly be overrun. Civilian Readers especially, take note. If you don't want to Support your Police, and Law Enforcement here, and Nationwide, the economic problems you have now will soon become the LEAST of your problems, if these Savages cannot be effectively controlled.

The way I see it....
These officers failed to apprehend an armed violent offender. They allowed this offender to take a strong hold and keep police at bay for hours. Then the police carelessly left this crazed man alone to kill himself.

What a waste of manpower and resources.
The REAL police would have chased this nother fucker right into the house; booting the door with a size 12 warrant if necessary.
BUT... they would have gotten in trouble with the man-that-has-our back.

i agree... the door should have been booted for various reasons. you had perfect legal justification to do so with hot pursuit. second, how do you know that it was even his house and some poor family was about to be assasinated by this guy who was very dangerous. also, how do you know that this guy didnt have more firepower inside was was just getting ready to go upstairs and start picking anyone off with a high powered rifle. the officers did an ok job, but the door should have been kicked...they kind of dropped the ball when it came to that. if sh*t hit the fan in the house and it became a shoot out, then call hbt... there was no effort to take this guy into cusotody... remember kids, a closed door doesnt mean chase over... its just a fun extra piece of destruction you get to add to your day...hopefully these guys from 014 learned that they got lucky by not blowin the door in and waiting for hbt.... those actions put the hbt guys in danger and everyone on scene in danger... never let the bad guy fortify himself if he just ran inside...he could have had anything prepared in there with all the time he was given.

-----------------------------------

Ok your stupid comment shows that you were not there.. and are playing monday night quaterback.

Listen here Rex Grossman...
These officers did a very fine job. They couldn't shoot because responding officers were in the crossfire, it was during rush hour, on a major ave. with people all over the street and waiting at bus stops, and they already knew the guy was suicidal. The officers had previous knowledge that no one was in the residence. Two other officers responded there the day before, told the brother to leave, contacted the FBI and they put the information out to be read at roll call, which probably save the life of any officer stopping this guy.

The guy barricaded himself in the vesitbule, and the door was a distorted glass front. He had two guns in hand and had an actual death wish list in his pocket with his gf's name, who he already murdered, crossed off. One officer was working with a PPO and any experienced officer knows that can sometimes make a situation even more risky. But luckily the PPO did very well, no one was hurt. This was an all around team effort by everyone who responded including the outside units.

From the Shitcago Libune Letters To The Editor:

Daley’s failing gun laws
February 23, 2009
This is in regards to Mayor Richard Daley's remark in "Burris questioned in Blagojevich probe," (Chicagoland, Feb. 22), when he was asked about Sen. Roland Burris and he replied: "Three people got killed [last night]. Do you think the people who killed them care who is their U.S. senator?"

No, Mayor Daley, they do not care. They also do not care that so-called assault weapons are banned both in Chicago and Cook County, actual assault weapons have been severely restricted since 1934. They also do not care that it was illegal for them to own any type of firearm in Illinois without a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, or that it is illegal to discharge a weapon within the city limits. They also do not care that they most likely are too young to own a firearm by federal statutes. They also do not care that that is illegal to commit murder and the many other laws they surely broke.

This leads me to ask you a question Mayor Daley: If they do not care about breaking the multiple laws that they did, why do you think the solution is to pass yet another law--a ban on so-called assault weapons that they will also ignore?

Mayor, it's time to admit that your long-time push for tougher and tougher gun laws is simply a failure. It's way past time that you have the political courage to attack the true causes of violent crime in Chicago: gangs, drugs, poverty and the dismal failure of the Chicago school system, just to name a few.

Please make a note of the fact that our on call "SWAT" team used to be called HBT. The guy who called them that probably had more than 2 years on the job, junior.

WHAT THE F..K!!! 016 has this PO that develops videos that helps us make arrests. Today, I ask the guy to do a video for me, and he tells me he can't, he got dumped to a car. This is the same guy that did the video that helped find that 3 yr old girl from CVS. He helps solve crimes and gets dumped "what the fuck".
***
The commander in 016did not dump video guy, the inspectors were in the district last week with copies of A&A sheets making sure that everyone was where they belong. His position is not an official position therefore by orders from downtown he was ordered back into a car.

This is to the copper who is calling out our dispatchers;

God forbid when you call an EMERGENCY and overmodulate into the radio the dispatcher wants to know where you are.

Yeah hand job, they should check the GPS instead of being the "lifeline" they are.

Make fun of them because they mis-pronounce words, give em crap when they ask "What are you chasing him for," but do not call them out for wanting your location so they can send help.

Man o man, what have we become?

Signed: Long enough to know, but young enough to still be stupid.

==
Yo, the comment was not to "dis" dispatchers or make fun of them. We all know the dispatch job is just as demanding as being out in the street. The comment was to determine if and how the GPS is working for both officer and dispatcher.

Great job to the officers in the 4th District for containing the scene and gathering witnesses. We could not have made this much progress in this little time if it were not for your asssitance. Thanks to our Commander Eddie Welch for giving us the freedom and latitude to do our job. Thanks to Commander Carter for running interference for us on the scene, that took a lot of guts. Now this is an example of good police work.

I was raised on the 8700 Block of South Escanaba Ave. Hard working men of Easteran European stock went to work at South Works and took care of their homes and families. It's obvious to anyone who really wants to accept the truth what has happened here. The crimiinal element that is so much a part of the African American culture has ruined yet another fine neighborhood.

Yes I said it "Ruined by African Americans." To those of you who can't handle the truth SCREW YOU. It's played out everyday in every city across this once great country. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM - FACE UP TO IT!!!!!
