Illinois Carry?

  • A state House panel is recommending that the General Assembly give Illinois residents the right to carry concealed weapons.

The two proposals are expected to garner opposition from Chicago-area lawmakers, who have expressed concern about increased gun violence.

The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling last summer overturning a handgun ban in Washington D.C., and an endorsement of concealed carry by the Illinois Sheriffs' Association has given a boost to supporters of a concealed weapon law.

House Bill 245, sponsored by Marion Democratic Rep. John Bradley, would allow the Illinois State Police to issue the permits. It was endorsed Wednesday on an 11-1 vote, with Democratic state Rep. Julie Hamos of Evanston the lone opponent.

It's a shift no matter how you slice it. Hopefully, the down-staters lead the charge and force the issue this session.

It wasn't too long ago we once stood tall, and would not let one of our brothers fall. When Terry, and Phil were our our Supt's we looked out for each other, like we should! We don't have the luxury of going to sit in a desk job and know what our day has in store for us. We are faced with the worst that this city has to offer.(OUTRAGEOUS MURDER RATE, NUMEROUS RAPINGS IN BUCKTOWN AND OTHER "SAFE" NEIGHBORHOODS, SHOOTINGS EVERYDAY, HIGHSCHOOL KIDS MURDERED EVERY WEEKEND, THOUSANDS OF CAR BREAK-INS, GAFFITI EVERYWHERE, AND ON TOP OF THAT EVERYDAY STRESSORS. People wonder why Chicago's Finest are at their breaking point. Well take a look at what we are up against. It honestly breaks our hearts when the public, who we miss family dinners for, family birthdays, holiday vacations, and sacrifice our lives for, can't stand by our side. This job is not easy, and never has been. Dealing with the worst society has to offer can take it's toll on any man after a certain point. Here is a quote by a man who many respected. He is one of our own. John Thomas. "WHEN YOU BEGIN TO DOUBT THE NOBILITY OF YOU MISSION OR THE SANCTITY OF YOUR PROFESSION BECAUSE YOUR HEART IS HEAVY, OR YOU FEEL ANGER, DISILLUSIONMENT, DISENFRACHISEMENT, BETRYAED OR CONFUSED - STOP AND LISTEN TO THE VOICES RISING FROM THOSE SACRED STARS THAT ARE ENSHRINED AT 35TH STREET; THE VOICES THAT RISE UP FROM THE FOLDED CITY FLAGS THAT ARE ENCASED AND AT REST IN HOMES THROUGHOUT THIS CITY; LISTEN TO THE VOICES RISING FROM A FIELD IN PENNSYLVANIA, FROM A WALL AT THE PENTAGON, AND FROM THE SPOT OF EARTH THE WORLD HAS COME TO KNOW AS GROUND ZERO. BECAUSE IF YOU LISTEN, YOU WILL HEAR THOSE SOULS TELL YOU "THANK YOU" FOR WHAT YOU DO AS THE POLICE, HEAR THEM CHEERING YOU ON. LET THEM CARRY YOU THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT MOMENT, ALLOW THEM TO NOURISH YOU AND ENCOURAGE YOU - AND DOUBT NO MORE - FOR YOU ARE WARRIORS AND CHAMPIONS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE AND TO THOSE MOST VULNERABLE NOW. YOU ARE ADMIRED AND RESPECTED, FOR YOU ARE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO. GOD BLESS AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!

-Future Supt.

Remember that we are the glue that keeps this city together. Let the politicians bribe each other and scam the taxpayers out of their money. Our job is to watch each others backs, make it home to the ones we love, and to protect Chicago's citizens. They deserve the best that we have to offer. Remember, our own Brothers in Blue have lost blood on Chicago's streets. Don't forget why we are here, and always stick together, because we are all that we have!!!!!!

It's about time !!!!

Many good citizens have been armed for a long time.

They did so at the risk of arrest & prosecution, but felt they had a legit reason to be fearful of being caught without their weapon. Many good pistol packers told me that " I'd rather you catch me with my gun than some thug catch me without it:"

I came on the job in the mid 60's. UUW was a misdemeanor offense. It was not un-common to recover 20+ weapons per police period, per Tact Unit .Times have shifted towards being 5+ times worse today. Decent folks deserve the option of legally arming themselves or not. I hope this Illinois Carry can overcome the resistance of shortshanks & his minions.

I retired from the job after 33 yrs of service. I totally support Concealed Carry in Illinois/Chicago.

Our citizens deserve the right to self defense.

Synopsis As Introduced

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.

Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person.

It will probably apply to you, too, once you retire. It won't apply to professional lawbreakers, however.

FYI - It looks like Shore Galleries is about out of ammo. Sales have been "brisk" since the new administration came in.

Hell, J-Fed has NEVER been the police, so how would he know what it's like dealing with a "piss bum on a bus" for example!

Maybe honest citizens will have a fighting chance, because I have de-policed!

hey SCC you should post this on your front page..
Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009

Ammunition Accountability Legislation

Remember how Obama said that he wasn’t going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer in a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011 (Including hand loaded ammo). They will also charge a 5 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Send to your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!!

To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to: AmmunitionAccountability.org

The most likely outcome is for the alternate version of the bill to pass, giving the local Sheriff final say on whether a permit is issued; this is the same model as California has today, where LA County only issues to the rich and famous....

I don't see Home Rule coming into play in that scenario, and I don't see Chicago actually putting up a legal challenge to any new state legislation.

Post-heller, the last thing Daley wants to see is a challenge to Chicago's draconian gun laws make it further up the chain than his pet Judges on the Cook County Circuit court.

Daley may piss and moan, but he's not going to do anything substantive that could force the city to re-open handgun registration.

The only reason this or any other state would even CONSIDER giving out CC permits is to jam the permit fees up our ass. Indiana had these and they cost 10 bucks at the time I had one and I don't recall whether I ever had to renew it or not before I left.

You can rest assured though, it's due to the possible CASH INFLOW that this will pass and you can bet your ass they will charge a hefty fee and you'll be paying it EVERY YEAR to keep it.

Yeah, and any one of those excuses means your capable of leading others and making supervisory decisions?

The only thing your "criteria" points out is that your merit pick is:

1. A court whore
2. A relatively FNG who doesn't know any better
3. A moron who gets himself into trouble and gets shot
4. A guy who can't solve day to day problems and focuses on the one thing he can do right, 1 bagger rock arrests = ( your felony pinch )

You sir need an education, maybe then you'll realize the better policeman is the one who does it all, not just the blockhead court whores or morons who get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and get themselves hurt.

If the General Assembly gives Illinois residents the right to carry concealed weapons, expect the following response from Lil' Richie and the Fifty Thieves:

1] Using taxpayer money against our will, he will challenge the law through the court system and tie it up in legal motions for years;

2] While throwing our tax money into the state legal battle, The Midget will have the Aldersheep pass a flurry of local Home Rule ordinances banning local residents from the eventual state law;

3] The Daley Crime Family will then institute ordinances impounding weapons from any Illinois resident with a legitimate state CCW permit caught in Chicago;

4] Penalties for violation the City gun laws will be in the form of $10,000 fines paid directly to the Chicago 2016 fund. To appeal your conviction, a non-refundable court processing fee of $8,000 will be required and if your appeal is unsuccessful, the $10,000 fine is still payable. Note: No appeal will be successful !

"They're in great positions," Area 2 Commander Eddie Welsh said of the cameras."

You must keep in mind that Home Rule does not exempt the city or the Mayor from all state laws.

Home rule was designed to allow Chicago to operate it's municipal government without state involvmet.

Home rule is not designed for the city of chicago to circumvent state laws.

For example, a Chicago Police Officer is not required to have a valid FOID card to carry a firearm while on duty as a Chicago Police Officer. But you better have it for the ride home.

Daley can't pass a city law under home rule that would make it ilegal for citizens of chicago to have a FOID card to prevent them from owning a firearm. Or carry a fiream if permitted by the state. Home rule does not apply!!!

Home rule only applies to the day to day operations of the City government and it's agents.

For example Residency, Daley can not tell a citizen they have to live in the city if they work in the City.

Home rule does not apply to any new C & C law in Illinois.

Now don't get me wrong! I am not saying Daley won't try!!!

One time about 3am, 25 years ago this suburbanite citizen troller saw a car park in our alley, lights off. Two got out and entered an open garage. ( by chance owned by a police sgt. in our town) They are burglars and burglary is a felony. I called 911 and got my rifle. (They were 75' away, I never miss at 75' with my rifle because I practice with my rifle, alot) Before the cops arrived, the two got back in the car. Then they saw the cops come from each side down the alley, with their lights off. I still was on with dispatch and told them to tell the cops to watch out, they have been seen and the two ducked down under the dash. The warning got to the cops and the two gave up, took off in cuffs and the car was towed. I will tell you if either of them came out with guns, they would have been lit up-one shot one kill x2. The passenger door when opened was already in my front sight. I never miss at 75', ever. A firearm in the possession of a private citizen is the worse nightmare for violent criminals. They do not make it to the benefits of the criminal justice system and all that due process, bail, plea bargining, numerous court calls for years and witness intimidation crap. Rather, they go to eternity with the look of surprise on their face. That is social justice in the Du Page suburb where I live.

Well it looks like the way there going to try and undermine the US Constitution is by just going around it and beating the hell out of us with bullshit legislation. These dog-ass politicians are going to try and have their way and don’t give a damn about the people they serve….

This is a cheap shot at it, just remember this asshole who presented the bill on this.

SCC, you may want to take a look at this… it could sneak through and bit every one of us in the ass who carries off duty, let alone the retired who carry or just the citizen who has a weapon to protect their home and family.

We need to keep our freedoms!!

We can't stand by twiddling our thumbs when our neighborhoods are all becoming gang infested.
(and if you think you're safe living in the city in a " good " neighborhood, it's just a matter of time)

to OH 19 ranger,

Look forward to meeting you there. Is this meet before or after we do that BBQ we been planning for the LAST FIVE YEARS?

sort of on topic:
I personally enjoy getting on a bus load of M-1's that reek of weed all carrying on and making noise, pick my seat and the left side of my coat justs HAPPENS to open up and OMG there is a Shiny Holstered S/W 4006. Amazing how well behaved and quiet these goofs suddenly get. I LOVE IT. and not a word is spoken.

019 Ranger can we make it "stonehenge" instead?

Excellent post, except for the mention of Terry, Phil and John Thomas, the Larry, Curly and Moe of the 3 One-Way Stooges. They were no fucking good, but even so, they were each a sight better than absolutely no fucking good J-FED.

Well this would mean we would never have a sgt from any north side district!!!
(i'm just fine with that by the way)

Right, because people in northside districts never get in shootings or dangerous situations, do you southside beatoffs actually believe the nonsense you spew? the southside is a shithole that will never recover, it's over down there, it needs a bomb and a bulldozer, from Roosevelt to city limits south, from the lake to city west, with the exception of Garfield Ridge, which can still be salvaged, the rest is a wasteland of shit and the sleaziest women i've ever met.......

he looked like ROLAND BURRIS in front of the media...turns out he's the security guard for a dry cleaners that gives breaks to the popo for the entire distict....me and partner argue...me telling him to either throw gun away or give it back to the man who was NOT licensed, just an unemployable old man who guarded a dry cleaners from burglars...no he wants arrest for gun and cb#s old guy soon as we hit the station...shit hits fan before daybreak...me..I get called and reamed out by w/c AND commander and transfered...partner (i did not snitch ) stays on watch..is now a sgt or above....watch who u work with...

To be even considered to be a sgt to the above.

a minimum of one.

1. involved in a shooting
2. Shot in the line of duty.
3. 800 arrests as first or second officer
4. 200 felony arrest as first officer.

Swell! I've got 1429 one rock arrests (box one, baby!), 804 DOPW and 938 SUB arrests, plus 2 Felony DUI's and 3 Felony Retail Theft arrests where I was the offender. If the "involved in a shooting" can be off-duty, does it still count if I was drunk?

Plus, never to have worked inside in during your first five years.

I worked inside out PLENTY of times during my first five years, but only tried to show up to work drunk or high when the Captain was RDO...

I've got 15+ years of CPD service (three bars, show my ass some RESPECT) in 010, 011, and call-back, only 168 total suspension days, one of my felon friends died on the sofa in my house six years ago AND my neighbor was a Lt. in 008 (before he got fired for fornicating on the public way with a man-whore he picked up at 26/Keeler)...would any of that help me make your south/west side merit list?

1. A court whore
2. A relatively FNG who doesn't know any better
3. A moron who gets himself into trouble and gets shot
4. A guy who can't solve day to day problems and focuses on the one thing he can do right, 1 bagger rock arrests = ( your felony pinch )

Are you fucking kidding me ? Getting yourself into trouble and getting shot ? It's called being the police. If you are not out in the alleys and side streets where people walk to avoid the police, then you are not the police. The police that get shot or shot at on duty (whether they live or succumb to their wounds) are HEROES ! They are usually doing something that most people and even some police are afraid to do. We go into bad situations because that is our job. If you want to be a police officer and sit behind a desk before you have 10-12 years on the street, you are not the police, you are an armed secretary, nothing more. Also, you don't have to be in a fast district to be the police. In the slower districts, there are other things to do. Walk through alleys and follow a suspected burglar and see if you can get lucky (easier if you are in plain clothes). Stop a carload of undesirables and see what you get, they are always passing through, even in the slower districts. Maybe a gun or some drugs or even a warrant will pop up. So, it doesn't matter where you work in as much as THAT you work. So, to the person that faults the guy who is a court whore...do you have a part-time job where you make $50+ per hour to do nothing but sit there and talk to a judge ? Didn't think so. Many officers find a certain niche' and go with it. If it's one rock, so be it. Every guy/ gal with a rock is like a $100 bill for the officer. I don't chase the one baggers, but, I don't begrudge anyone who is driven by the desire to better his/ her financial situation or bank hours in court. By the way, chasing one baggers isn't the safest thing to either, these are not lawyers and accountants buying drugs, they are crack heads and hypes, who are usually dirtier than most of us have EVER been in a lifetime. So, sit behind your desk and keep to yourself. The working police will keep the streets a bit safer for you. This scenario that I am speaking does not generate $$$ for the city, it costs the city $$$ to house these mutts and officer o.t. is expensive...so tell me, who wins when we act like the police ? We do ! NO TICKETS, just a few arrests and voila, hurts the city even more. Don't work harder, work smarter.

Yes. I usually take the down time to go over my upcoming court testimony for all my Aggressive Panhandling pinches. Are your saying there are OTHER things to do too?

Walk through alleys and follow a suspected burglar and see if you can get lucky (easier if you are in plain clothes).

I like reading your postings...it's like getting "lucky" without having to get anyone drunk or take my depends off. FYI: If I do get lucky, I have to leave the socks on because my feet smell BAD. Grandma says it's because I eat too much cheese. What do you think?
